Delicata squash

I bought a Delicata squash this weekend. I have never tried this type of squash. I did some reading online but would like some input from here. Can you compare the flavor to any other type of squash? What is your favorite way to prepare it? TIA

It's very similar to butternut squash and can often be substituted in recipes :)

Thank you for the reply, Munchy. When I looked up the calories in Delicata squash, it was similar to other squash that I eat. I thought butternut squash was a little higher in calories compared to other squash varieties. :?:

Butternut is about 60 calories per cup cubed. I think the others (including delicata) are closer to 40 calories. Butternut squash is just a teeny bit more starchy, but the flavor is similar.

How do you think it would taste roasted with cumin? (from my other thread)

The super cool thing about Delicata, aside from one being a pretty good portion size, is that the skin is edible. Just cut into half-moons, season and bake/roast. I do use a bit of oil.

Thank you for your reply. What is your favorite way to season it? I plan on cooking it tomorrow.

Sounds so yummy.

I roasted the squash tonight and it was absolutely delish. I only used olive oil, salt, and pepper. There was some caramelization and it brought out the sweetness of the squash. I highly recommend delicata squash.

I bought me another one to cook for tomorrow! :carrot:
