Question about restarting
About a year ago I did regular exercise. A cardio DVD for 50 minutes a day, followed by another 20 minute cardio DVD daily. I had a huge break from this and have been doing no additional exercise to daily/work tasks.
What is the best way for me to start? I plan to start a half hour walk each lunch time. I also want to go to the gym and swim again. To begin with I was thinking of about 30 minutes each time (steady walk 10 mins, steady cycle 10 mins, steady cross train 10 mins) 3 or 4 times a week - possibly with a casual swimming session most weeks. Is this too much to start? I figure it is something I could maintain in the longer term, rather than an hour and twenty minutes everyday! |
Not too much. You will definitely feel the difference for sure, but you should be able to push back to where you were. What I would do, just to have a baseline to see where you are at currently - try the routine (2 dvd's) you had been doing. Give it a try, and use them to test yourself for progress. I think you should try to do as much as you can (walking, swimming, cross train) and see what you're capable of. Since there will naturally be rest in between the exercise, I think you could probably do quite a bit more if you are up for it.
Start with the cycling, then cross train and finish up with the walking to start. |
