Naturally Sweet Teas?

Anyone know of any good naturally sweet teas? I drink all different types of hot tea. I am trying to cut sugar from my tea, so I need something naturally sweet. I am a fan of Bigelow's Red Raspberry Herbal Tea as well as mint tea. I recently found a pomegranate white tea at Trader Joe's that is pretty sweet as well.

Any suggestions for teas to try? Preferably nothing with cinnamon because I'm mildly allergic.

Radiojane 01-22-2013 01:40 PM

I find any rooibos teas to have a certain sweetness to them. Tetley now has green tea with acai and blueberry that has a nice natural sweet taste too.

berryblondeboys 01-22-2013 01:48 PM

I adore Good Earth's caffeine free Original tea. It's a spicey chai type tea. I put a dash of milk in it and YUM!

NorthernChick13 01-22-2013 02:01 PM

David's Tea has a wide variety of naturally sugared tea! Some teas have a TEENSY bit of sugar (like the Birthday Cake tea which is to die for!) but still only 15 calories! They ship over Canada and the US- try it out :D

Psychic 01-22-2013 02:07 PM

Radiojane - I don't think I've tried rooibos tea. I'll need to pick some up. I have had Tetley's flavored green teas. I like the mango one.

berryblondeboys - I do like chai, but some of them have too much cinnamon in them and make my throat scratchy due to my allergy.

NorthernChick13 - I'll definitely look for that. I think I may have seen it at the Market District Giant Eagle.

berryblondeboys 01-22-2013 02:09 PM

Psychic - this is really cinnamon-y which is why I love it, so you might want to stay away.

Hmmm... another favorite is Sweet Dreams tea - it's a combo with peppermint and chamomile tea. Again, I like it with a splash of milk.

Psychic 01-22-2013 02:18 PM

berryblondeboys - I used to grow and dry my own chamomile. I enjoy chamomile tea, but store bought just doesn't taste like the fresh stuff. It is great for upset stomachs. I don't think I've ever tried it with mint though. Might be worth a shot. ;)

Yup that is a sweetie- it has a full bodied mouth feel and just makes one happy - I need to get some soon- used to enjoy it at the restaurant.

I have been drinking a... dark chocolate hazelnut decaf tea from Stash, lately. It is a bit sweet, nice with a bit of skim milk hot, and is actually VERY nice cold the next day over ice without any added sweetener.

betsy2013 01-23-2013 10:07 AM

I'm not a big tea drinker, but for iced tea, I always use Constant Comments Orange Pekoe. It has a wonderful flavor, and even Southerners who were raised on sweet tea (that would be heavily sugared tea) love it without any sweetener added.

Psychic 01-23-2013 11:47 AM

mnemosyne - I think I'm going to look for that. What store(s) have you seen it at?

betsy2013 - That is another tea I do drink on occasion. Some of them have cinnamon in them though.

I find most fruit flavored herbal teas are pretty sweet. I like some of the Celestial Seasonings ones Black Cherry Berry and True Blueberry are really good.

Skellig19 01-24-2013 03:52 PM

My suggestion would be start looking into drinking loose leaf tea as there will often be a more full-bodied flavour to it. I second DavidsTea as I go there about once a week to get new teas. My current favourite is Red Velvet Cake tea. It's fabulous! Their herbal teas are wonderful as well.

Most herbal tea will often be slightly sweeter than a black tea b/c it won't have the tannin-bitterness often associated with black teas. Oolong is a fermented tea and can have a lovely musty sweetness to it. The flavour does take some getting used to though. :)

Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice has a sweet, vanilla taste to it without any sweeteners

Hibiscus Tea

Hello,

I like hibiscus teas, they have a mellow floral and subtle sweetness to them. Red Zinger by Celestial Seasonings is really good. You can also find plain hibiscus leaves in most spice stores. I have just discovered coconut nectar as a sweetener. See if you can find it in your grocery store/health food store, or ask if they can order it. It's mild tasting but adds a good amount of sweetness. Stevia is so bitter to me.

Also, be careful of the fruit flavored teas. Check for sugar. They use fruit juices to sweeten things sometimes. :coffee2:

luckymommy 01-26-2013 09:59 AM

I love hibiscus tea.....grew up with it so it brings back fond memories. The one I get has a bit of stevia in there so it's perfectly sweetened and doesn't have any bad aftertaste as some stevia does.

ddovii 01-26-2013 10:15 AM

All these teas sound delicious.

I've had some teas that seemed "sweet" even thought there was no sweetener (artificial or otherwise).

I think "Yogi Caramel Bedtime" was one.

And from "India Organics" a couple I loved: "Sweet Rose" and "Licorice Spice".
Most teas with licorice taste kind of sweet to me in general.

Both of these brands are probably available at Whole Foods.

luckystreak 01-27-2013 08:25 PM

Do you guys have a davids tea? Kind of pricey but cuts my cravings fast.. I love Cocomint Dream and Strawberry Rhubart Parfait <-- so delicious.
I also like the Green & Fruity one.

Also, any peach tea is amazing. The smell alone just does it for me, nevermind the taste haha.

im a HUGE tea collector, those are my favorites.

Hey luckymommy,

What brand is the hibiscus tea you are drinking? I have always had trouble with stevia, but I am open to new options.;)

Psychic 01-28-2013 10:58 AM

I'm not big on floral-tasting teas. I'll drink home-grown chamomile, but that's about it. I'm definitely going to start looking for a few of these. If I wasn't so frugal, I'd probably spend half my paycheck at Teavania.

Love this one and if you like coconut, they have a Thai coconut tea that I absoulutely love on a cold evening, naturally decaf!

Bellamack 01-28-2013 11:07 AM

I also get Teas from Teavana, you can blend your own if you like, but I like Slender strawberry, oolongs are known to aid in weight loss. Although I can't say I've seen any aid in weight loss, I do love the flavor! A new one from Teavana is Salted Caramel & I am loving it!

krampus 01-28-2013 12:44 PM

I came here to recommend Good Earth Original Sweet & Spicy and Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice.

Looks like they've already been mentioned!

I was going to suggest this tea as well. I always put some sort of sweetener in regular tea, but I don't have to with this tea at all. It is so delicious!

Riddy 01-28-2013 09:22 PM

I find herb teas to be sweeter in general than "real" tea.

Yogi teas all seem to have a bit of sweetness to them. My favorites are ginger, lemon ginger, raspberry ginger, and calming.

Celestial Seasonings zinger flavors are sweet and tart. I like raspberry and orange best. They have some stevia sweetened flavors now, too.

Harney & sons hot cinnamon is sweet, although I see OP doesn't do cinnamon. They also have a vanilla black tea that's a bit sweet.

Yum! I love teas!

Radiojane 04-04-2013 04:04 PM

Stash has one out called Mojito mint. It's a green tea and it is phenomenal. I've gone through a box in three days!

That's me with the Republic of Tea! I love their rooibos. I'm drinking their peppermit chocolate one right now that sort of tastes like a peppermint patty. Their Get Gorgeous has a lovely hibiscus/berry flavor that's great iced. My current favorite from them is a cranberry & blood orange black tea and the Surrender to Sleep chamomile & lavender that I'll sip at night. If I run out of that one, their orange blossom white tea is a favorite bedtime runner-up.

Revolution Tea has a tropical green tea blend that has a hint of pineapple that's good hot or cold and Gypsy Tea (I think that's the brand name) has a rose flavored black tea that if it were available at my local grocery store, I think I would have bought it by the case! They also have a fantastic coconut chai.

If you like chai, SereniTEA on Etsy has a hand-blended one I'll drink with only a splash of milk. It's so fragrant that I always get a whiff of it when I open up the cabinet I store my teas in.

I discovered Lipton Red Tea with Harvest Strawberry and Passionfruit. Its really awesome, especially with some honey. Its sweet by itself as well though. I've also taken a liking to Slim Balance from Lifestyle Awareness.

Mandolina 05-19-2013 11:08 AM

mmm tea . . . .
cinamon and clove is very tasty
cinnamon ginger tea
If your up for an adventure you can try to find some luohanguo or arhat fruit. They look like brown balls and the seeds can be steeped for sweetness. Its considered to be a secret to longevity here in China.
You can also do some red date and goji berry teas, or any sugar free 8 treasure teas.

soon2beskinnyCarma 05-25-2013 06:50 AM

I really like harney and son's teas. Their soho is chocolate and coconut. Chocolate mint is yummy. I love their cinnamon spice but that won't work 4 u. :(
I am like you and love sugar and constantly trying to cut the total i have with my fitness pal. My sister recommended XYLA which is a sugar alcohol so doesn't process the same way as sugar and adds sweetness. It's made from hardwoods and i get it at the health food store. I also tried a coconut sugar from there which is delish in the coconut tea mentioned above :)

Going to have to look for that one. Sounds great for a summer tea:)
