Calories in a boneless skinless chicken breast?
Hi, I tried looking up how many cals are in a whole chicken breast (not cooked in oil) and I am having trouble. I have seen 100 up to 300 cals from different sources. Also they are talking about 4 oz and 6 oz. I just want to know when you go to the store and buy a normal pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts how many calories are in 1 whole breast? Does anyone know?

Depends on the size. If you go to the store and the package weight is 1 lb, and contains 2 chicken breasts (which is standard size at my store), each is 8 oz. A boneless, skinless chicken breast that is 8 oz is 250 calories. Basically, without knowing package size and total weight it is impossible to know calories.

Generally, I figure my chicken breasts at 30 calories per ounce of weight. So lets say I purchased a package of 2 chicken breasts at the store with a total weight of 1.5 lbs. There are 16 oz per pound, so the total package was 24 oz. If I ate an entire breast from that package, it would be half the total weight, or 12 oz. at 30 calories per ounce, a 12 oz chicken breast would be 360 calories total.

Once you know the key facts - number of breasts per package, total weight of package, and the 30 cals per ounce and 16 oz per lb, you can calculate the calories in each breast fairly easily.

Hope that helps!

To make this an easy formula, plug your numbers into the following:

(Total Weight of pkg in Lbs) x (16 ounces/lb)
______________________________________ = Oz. per Serving/piece

Number of servings/pieces in package

(Oz per Serving/piece) x (30 calories/oz) = Total calories per serving/piece

I always weigh my chicken after it's cooked... and then figure 55 calories per ounce...(that number comes from Diabetic diet).... and it really depends on the size of the breast... If I'm estimating a serving, if it's the size of a deck of cards, it's about 3 ounces- or 165 calories... again, I weigh after it's cooked...

a food scale would be the best way to know for sure how many oz. you have. It's the main reason one is on my wish list, I don't really know how much 4oz. to 6oz. looks like, I usually just guess but then I might not be following a diet menu exactly.

when getting calories for protein or foods without a label, I'll check a few sites and pick the calorie count that's most common.
