Ok, I went to the store the other day and compared peanut butter to almond butter and most of the nutrition was the same, so could somone please explain why I hear so much about almond butter? Thank you and GOd Bless.

Peanuts, for some reason, are often full of molds and other toxins. And they can also cause allergies.

Almonds are a cleaner food. I have read that by soaking whole unblanched almonds (ones with skins on them) for a few hours, an actual life force is activated in them making them even more super healthy to eat than the ones you don't soak.

Peanut butter often has some sugar, salt, preservatives etc. Almond butter is usually just almonds.

Annika - have you checked out sproutpeople? There's a lot of info on sprouting and soaking for added nutrients.

I was wondering about why almond vs. peanut butter myself. My guess would be allergies, I like to make my own peanut butter, then I control the additives, can use agave syrup instead of sugar.

I like fresh ground nutbutters (especially if I can use the automatic grinder myself). Unlike many jarred nutbutters, the ingredient(s) are only the roasted nuts (peanuts, cashews or almond) and sometimes salt.

Cashew butter is my favorite, but I think almond butter tastes better than even fresg ground peanut butter.

Kelijpa,

Thanks for the recommendation! What a jam packed informational website! I am going to visit there often!

Furthering the is conversation here, sproutpeople point out that:

- peanuts are technically a legume and not a nut

- as for soaking almonds, more detail about why this is a good hing to do: 'Once a seed has Soaked up its fill of water - it is alive. The Soak turns a dormant seed into a living seed. That is the biggest nutritional jump in the entire sprouting process. Once Soaked a seed is without enzyme inhibitors - a very good thing indeed - so they'll digest themselves and nourish you without requiring any enzymes from your body.'

All the best,
Annik

I used to feed my husband almond butter fairly frequently until he told me he didn't care for it as much as peanut butter so we just switched back to peanut butter. We have no allergies though and all it is is peanuts and a little salt.

My problem with peanut butter - PORTION CONTROL! There's something about the texture and sweet/salty balance of Jif that I have a terrible time controlling myself around. I swear I could eat half of a big jar with a spoon in a sitting.

For that reason, I've temporarily switched to almonds-and-salt-only almond butter. I love it too, but I'm not as tempted to finish the jar.
