It just grosses me out. I could never eat eggs that were even slightly running. I would like my hard boiled eggs that had a dark skin inside too...

I don't like eggnog much, though I like the homemade version better than the thick commercial stuff (which my DH will guzzle gladly). What I do like, and is not too awful calorically speaking, is an eggnog latte. Instead of using straight eggnog, I have them cut it about 50/50 or even 60/40 with skim milk. You get the nice nutmeg taste and little creamier latte, at way less the calories of straight eggnog. But still, I limit myself to only a few during the holiday season. :)

Egg nog is sold year 'round where there's a demand for it. In Australia, for example. I know until about 15 years ago, my father often bought egg nog "off-season." It was harder to find, and I think it was produced by a small local dairy (central Illinois) and only sold it in a few grocery stores. My dad worked as a delivery man for Butternut Bread, and it was sold all year in one of the grocery stores he delevered to. After he was transferred to another area, he couldn't find it any more (and wasn't desperate enough for it to drive an hour to get it).
I think there's a canned egg nog that's more easily available all year. It's usually sold in the baking section. |
bump 12/22: I saw some canned eggnog today in my neighborhood supermarket (I think it was Borden's brand, it was in the section of UK imports)

Went to a friend's house the day before Christmas eve for their Christmas party. I was proud of myself for not pigging out.
But I did have 3 cups of homemade eggnog (they dumped 1 whole mickey of brandy and scotch Whisky in the bowl) WHOOOO that's the way to drink eggnog (a proper eggnog glass holds 1/2 cup of the drink). |
