Anyone else not into red meat?
Hi Feathers!
Am I the only one who's not into eating red meat anymore? I used to love eating hamburgers, meatloaf and a good T-bone steak when I was younger but not lately. My elderly father has numerous cardiac problems so eating red meat is a concern for me given my family history with heart disease. Also, as I gotten older, I find that eating a piece of red meat leaves me feeling sluggish and heavy for days afterwards. I can honestly say that except for the very rare occasion when I'll indulge in a piece of ham, I don't eat any four-legged animals anymore. I just feel better when I stay away from red meat. I eat cottage cheese, eggs, turkey, tuna, chicken, etc. for my protein sources. What about you? Meat eater or not? |
I never did each too much red meat as compared to other meats. I've mostly been a chicken girl, myself but I do love a good cheeseburger or steak now and then. I also like all-beef hot dog. But other than occasional bursts where I eat hot dogs for days in a row (I really, really love nathans hot dogs) I rarely eat red meat more than once or twice a month.

No, I can't relate -- I enjoy a Morton's filet weekly and pretty much end up making love to that plate! I hear you on the heart disease issue. It runs in my family and I'm sad to think I might have to cut down my consumption at some point. Until then, I'll pretend the red wine I drink with my steak cancels out the negatives. ;)

Hi
I eat no meat at all as the creatures that supply it are all cruelly raised and slaughtered, especially chicken. Have lost 37 lb eating as my protein sources many alternatives like lentils, chickpeas, peanut butter, free range farm eggs and so on. |

As far as OP, I LOVE red meat, but I rarely eat it just because it's generally not lean. It is definitely my fave, as I dislike chicken and most fish, but I force myself to eat them. But I do like eggs (hence, my chickens), so I eat a lot of egg whites. |
Careful, fitmom... giving up red meat is a slippery slope. Soon you'll be a pescetarian, then a vegetarian...
Then you'll be like me: someone whose food budget goes half to organic vegetables, half to "staples" like vegan protein powder, egg whites, tofu, greek yogurt, and cottage cheese... being a low-carb vegetarian is always an adventure ;) |
I should add, I'm more-or-less a low-fat person too. When 'on plan'--anytime I cook for myself, that is--my diet is basically salad, whatever veggies are in season (right now zucchini, squash, beets, cucumbers), lots of staple dairy/eggs-based protein, and some non-dairy protein as well. I'm now actively trying to cut down the dairy part in favor of more beans, chickpeas, and legumes.
All of this is health-based, by the way -- I'm not much of an animal lib person, though factory farming does make me uncomfortable. And it all lies at the bottom of the slippery slope that starts with no red meat. :P |
lackadasiy: LOL. In all seriousness, I don't think I could ever imagine myself eliminating turkey or chicken from my diet. I love them too much. And what would Thanksgiving be without turkey? I don't think vegetarianism is personally for me. But I tip my hat to those who can adopt that lifestyle. No eating red meat is enough for me. BTW, I do make a mean roast chicken. :p

Never been big on the red meats although I do LOVE the occasional burger and bbq rib on 4th of july. Other than that I could live on fish and chicken. Especially salmon !

I've never been a fan of red meat and for almost a year and a half I have been following a pescetarian diet. I used to substitute ground beef for ground turkey when I made spaghetti or burgers.

As I started changing my life, I started throwing out things I didn't love or weren't 100% healthy for me...red meat fit the bill..never been crazy about it and no reason for me to consume the calories in it...I do love, love seafood of all sorts and like some turkey too...but yeah..no red meat here unless I am at a dinner party with no alternative entree

I've been a vegetarian for ethical reasons for 9 years now, but man does cooked meat still smell good. I don't want or crave it, but I know if they magically came up with a way to grow a steak in a lab I'd be all on that!
