instead of spaghetti
I tried something new tonight. I made my meaty tomato sauce and then served it over steamed broccoli and cauliflower. It was excellent. Didn't miss the pasta at all. The sauce is my favorite part.

that sounds so good! i LOVE the meat sauce from spaghetti as well - and i LOVE steamed cauliflower - i've never even thought about doing that. sounds delicious!!

Sorry, but I gotta do an ewwwwwwwwwwwwww here, lol.
I love broccoli and cauliflower, but when it comes to spaghetti, I want the real thing ;) |
I'm a fan of spaghetti sauce over spaghetti squash. :D ;)
|
try spaghetti squash too its a favorite of mine! I think its only 75 cal per cup.

LOL the idea of spaghetti sauce over broccoli and cauliflower doesn't do anything for me either. :)
However, littlegg, a friend served it for dinner one night with the spaghetti squash and it was great! I guess I need to get one! That would make a nice change for dinner. And Classico has a great low calorie sauce. Misti |
I eat that all the time, minus the cauliflower ;) I also use finely sliced and lightly sauteed cabbage as fake pasta. What I really want is the taste of the meat sauce and the sprinkle of the good parmesan or romano cheese- not all the calorie laden pasta.

What a wonderful idea!!! My family had spaghetti tonight (I went on a picnic by myself instead!) But I could definately still enjoy that yummy yummy sauce!

I rarely eat pasta anymore... until recently. I finally found "spaghetti" made from soybeans in a health food store. One serving is over 40% of your daily fiber and over 40% of your daily protein; less calories than regular pasta. It cost about a million bucks for a small box at the HF store, so I went to Chinatown and found the same thing (different brand, different language, but same nutritional value) for less than half the price. I cook it a little longer than the package says. It's pretty bland, which of course is what you want. And it's so good for you! I put it in soup now too, and use it for stir-fries.

Sounds interesting.
But I don't eat meat, so it would just be tomato sauce for me. I would like to try it, but... But I need the noodles. Even if they're nasty whole wheat ones. :( |
I started serving my red sauce over a tiny amount of pasta and a healthy serving of sliced green/red/yellow peppers. Yum!
Great ideas here! I'm going to look for those soy noodles. Also, I always only use pasta that has 2 grams of fiber per 15 grams of carb. It's always whole wheat, but at least it's not quite as refined. |
You could just cut the pasta serving in half and bulk up on the veggies. That's what I do.

I bought a spaghetti squash last night. Now I just have to figure out how to cook it!
