Breakfast Substitution Suggestions?

I LOVE grits and I'm wondering if eating a small portion (1 cup) of grits 3 times a week is will hinder my weight loss. Do you have any suggestions on what I can substitute instead of eating grits?

I LOVE a little bit of grape jelly on my wheat toast and I'm wondering if eating a tablespoon of jelly on my wheat toast 3 times a week will hinder my weight loss. Do you have any suggestions on what I can substitute instead of having 1 tablespoon of grape jelly?

I would love to try egg burritos but everything that I have tried tastes YUCK! Any tortilla ideas? I think I have tried them ALL.:(

What sort of plan are you following? I just count calories so it would be no problem for me to work in something I really wanted.

ETA Good luck on the tortilla

Really no plan. When I was counting calories (1500 calories) I was not losing any weight. When I stopped concentrating on how many calories I was eating and writing EVERYTHING down and just concentrated on portion control and healthy eating, is when I started losing weight immediately. So right now, I"m just concentrating on portion control but I am not stressed out over keeping records. I know that sounds crazy but it's true. I don't understand how I had so much difficulty when I was counting calories and eating healthy. :(

Everyone is different. :)

I don't even eat grits so I guess I will let someone else chime in.

Ok. I appreciate your input.

Have you tried sugar free grap jelly?

As for tortillas, that's hard to recommend as the ones I use are locally made. Try finding low-carb, high fiber, whole wheat tortillas.

Not sure why grits would be bad for you if you are eating normal portions...unless you are topping them with lots of butter, syrup, cheese, etc.

No, I haven't tried sugar free grape jelly but I will definitely try that. Thanks for the suggestion.

To my surprise, I found a great corn tortilla last night at WalMart. I'm so happy.

As far as the grits, I don't top it with anything. It's just plain grits with the correct portion size.

I use the smuckers splenda jelly.. its really good and only like, 10 cals a tsp or something.. lol.

And as far as grits, I get the (gasp!) instant quaker oats brand packets (near the instant oatmeal packets) and use those when I want them. I love grits, but I need them portion controlled. :D

I'd say you are good to go on grits then if you are watching your portions....since you said you aren't counting carbs :)

I think I saw a shrimp and grits recipe on here using cauliflower ... if you like savory grits (like with cheese?) that might work? I'm not sure, I've had grits like once in my life!

I love me some grits -- LOVE THEM. Eat them often and no problems with slowing anything down.

I also love jelly and jams, but I make sure to measure them out when I have them on toast because the sugar all adds up fast. I don't like artificial products, so I go with the healthiest, all natural ones I can find. They are delicious, and a little goes a long way and makes life happy! :)
