a really dumb question
I have a really really dumb question. But I have to claim ignorance on this one, so please forgive me. I see a lot of posts where you guys are eating "hummus" ? someone please tell me what this is? I've not seen anything like this in the grocery store, and the only thing I know of that remotely sounds like this stuff, is the stuff my mom puts in her garden outside as fertilizer. :) Ok, you may stop laughing now.

chick peas, middle eastern food - absolutely delicious...especiallly if you're able to travel there and have the authentic type.

Alright! :) Chick peas I know, i could eat those. But I think I'd have a hard time getting something down, called "hummus", I would be thinking "cow manuer (sp?)". :dizzy:
|
Also, hummus is creamed or blenderized chickpeas seasoned with things like tahini (sesame seed paste) ,lemon juice, garlic, etc. I had to ask what it was once too.

Mellissa-interesting Psalms verse. I always think of that as my words coming from my mouth but I guess we can think of it as too much food coming in too!

Definitely try the hummus - it's SO good! It's great to dip veggies in (i used to liike dipping pita bread in it, but since I can easily go through a whole bag of pita bread in one sitting, I don't think that's so wise anymore!), and I like it on sandwhiches/wraps, too. Hope you like it!

Melissa-Sorry to hear you have R. arthritis. Does it severely curtail your ability to exercize? BTW, your crochet hadiwork is marvelous!
|
Rice crackers are a great substitute for the pita.

Roasted garlic blended into hummus is a beautiful thing :D

thanks for checking out my projects! :) Crochet keeps me sane, and keeps the fork out of my mouth. and thankfully, my hands are the one thing that don't really hurt too much. but i know that could change, and it makes me VERY sad to know that someday, i may not be able to crochet anymore. If I can't hold a hook, you might as well shoot me...lol |
I think I'm gonna try hummus again. I recall trying it when I was very young and at that time I pretty much hated anything that wasnt' pizza, fries, burgers, or sugary.:D

If you love to crochet check around the local churches,
my mother and i am in a crochet club, we crochet lap blankets, and they are prayed over and donated to the elderly, mostly in nursing homes. You definitely have talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless You!!!!!!!!!1 |
I've thought about charity crochet many times. but I usually have so many projects on the hook, a lot of them $ projects, I just never seem to be able to carve out time. I seriously considered Project Linus, but even then, I just couldn't find time fit it in. At the time, I was up to my eye-balls in poncho and shawl orders. Martha Stewart stepped off a plane, and J-Lo wore one in Monster in Law, and my business went through the roof :)

I didn't see a reply on where to find hummus (if you don't make it homemade) so here's my reply. You can find it in most grocery stores typically by the deli (fancy cheese area). Think gourmet and look around in those sections. It's not in the shelf sections or the closed door refridgerated sections. It is a refrigerated item though. In a super walmart I tend to see it beside the cheese that comes in little wedges (8 to a wheel..I forget the name now..grrr).
Check the labels for nutrition info because some are higher in calories than others. I tend to measure mine out then use it as dipping sauce. |
Yes, it's often by the Laughing Cow cheese. You can also get really good stuff at a middle-eastern deli.
I use it as a sandwich spread and with vegetables, as well as with pita wedges or baked corn chips. You can usually find different flavors, too ... garlic, roasted red peppers, etc. Yum. |
Our Super Wal-mart has it boxed, you just add water. I have a box here at work so I can mix up the amounts that I need. It can be found on the ethnic aisle (blue box, mfg name: Sadaf).
Just a convenient way to have in small amounts. Fresh is better; I just can never find Tahini (sesame seed paste). |
