Eating out: Acapulco mexican restaurant

  • So thi weekend I have made plans to eat at a mexican restaurant and I am scared to death!!! We are going to Acapulco restaurant cantina and i do not know what to order! Can anyone who has eaten there recommend some healthy menu items? PLease!! Thanks!
  • I'm not familiar with that specific restaurant but in general: Choose grilled rather than fried, vegetables rather than meats. Watch the cheese. Choose black beans rather than refrieds.
  • does this place have a web site. if they do check it out. glen
  • Fajitas are usually a good choice. I get them with steamed corn tortillas instead of flour. Put the basket of chips on the other side of the table. Same with guac and sour cream. I've also gotten a marvelous mexican grilled fish before. Quite good and very figure friendly. I agree with black beans and go easy on the rice.
  • As to be expected, Acapulco doesn't supply nutritional information (and a googling didn't turn up anything relevant either, on a cursory notice.) So I'd say eat lighter for the other meals/snacks of the day, and make more healthful options @ the restaurant.

Tortilla Soup is usually healthy, ask for no cheese (and depending on how you feel, no or "on the side" for tortilla strips and avocado)

Send the bowl of chips back! Or if your dining companion wants it, keep it on his/her side of the table and as far away from you.

Grilled meats (such as fajitas) are generally healthy, but ask for black instead of refried beans, and no to sour cream (and possibly the guac.)

Fish/shrimp tacos can also be healthy, w/o the cream sauce and cheese. Ask for pico de gallo/salsa instead.

Of course, stay away from the cheese ladened stuff like quesadilla & enchiladas.

Steer clear of the margaritas, lots of sugar and empty calories! If you must have alcohol, go for a beer instead, or a tequila shot with lime juice chaser.

Finally, ask for a to-go box when you get your entree (esp. if you had an appetizer) and put half of everything in there right away.
  • I agree with Aqua and LindaT, I normally go for the fajitas without cheese or sour cream. Typically anything in a sauce is going to be outrageous calories, unless it's a basic red sauce.

But most importantly, ENJOY the meal. One meal isn't going to ruin everything. Eat your meal, enjoy it, have a good time and just get back to your regular routine the next day
