Apple Cider Vinegar...cure-all???

Have any of you ever tried taking a couple teaspoons of raw, organic apple cider vinegar a couple times a day. A friend told me it is supposed to be good for your digestive system and aid in weight loss.

It's probably one of those gimmicks but I thought I would ask!

Just yesterday, I saw that suggested on the Eating Well website. Personally, I think it is nonsense, but what do I know? I was surprised that Eating Well was pushing something like this.

Here's the webMD article on it.... Pretty interesting- their take is that maybe it's not *just* an old wives tale and maybe there is a little benefit to it. http://www.webmd.com/diet/apple-cider-vinegar

It really helps pull your sugar number down. Don't ask me why. The PCOSers are completely in love with it. Vinegar and cinnamon and soy, :lol so they have a few favourites.
I personally haven't tried it yet, but I have though about it.

Well, I personally use it and it has helped me a LOT with cravings for junk food. I used to just feel the need to eat all the time and do not feel that anymore. I drink a shotglass in the morning and one at night.

Yow! That's hardcore! :) It doesn't upset your tummy?

I every once in a while will add apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. But I can't imagine drinking it straight. :)

I worked with a lady that had diabetes and she said that she takes shots of ACV when she thinks her sugar is up.
I don't know about it helping with appetite-?
I guess it's possible and what helps one person may not help another :~

I seem to recall a book about glycemic index/load saying that acidic foods have a lower GI/GL, and recommended using citrus and vinegar in your cooking. Oranges, for example, have a low GI (42). I haven't read the GI/GL literature in depth, so someone feel free to correct me if needed. It's an interesting idea.

If you do not dilute it with water (about 8 oz is usual) then the vinegar strips the enamel from your teeth.

Vinegar for reflux

When I was on NSAIDs and they had torn up my stomach, I had the worst reflux of acid. I was watching a PBS special and this lady said to take a tablespoon of vinegar and it will stop the reflux. Well...it taste horrible, but I"ll be danged if it doesn't work. Closes the sphincter at the stomach's opening and keep the acid in your belly, not your throat. It really does work!!

I don't drink vinegar for weight loss, but I will use it to break up chest congestion if I'm ill (only for chest, not nasal or sinus congestion). A shot of the stuff diluted in a coffee mug of hot water really seems to get things cleared out.
