Broken toe nail
I know that this isn’t weight related and I don’t normally post questions like this but I need someone else’s opinion. I am not asking for medical advice just seeking someone else opinion.
I kicked a chair a few hours ago and cracked my toe nail. It is cracked down to the center and off to one side. It is still attached on the edge of the toenail. I sprayed it with “bactine” and coved with a Band-Aid. I changed the Band-Aids and sprayed it with “bactine” again. It has stopped bleeding but I’m not sure what to do. Can I wait to go to the doctor? I’m in the middle of finals and this may sound terrible however but I really don’t have time to go to a doctor until the end of the week. Thanks for the help! |
If there is "ANY" chance of infection get your butt to the doctor...otherwise you just have to wait for it to grow and heal itself...many screws put into my nails from screwguns at work or nails from hammers! OUCH!

Ehhhhh I don't know if it is doctor worthy. I have a pinky toe that grows in split naturally, and anytime I stub it on something the outer half cracks off..I just make sure to keep antibiotic cream and bandaids handy while I wait for the piece to fall off and grow back. There is not much the doctor can do but tell you to keep it sterile.
I stuck a steak knife through my finger one night and went to the ER..The doc said save my money and just keep it sterile and put ointment on it..Love the country docs LOL. Make sure it has time to breath every now and then. Fresh air is great to help the healing process. Now if it starts turning purple or pussing..that may be a problem :p |
Keep using antibiotic spray or ointment, and keep it covered up with the band-aid. Go to the dr. first thing Monday--should be OK.

I've ripped my toenail off or partially off a couple of times (once by accidentally kicking my DD's knee--she didn't feel anything and my nail came off!). There really isn't much that can be done except wait...and wait. You're doing right by keeping it clean and dry. Watch for any sign of infection (redness, more swelling or increased local heat) and go to the doctor if it shows signs of infection.

ouch! hate when that happens. Usually you can just put triple antibiotic ointment on it. But if it gets swollen or has pus than definately go to dr. It may grow back a bit funny but may not.

Unless it gets infected, I wouldn't even think it would be doctor worthy. I've split and cracked mine many times, even had an aunt who lost one completely. No doctor was ever required and they grew back fine.
