What to put in Oatmeal?

I am trying to decrease my intake of processed foods for breakfast (which is what I traditionally ate). I have begun to eat oatmeal in the morning...which I surprisingly like. However, I need ideas for what to add. Right now, I may add Splenda or Brown Sugar and cinnamon. However, any other ideas on how to jazz up oatmeal?

Side note...In my past unhealthy life, I generally never ate breakfast unless I went to McDonald's for an egg and cheese biscuit (oh, and unsweetened tea...as if that really made a difference). Alternatively, I ate a bag of chips from the vending machine or Cheez-Its- because they had cheese :o Healthy breakfast eating was one of my first small changes but now I want to stay away from a lot of processed breakfast foods...even though low cal.

My absolute favorite thing to put in oatmeal is a spoonful of peanut butter and a little bit of honey. I also enjoy a tiny bit of brown sugar, a handful of raisins, and an ounce of walnuts.

I am about to take oatmeal off my menu for awhile, but it really is the breakfast that keeps me most full throughout the morning. The peanut butter thing sounds weird, but if you like pb, I promise it's delicious.

I use honey.

I like peanut butter too. Sometimes I'll do half a serving of PB with a spoonful of jelly for PB&J oatmeal, and when I really want my breakfast to feel "indulgent" I'll add in a bit of hot chocolate mix and make it PB and chocolate. Deeelish.

Maple syrup is good and it doesn't take a lot to get the flavor. Also, nut and fruits are a great addition to oatmeal. You can even get frozen fruits and just add them as you wish. Pretty much any kind you like will work, but bananas, apples, peaches and berries tend to be popular.

i really like half cup of oatmeal, 25 or so blueberries and some splenda!!

DW adds a 1/2 tsp of vanilla, raisins, and walnuts.

I use the splenda brown sugar and skim milk, sometimes I add cinnamon or sugar free maple syrup.

oatmeal is one of my favorite foods!! i have once a day almost always!! my recent favorite way to fix it is with 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt and 1/2 cup frozen strawberries (with 2 packets stevia/sugar). then put it in the fridge and let it get slightly chilled--tastes EXACTLY like strawberry shortcake--SO good :-)

I also like adding peanut butter and a few chocolate chips...or 1/2 cup pumpkin and a few chocolate chips. apple sauce and cinnamon is also a good combo :)

Haha okay--i'm done. there's just so many endless possibilities!! let me know if you need any more ideas :dizzy:

I cook my oatmeal overnight in the crock pot, using this method - http://annkroeker.com/2008/03/25/ove...l-cut-oatmeal/

I also like to add a chopped up apple, unpeeled but cored, to the oatmeal before it is cooked. Yummmmmmmm ~

There are a gajillion ways to jazz up morning oatmeal, each one better than the last.

My favorite is:

50grams of oats
15grams of crunched walnuts
10 grams of cranberries/currants
1/2 a banana
lots of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of sugar (I've never tried splenda, it's only recently allowed in europe so not lots of selling places. And the other substitues are just not so nice)

I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast. I add 1/4 c. raisins, 2 tbsp. walnuts, and cinnamon. The raisins add the perfect amount of sweetness without having to add additional sweetner.

A bit of granola, little bit of honey, and some PB2(a powdered peanut butter which is missing most of the oils). Helps up the protein...

CANNED PUMPKIN and almond milk. Life changing.

Make oatmeal using unsweetened Vanilla almond milk, as usual. stir in 1/4 cup canned pumpkin (plain, not the pumpkin pie mix with all the added sugar) along with some cinnamon and a little honey or splenda. DIVINE.

Oatmeal is my work morning breakfast. I make it with water and add a drop of honey when I add the oatmeal (40 grams). Before I take it off the stove I add 10 grams each of raisins and dates. Sometimes I make it with dried cranberries.

I always add cinnamon on top!

I'm someone whose default breakfast is a granola bar or a protein bar. Not the worst breakfast in the world, but not the healthiest either. I've been trying to get into the habit of eating oatmeal in the mornings, and I've found it very yummy! My favorite is the old standby - 1/4 cup of raisins and a bunch of cinnamon. Also, a bit of chopped walnuts, or some diced apples & cinnamon as well.
