Japicans - What's your mix?
My grandsons were visiting their cousins in FLA a few years ago. They were sitting around talking. They didn't realize their mothers, my DD, neice, etc. were listening. The cousins asked what their mix was. The older grandson responded, "We're half Mexican, 1/4 Japanese and the rest is a bunch of white people. We call ourselves Japicans".
How funny is that? I'm 1/2 German and the rest is Irish and Scottish. |
I'm half Danish and the other half has been in the US so long no one knows. My mother swears there is a Native American princess somewhere in the background.
My poor daughter is 1/4 Danish, 1/4 Norwegian (her dad is 1/2 Norwegian, some German and some who knows, like me) and the rest ??? When she was in 3rd grade they were supposed to dress in their heritage costume. With her BLONDE hair and blue eyes (she says she's terminally white) I wondered if she could get away with a Native American costume per my mother's claim! |
Biologically, I'm Dutch, English, French, German, Irish, and Scottish,
but culturally (I was adopted) I am polish, german, and italian. |
For simplicity sake, I am mexican american. It is my cultural background being raised by my half mexican half spanish/native american mother also my mexican stepfather. I grew up in a mostly mexican neighborhood and went to schools with a large mexican population and was surrounded by my mexican extended family :)
Biologically, it is a mix of spanish, mexican, native american on my mother's side and irish, english, french, native american on my father's side. I am proud of my mexican heritage (although my spanish sucks) and that is what I will say if you ask me :) Edit - Oh yeah, forgot to add, I'm from California, that is important :) |
I have a friend who is half chinese and half jewish (from israel), she always joke that she is Jewanese.
|
I am Texan. ;) That's enough ethnicity for me. When it comes to ancestors, I am mostly German (my father's father was the son of immigrants/an immigrant perhaps himself and married a half Irish/half Blackfoot woman). I also have the typical Scots/Irish/English pastiche through my mother's family, but they are mostly German as well.
|
I'm 3/4 German and 1/4 British Canadian. My daughter is half Italian, which the Italian is half Sicilian. She's mad because she got her father's Sicilian curly/nappy hair and my inability to get a tan. I blame the British Canadian genes for lack of pigment. :dunno:
I had to laugh when I worked with a Native American woman at Kodak that would refer to herself as a Mohawk and added in a few more tribes, making her gene pool seem very exotic and cool...then she'd refer to me as white man. And I'd say, "Excuse me, but that's German British Canadian Woman, thanks..." I mean, if she got to be Onieda Mohawk this that and the other, why do I get to have such a bland title? :dunno: |
Mom is English/German
Dad is English/Basque |
mostly polish with a pinch of chezaslavokian (darn...can't even spelly my heritage...oh yeah...that's the polish part of me LMAO).
|
5th generation white trash. Does that count as heritage?
Uhm... welsh-ish? I have no clue. |
hm... dad is mostly "black" Swedish - meaning dark hair/ eyes. My mom was adopted so we're not entirely sure but we know her mom was Irish. Wow. That's totally boring. However since we're not sure who my mother's father is.. I guess there is a mystery in there.
|
I am mostly German and Irish, with a little Native American thrown in the mix.
Really, I am just a southern girl. |
I'm German, Welsh and Scottish.
I'm also American, but I now have dual-nationality by holding a Dutch as well as American passport. |
Just 100% Irish for me, born and raised...as were my parents and their parents and those before them.
|
I'm like Finn - 100% Irish although my ancestors moved here in 1851 and 1898! Somehow they managed to "marry Irish" ever since. I guess I'm an IriCan. A Canrish?
|
Cherokee, German, Irish on Dad's side Irish and English on Mom's. My daughter's have inherited my nearly black eyes but not my skin tone. They are both very fair, like their fathers (one is American with Scotch/Irish background and my current hubby who is 100% English gent).
|
I am 1/4 Scottish, 1/4 German, (on my dad's side) and I have Irish/English/Welsh on my mother's side.
My husband's bloodline is pretty pure-he is 1/2 German (pure blooded German his mother's side) and 1/2 Native American. (His father was pure Oglala Sioux.) So, our kids are actually considered Native American in the little box you check on health/school questionaires. |
Oh that little box is good Aphil :) A lot of my cousins actually have native american paperwork (I don't) and they claim native american status.
My DH is Irish, that is all he is. It amazes me to have a single ancestry. |
Most of the people I know who have pure ancestry are recent immigrants. :) My friend Esther (for whom my youngest is named) is 100% Mexican & then went & married a German. I'd say Germex, but that makes poor Emily sound like an exterminator. :lol3:
|
Germex...
:lol3: |

Mom is 100% french, Dad is scotch/irish/english/german mutt
dh is something like 95% german, 5% Irish, but he has an Irish last name and the black hair/blue eyes /pale skin so everyone thinks he is irish. |
I'm German,Polish, Russian, Czech,Greek, and Irish.
I find ancestries fascinating, however, it tends to sound like how they name 'new' dog breeds, like labridoodles, other strange mixes, even including 'papers' to certify what we are. |
My mom is 100% Filipino (nice tan skin w/dark hair)
Dad is Chamorro, the light one (which pulls a lot of white spanish heritage on him, born w/reddish brown hair and light skin) So I say I'm half Filipino, half Chamorro. People here think I'm a mix of Chinese because of my Asian eyes... that's what I hear anyway, I don't think I look like your typical Asian though. My son has Filipino, Chamorro, Portuguese, French, English and just a tiny smidgen of native American or so my MIL used to say. He's basically a chop suey mix as we say here in Hawaii, and he looks like a WHITE BOY. My husband and I call him our filipochamorro boy  |
My optometrist I worked with was Fillipino-Canadian. He had a daughter a year or so ago... she has that beautiful dark skin and hair. His wife is very fair, and thier new son looks more like her. Maria, the daughter is going to have boys lining up at her door.
My point: Fillipino people, generallhy speaking, have beautiful features. |
I'm mostly German with a bit of Scottish and possibly Luthanian mixed in.
|
My mom's side is Welsh, and my dad's side German. That makes me a Welsh-Germ!
|
Three/four days late in posting (but that's not going to stop me!)
My mum is Irish, Scottish and Swedish whereas my dad is a mix of Chinese, Malay and Indian-Portuguese but I'm considered 'eurasian' :dizzy: If only it were that easy to come up with a name like 'Germex'...more originality  |
