My friend has a masticating, not exactly sure how that works, but I've seen a breville on youtube, someone making juice, it looked like it grinds the stuff up and then squeezes the juice out, kind of a 2 step. that's probably how more juice is extracted. She says it's a bugger to clean, and ends up on the shelf but talking about juicing got her to bring it back to the counter top, lol. I have a ninja, too, it's a high speed blender, it's pretty cool, too and easy to clean, that's definitely a plus for me, I like to be able to make something fresh for breakfast and be able to clean the thing before I go to work. I was making juice and taking it in my to go coffee mug, now i'm on the smoothie kick for breakfast. anyway to get in more fruits and veggies is good for me. best of luck with whatever you try! :sunny: |
I know you're interested in juicing, but I saw the discussion on green smoothies and just wanted to tell you what I'm doing. I'm having a green smoothie for breakfast every morning along with a protein source--usually an egg or a scoop of protein powder in the smoothie. My regular blender wasn't working so I bought a Vitamix from Costco. It was expensive, but worth it. Within 30 seconds, it turbo blends a full blender full of greens and fruit. I'm just using water for the liquid. All I really taste is the fruit and I'm getting serious produce in the morning. As long as I have the protein source, I'm satisfied until lunch.

i just did another 3 day juice fast, this time I had my green smoothie for breakfast, a fruitier juice for lunch and a greener juice for dinner, day 3 I had fish and mashed cauliflower for dinner, tomorrow I'm going to smoothie for bkfst, juice for lunch and make some kind of chicken and veggies for dinner.
I think increasing the freggies (as kaplods calls 'em) is the secret to my success lately, I am able to eat enough stuff, I make a monster salad for lunch with a bunch of chopped veggies when I'm not on the juice fast (which is def. more often than being on the fast...) so this is probably a really dumb question Moving Forward, but are you talking like a hard boiled egg? I may try that, but can't imagine being like Rocky with the raw egg...:goodvibes thanks :sunny: |
I am starting a juice fast, end of day one today. I have been struggling with my weight for years now. I feel heavy and sick. I am deteriorating physically and cannot bear to go on fat.
My main concern is the fact that I struggle with migraines. It is the end of the first day and I already have a good headache. Any suggestions on how to ward off the headaches and juice fast? This is the one thing that has prevented me from losing weight more than anything else. |
If it's from caffeine withdrawal you can either drink a half a cup of black coffee or struggle through, it took me 3 days to get past the foggy head, headache of caffeine withdrawal. The last time I did a 3 day juice fast I drank one cup of coffee in the a.m. it didn't affect the weight loss.
Make sure you're getting a balance of nutrients, not just fruits, if you check out the reboot website there might be some pointers there and recipes for healthy juices, also they have some fasts where you basically eat veggies and fruits, there are great salad and soup recipes, you don't have to just drink your veggies if it's causing you problems. Best of luck, hope it goes well for you! :sunny: |
Thanks Sunny. I'm extremely determined to make a change this time. I'm usually a pretty drastic decision maker, all or nothing!
I have struggled so much with the headaches and weight loss, so much so that I just gave up for a while. I went to my specialist Dr. this morning and got Botox injections. I also looked up alot of info on juicing today. I went to whole foods this evening and got more drink choices also, like vegan vegetable broth (I can heat up and eat with a spoon) and coconut milk and herbal tea. So, I guess this could be considered a liquid diet. I am going to shoot for 30 days if nothing awful occurs. My head is peaceful tonight, so Yaaaa! My new motto is "I love being thin more than I love fattening food!" |
I don't juice fast but I do drink vegetable juice at least 4-5 days a week. I ran the math of buying high quality ingredients and a juicer and it's pretty pricey. I opted to get my juice fresh from Whole Foods juice bar. A 16 ounce serving is $5. But a child serving which is 8 ounces only costs $2. I go with my 3 year old when we leave the gym a few nights a week. That way I don't have to take time away from my kids and there is no mess to clean up.

DH and I are doing a 3 day juice fast, think time I have a cup of coffee in the morning, none of the headaches like the first time.
Betty, another reason it would be so great to have a WholeFoods nearbby! Sounds like a great way to get the veggie juice in, better than my low sodium V8! :goodvibes |
I have a vitamix blender its awesome...i blend up spinach and other veggies and fruits and make drinks. the only thing it doesnt do that well is carrot juice so ill buy a jug of it from the store and just add that. much easier
