Default yummy non-dairy alternative Cheese

by Lisanatti, The Original Almond

There are other flavors but I tried Mozzarella & it was so good I almost ate the whole 8 oz package in one sitting. The package says it shreds & melts so I'll be trying it on a pizza soon. It's made in Oregon.

From the label: almond base (Cascade Mountain filtered water, crushed organic almonds), casein, expeller-pressed canola oil, natural flavorings, organic brown rice flour, sodium & calcium phosphates, sea salt, citrates, carrageenan

1 oz serving:
50 cal
Fat, 1 g (monounsaturated) no other fats
Sodium 190mg
Total carb 3g
Fiber 1 g
Sugar 0
Protein 7g
Calcium 25% rda of 2000cal diet

This has a little bit of casein so it is not vegan. For casein-intolerant folks like me, it's still a viable alternative to dairy cheese.

Nah. I'd just quit the cheese.

Mozzarella and feta come in at about 75 calories an ounce anyway.

Default cashew cheese

If you live in Los Angeles or New York, Nary Dairy makes a yummy cashew cheese. The taste is amazing!

Yeah, I know best to skip it but sometimes gotta scratch the itch, lol. At least with alternative cheese, I don't have a skin/hair rash for a week after.

Checked out Nary Dairy...sounds fantastic--hope they come to SF area soon.

btw, a wonderful tofu--even if you don't like tofu!--is Hodo Soy. It's made in Oakland, Calif, local & non GMO soy. Beyond SF bay area, it's found its way to San Diego, Jimbo's Natural Foods. Since this thread is about alternative cheese, I'll add that I crumble it up in my salads and pretend it's Feta cheese
