LOL.....I eat my salad in a mixing bowl! I thought I was the only one! Lunch is my biggest meal, I have a huge salad with cut up chicken, turkey or tuna. I throw in all kinds of veg and for dressing I use olive oil and balsamic. I have a nice mug of green tea along with it and it's my favorite meal of the day.

Jilly, I'm really thrilled for you. I checked out that Asian dressing. It sounds FABULOUS. I wouldn't be surprised though, if you can elminate most of that oil and replace it with water, yup, water. If and when you decide you want to bring down your calories a tad, you might want to give it a try.

I will definitely keep that in mind! For my next batch, I'm thinking also of replacing some (if not all) of the canola oil with macadmia nut oil to get more monounsaturated fats. I'm thinking it might even be a bit more flavorful, too. I LOVE that dressing!

Okay, I just did a delightful squirm in my seat reading that, haha! I have to make it soon.

Food obsessions, hmmmmmm, well, I eat pita sandwiches just about every night of the week. I stuff them with whatever I'm in the mood for. I use both store-bought pitas and I also make my own. I'll fill them with veggies, lean meats, salads, whatever I feel like having.

I'm a pita fanatic.

Grapefruit: I've been getting locally grown yellow grapefruit at the farmers' market and pink grapefruit from Trader Joe's. Both are so sweet I cannot believe they are only 9 calories an oz. I eat it on my yogurt and cereal in the morning; in a salad with cabbage, roasted onions, fennel, and light chevre for lunch; and with sweetened yogurt in a parfait for my evening snack. Yes, I am eating grapefruit three times a day!
Kohlrabi: I've discovered I love this veggie. I've been slicing it up and eating it raw and putting it in my dinner salad.

Also, here are my long-term obsessions:
Greek Yogurt and Cereal: My favorite breakfast for the past year has been 1 cup non-fat greek yogurt with 1/2 cup high fiber cereal and 2 oz of fruit. I've eaten this just about every weekday for at least the past year. But if I can find that pumpkin flax cereal I just might try it in place of the high fiber cereal.
.

Well, now I'm craving grapefruit and want to try a kohlrabi! If you're really interested in the cereal, you can always buy it online!

6 boxes for 18 bucks is really a good deal, of course, with 6 boxes, I hope you like it! heh

Glory, I feel so fortunate that I am able to still enjoy so many of the foods that I started out eating when I began this journey. It seems so weird to other folks that I eat so many of the same foods day after day. But not the people here. Now I wonder why that is? I really don't. I think it's been one of the keys to success for me as well as many of the other success stories around here. Glory, I'd think we'd hit it off so well if we were ever to meet in person.

I always think the same thing! :)

Bummer--at 140 calories per 1/2 cup, that probably makes it off limits for me. My current cereal is only 60 calories per 1/2 cup, so switching to the granola would put a big dent in my calories for the day. There are three grocery stores that I frequent that carry Flax Plus products so one of them might have even it. Oh well.

The grapefruit was a surprise. I've never been a big grapefruit eater and haven't eaten it years. It's way sweeter than I remember and all of a sudden I can't get enough of it.

I'm reading You on a Diet and they recommend this strategy. They suggest eating the same foods every day for most of your meals and just experimenting with one meal. That's pretty much my approach. I experiment with dinner--I usually try one to three new recipes every week, but I eat the same things every day for breakfast and snacks. I do some experimenting with lunch because there are a lot of foods I like that I can't make for dinner because my SO won't eat them (like grapefruit), but I also have a lot of repetition in my lunches.

BlueToBlue 02-15-2008 03:34 PM

Wow! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who eats a salad out of a mixing/serving bowl. My SO is used to it, but I've often thought that I would be embarrassed for anyone else to see how big my salads are. It feels so decadent to eat that much food. I often have to remind myself that it's all measured and accounted for--except that I probably put more lettuce in than I'm actually counting. But I figure if I'm not losing/maintaining my weight, it's not the lettuce that is the problem.

I eat the same thing every day as well. It is just a lot easier to do. Actually, breakfast, lunch and dinner are typically the same thing with minor variations. I also eat my lunch salad out of a fairly big tupperware (cram the salad in) and then dinner salad is in a fairly large bowl too.

rockinrobin 02-15-2008 05:01 PM

I think eating the same foods again is helpful in a few different ways.

If it's working for you and you enjoy it, well then why not stick with it? Kind of like "you don't fix what ain't broken". It also takes the decision process out of the picture, for the most part. You just don't leave yourself wide open to other BAD choices. And oddly enough, I find comfort from it.

As far as the large salad bowls go, I always hear people saying they should eat using a smaller dinner plate to help cut down on portions, well not me, the bigger the better. Ya really gotta love veggies for this to work though. Luckily - I DO!!! Seems like lots of you do too. Yay!!

Which cereal is this? :dizzy:

I'm loving oatmeal at the moment...and humuus. I get some from the whole foods store and it's 50 calories for 2 tablespoons..yum yum.

Current food obsessions?

Fresh green beans

I've been making this REALLY yummy, simple salad with fresh green beans and citrus and having it for lunch with some chicken. Sooo tasty!

Corn

One of mom's co-workers gave us a massive amount of frozen corn on the cob that he grew in his little garden, and I've had so much fun incorporating it into things! It's so yummy and sweet and it plays well with others. I really love it, and it tastes so much different than canned corn.

rockinrobin 02-19-2008 06:43 AM

Summerlove, I'm not positive, but I think the cereal BluetoBlue is speaking aboutis Fiber One Cereal. It's something I too eat every single day.

xtrisaratops, green beans is one of my favorites too. I eat them almost every single day. They are great raw for munching. SUPERB roasted up with fresh garlic and onions. DELISH.

food obscession

:dizzy: All bran. yogert and frozen berries, especially cranberries. I like sour things. If I sweeten it, which I usually don't, I use a few grains of stevia, just to give it a hint of sweetness.

nelie 02-19-2008 09:56 AM

Trader Joe's high fiber cereal is only 80 calories for 2/3 cup. I'm on the path to transition off of it because it contains whey (blah blah blah) but it is good, filling and cheap.
