Here are the numbers from the USDA food database :
  • extra small (less than 6") = 81
  • small (6 - 6 7/8") = 101
  • medium (7 - 7 7/8") = 118
  • large (8 - 8 7/8") = 136
  • extra-large (9" or longer) = 152

I just checked Fitday and it lists a medium banana as 108 calories, so it's slightly less than the USDA. Hmmm ... but close enough, I guess!

Yeah, I was suprised by this too when I read it a few months ago. I used to have one a day, sometimes more. Now I just have one every so often. Everything in moderation. It's not the 100 calories on the bananan that'll do me in, it's the 500 in peanut butter I'd wind up adding!!
