How Do You Sculpt & Tone?
How do you "firm up" your body after you reach goal weight (what particular exercises do you use)?
I've reached goal weight and only have a couple more lbs to lose, but my lower belly (2-3" beneath my belly button) still sticks out about 1". I assumed that once I reach GW, I'd change my goal from "losing weight" to "firming/toning up". For losing weight, I did lots of cardio.. What should I do now for firming/toning? I have a few 10-15 minute ab workouts that involve different crunches and planks- I used to throw in one of these a day along with my usual 45-60 min cardio a day. My big sister says to quit with the cardio, because I have no more fat to lose. I've reached "goal weight", but I still don't look in shape due to a non-flat belly or "mommy-tummy".. Any suggestions? I also have a pilates dvd, which I never use, but if that's what I need to sculpt/tone, I'll make myself do it.. Thanks! |
Cardio will not firm and tone you. You need to be doing weight training for that. Losing weight without doing that means you lost muscle right along with the fat so probably have a higher bf % now that you have reached goal. There is no such thing as spot reducing so concentrate on overall toning all areas of your body. You can get hand weights and exercise bands at Walmart for less than $10 if you want to do it at home.

I would definitely had in some strength training and some core work. Planks are good!

Planks are the new crunches, lol. I have a small section just below my navel which is not entirely flat. I still run because my heart thanks me. ;) But weights are key as well. I do 15-20 lb. kettlebells, great for the core and tons of planks. Keep up the excellent work! :)

I'd say cut your cardio down to a 30-45 mins, and don't do cardio on the days that you strength train. If you work out 5 days a week do three days of strength and two of cardio.
Check out stumptuous.com for tips on how to strength train, I love that site! Throw out the mini weights and start lifting heavier! |
