  • I just tried a carrot cake flavored one and I must say it was AMAZING (no raisins!) And I believe it's vegan. I know it's wheat free, if not gluten free. It does have alot of protein, but I actually have a bit of a deficiency. I don't plan to eat them that often so I won't bulk up. But I was wondering if it would be a smart snack? It's only 240 calories a bar, and it is certified organic.

When I ate it last night it was definitely what i needed, because I had a pile of calculus and I was coming down from a long two days. The only downside was that maybe it gave me a bit too much energy. I couldn't fall asleep until 3 AM, even though I went to bed at 11 PM and I'd had the bar at 8PM. Luckily I wasn't too tired in the morning. Actually. I'm feeling rather chipper right now!

So does anyone else eat these?
  • I LOVE clif bars! They're perfect when I'm teaching dance, or about to go to yoga. It sounds like a gross combination, but my favorite pre-dance meal is a Chocolate chip clif bar and a can of V8. It keeps me going for the couple of hours that I'm in class, and it REALLY is tasty... at least to me
  • I love Cliff bars. I eat one almost everyday. I always eat them as my morning snack so I've never tried to eat them at night. But they do say energy bars.... I have a hard time going to sleep anyways, so I'd probably not risk it.
  • i feel like i have an excuse to get a pack of of ebay now (i can get some dented boxes for 0.99 & shipping!) hee hee

they are definitely a pick me up, but they are so expensive! They're worth it, but i fear I'll be purchasing either bulk or off of ebay D:.
exactly how crunchy are the crunchy peanut butter ones? I tried nature valley crunchy, and nearly broke my teeth!
  • As an aside, eating more protein has nothing to with bulking up. You're not going to gain muscle without lifting weights, and as a female, you're not going to "bulk up" even if you DO lift and eat lots of protein. So no worries about bulking up!
  • 240 cal?!?!?!? That is a lot for a piece of bar. Well, at least in my opinion...
  • But it's so filling(!), it could be a meal. Actually a small snickers is 266 calories, and the last time i ate one of those i was still hungry and quite sleepy. a special K bar on the other hand is 90 calories, and it's not all that filling. I think the Clif bars will be a good balance. From what I've tried, It actualy filled me up and gave me an extra energy push.
  • I prefer the Cliff Nectar bars to the regular ones since they only contain fruits, nuts, and sometimes chocolate (depending on flavor.) Those are only 160-ish calories (again depending on flavor.) I rarely eat them, but they are yummy.

I definitely think they are a good substitute for regular candy bars, but they are still essentially a "healthed-up" candy bar. A piece of fruit and some cheese or peanut butter would be a healthier snack. Of course, if you are out and about and it's a Cliff bar or a Snickers, then I vote for the Cliff bar.
  • I eat clif nectar bars as well. They are a bit of a treat. I do view most bars as glorified candy bars and should be used sparingly.
  • when it comes to fruit i eat dried cranberries. This is essentially because I hate fruit with a passion. Cranberries seem to be the only thing I can stomach willingly
  • We buy them off of an online supplement store. Buying by the box is definitely cheaper than buying each bar individually.

I always keep one in my purse and one of the clif kids bars in my son's backpack when we go out. DH keeps them in his office at school.

at around 200 calories, they are a good snack for between lunch and dinner.

Also, good point Mandalinn - I was going to mention the same thing.

    Exactly what Mandalinn said.

  • Well, that's good. My legs are like muscle monsters, I don't want to end up like this http://www.hantelparty.de/xt/female-bodybuilder.gif D:!!!
  • I've only ever had the carrot cake. I love it too!
  • mouse - you do realize that she probably works out for hours every day for years and was on an extreme diet to lower her body fat for her muscles to be that visible, right? Eating protein isn't going to turn you into super muscle woman
