kidney beans

I am looking for a recipe for kidney beans. It sounds weird, it is this vegetable that resembles the green beans, only thinner, right? I want such a recipe that it's still crunchy and tastey.
Please help me, no one replied to my wishes about low fat cheesecake so i am getting discouraged. :moo:

kidney beans don't resemble green beans....kidney beans are a reddish bean, sold no longer in pods, that are usually purchased canned. You may have some french green beans (haricot vert) or some chinese long beans.

Provide some add'l detail about what you have, and we'll try to provide a recipe.

Have you searched the recipe section of the site? Also, there was recently this thread about a cheesecake -

Howdy,
Can't help you with the kidney beans but here's a recipe for a low-fat cheesecake that is delicious. I've made it several times and love it! The nutritional info is also included:

kidney beans dont look like green beans. They are hard beans red in color and not in pods. You can buy them hard or boiled in cans.

I make an Indian dish called rajmah masala with kidney beans and its one of my fav dishes to eat alone or with steamed white rice. heres the recipe:

1 reg can of kidney beans
1 tomato sliced
1 onion sliced
1/4 cup tomato paste/puree
1 tsp olive oil
1 tsp cumin seeds (optional)
1 tsp red chili powder/cayenne pepper
salt to taste, 1/2 lemon squeezed

microwave the kidney beans for 1 minute. Keep aside.
In a non-stick pan, add 1 tsp olive oil and cumin seeds. when hot, add sliced onion and stir fry the onion on medium-high flame for 2 minutes.

Then add the tomato slices and stir fry for another minute. add cayenne pepper and tomato puree. bring to boil. add the beans. add salt to taste and simmer for 2-3 minutes covered. Then squeeze lemon and serve hot.

You can also freeze this in an airtight container. serve with hot white rice/bread.

I know what you mean, and yes they are called kidney beans (or at least they are in the UK) ... they are the 'fresh' green beans with the 'fresh' kidney beans still inside them ... not the dried or canned variety (not sure whether this is a British thing but they are very popular there! ... and they are obviously available in Turkey too otherwise our poster wouldn't be asking for a recipe for them:) Often have them with our Sunday roast when we're back home in the UK:) Basically we tend to just slice them up into say, 2 inch pieces and then just lightly boil or steam until they are as crisp or tender as you like them. You can use them in any recipes that you would use ordinary green beans in I would think. I do have a tasty recipe for stir fried beans, but I need to find it first ... will post later if you are interested.

Ok, we may have a bit of confusion here across the continents ... I've just done a search on 'Fresh Kidney Beans', and the first recipe that I found was actually for 'Turkish Kidney Beans' ... used fresh but out of their pods. Then I tried to find a picture of the green beans that I have always known as fresh kidney beans .... I believe that they are actually 'Runner Beans':o (probably known as 'Green Beans' or 'String Beans' in the US?) My mother, grandmother, great-grandmother etc, have a lot to answer for!! ... As I'm sure a lot of others do in the UK, because everyone I know calls them 'kidney beans'!!

Sorry for the confusion, but I guess it's something similar to the ... courgette or zucchini? ... aubergine or egg plant? ... peppers or capsicum? ... rocket or arugula?:o

Anyway, if you do a search for recipes for runner beans/green beans whatever, you will find many.:D
