Eating dried figs . .

Random question but I have discovered that I LOVE dried figs (totally had no idea until I ate one at BF's house a few days ago)

Anyway, I want to start eating a portion of them everyday and was wondering if anyone knew any 'negatives' about that. I'm always really cautious when I add something as constant to my diet.

I know they are dehydrated, and could add a bit of water, but I stay hydrated and I'm not ubber sensitive to things like that as a general rule.

I also am not attempting no-sugar or anything, so that side of it should be okay.

They just aren't a food I'm that familiar with. Any hidden 'omg don't do that to yourself!' issues with them that I don't see?

I also love figs! I've never found that dried fruits of any kind have had a negative impact on my health or weight. As long as your body reacts well to them and they fit in your calorie plan then you should be fine. Not everyone does well with dried fruits, but it depends on your body and diet plan. There's no need to rehydrate them, it won't impact the nutritional value. Dried figs contain fiber, calcium, and other nutrients. And they are yummy, if you can limit yourself :)

Here's a video that describes a study that showed eating figs did not cause weight issues for the participants http://nutritionfacts.org/video/do-f...e-weight-gain/

That's very cool. :)

I had a friend that said "omg they have so many calories". I kinda think that is a crazy train of thought when I can have 6 dried figs for 120 calories and eat them as sweet/filling treats over the course of an hour or so.

A 250 cal candy bar, or 200 calories of chips would not be nearly as filling for me.

I don't understand the idea of limiting the 'good' calories in order to be able to eat more of the bad.

I also love dried figs!

I make a spinach salad with sliced dried figs, sunflower seeds, walnuts, crumbled goat cheese and a balsamic reduction. Yum!

Just make sure they don't have preservatives.

I eat dried fruits fairly often. Just make sure that they don't have added sugar or any weird ingredients added to them. Personally, I love dried dates.

I love figs! I tend to add them to my smoothies for a bit of a sweetener and they have good fiber too! ;) Unsweetened dates are another fave of mine.

Thnknthin1- That sounds SO good! I will have to make that sometime. Although I'm not sure how to do the balsamic reduction?

Chopped, they go well in oatmeal or pancakes.
