Carnival Squash

I bought it because it was very pretty...and I was feeling impulsive. Now, what do I do with it?! I thought about you ladies (and gents) while at the grocery store. At first, "I can't buy this squash, I don't know how to cook it!" Then, "Wait, 3FC will have the answer!"

Has anyone eaten a carnival squash? Recommendations?

I have the same question! Well, just about squash in general. I don't know what kind of squash I have, but I have a lot of it because mom went shopping at the farmers market and gave it to me. She told me to boil it, scoop it out, mash it up like potatoes, and put some seasoning in it.

Now, I've done that, but I can't get over the texture of it. What can you do with mashed squash to make it not so... slimy??

I've never cooked one myself, but I think they're pretty similar to acorn squash in terms of texture and sweetness. I've used (microwaved, mashed) acorn squash in this dish and liked it: http://www.recipezaar.com/Butternut-...r-Kugel-108926

I was planning to buy a fairly sweet and small squash this week to roast - just chop it into chunks, toss it in some oil, and throw it in the oven at 400 F. (You can add your favorite herbs/spices, salt, and/or onions for something more savory... or cinnamon and maple syrup or honey or whatever for something sweet.)

I just got an email newsletter from Martha Stewart that had a link to a collection of squash/pumpkin recipes. Of course not all of them are healthy, but there are some fun ideas here: http://www.marthastewart.com/photoga...sh-and-pumpkin
