Advice for German Restaurant Please!

  • DH and I are going with some friends to a German Restaurant tonight. I have had some German food, but have never been to a specialty restaurant. Is there low fat German food? What would be my best choices?

    Thanks!

  • Well I guess this is too late! I didn't see the post until just now. There are some foods you can eat low fat, but that would really depend on what ingredients they used in the given restaurant. Saurkraut is always a safe bet, but the sausages they use on them could be high or low fat, you'd just need to ask. Saurbraten is usually smart. It is marinated, almost a pickled lean meat that is cooked, but it can also be cooked in an unhealthy manner. It isn't meant to be greasy if cooked traditionally. If you are in an authentic German restaurant you will probably get lower fat choices than an American German restaurant. For some reason the American restaurants find a way to add sugar and fried flour to most everything.
