Ice Cream!

So, I've been eating a cup of reduced fat, no sugar added ice cream every night. It is delicious, and this small treat helps me stay on play all day, every day. My problem with this is that the sugar alcohols give me horrrrrible gas and bloating. Unfortunately, I don't want to switch over to ice cream with regular sugar, as the added carbohydrate content slows my weight loss.

So, basically, does anyone know of an ice cream that has either a low level of sugar alcohols (the one I eat right now has 6g per half cup), or uses real sugar, but less of it. I'm hoping theres some sort of less-sugar-added frozen yogurt out there. I'd even be willing to try non-dairy ice cream substitutes.

Thanks!

Banana ice cream! Freeze a banana and then blend it in a blender.

Frozen bananas = yum!

:p Frozen bananas do sound good!

Also have you tried Skinny Cow ice cream?

Frozen bananas and skinny cow are both too carbtastic for my purposes, albeit lower in calories :( Calories are less of a concern than carbs are for me.

Have you tried this? http://www.myarcticzero.com/

I haven't...saw it in the store the other day and was intrigued. If anyone's tried it, let me know!

I have! I do enjoy it, honestly, but it is not really a thing that soothes the ice cream "craving". More like frozen protein shake.

Good to know! Do you think it would make a good smoothie base?

Blend a cup of unsweetened almond milk, a bunch of ice, any fruit or flavor (check your store's baking or spice isle), a small pinch of xanathan gum and any sugar free sweetener (syrup, stevia, splenda).

If you have/want to get a Vitamix blender, those are AMAZING. I also have a regular $50 Ninja that works just fine.

Comes out highly addicting. Very little calories (a cup Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk = 35 calories, ice and flavors = no calories, sweetener = no calories :) )

Add chocolate sauce!! :D

It is quite icy by nature, so I don't know how substantial of a smoothie it would make. The chocolate one might be quite good if you mixed it with a banana in a smoothie. You could probably use it in place of whey powder/ice, since it has a good amount of protein and is low in carbs :). The flavors can be hit or miss, but I would recommend peanut butter chocolate, mint chocolate, and the mocha/coffee one the most. They can be very subtle and AZ is more icy than creamy, so AZ is best if you add something like whipped topping to it.
