Dinner Party ... Help!

Okay, I'm at home with my parents and sister for a week, which is lovely and wonderful. My Mum and Sister both acknowledge that I need to lose 'about 10 lbs' (I'd like to lose 15lbs) but my Dad is just like 'oh honey, you look fine...you're just voluptuous' - which doesn't help.

Also my Mother is telling me to relax a little this week as I'm on holiday, and then just go back to dieting when I go home. I have been relaxing a little but I don't want to completely let go.

Tonight my Mother is throwing a dinner party for old family friends. The Menu is Gazpacho, followed by a chicken thing where the chicken is cooked in rice with olive oil, olives and tomatoes, followed by a selection of cheeses, then a baked cheesecake. Now I love baked cheesecakes, but I know I can't have any...especially with everything else, but it's going to be so difficult.

I want to relax with old friends, see? Any advice would be lovely. I don't want to draw attention to myself by not eating everything.

Thankyou!

I know I will probably go against what everyone else says, but I'd just eat a bit of what you want and enjoy yourself! I know these 'special' occasions come around quite often, and if you said yes to everything you wanted you'd end up putting on weight. However, I don't think saying no to everything is a realistic plan to have. The dinner party food sounds fine (except for the cheesecake), so I'd just eat a little bit of everything, taste it all and finish when you're full.

You are more likely to draw attention to yourself if you eat loads of everything than if you have a little bit of everything you fancy and stop when you've had enough. All the naturally skinny people I've observed do this, rather than reject everything they want and end up eating more of the 'healthier' options (read low cal) to make up for the disappointment.

Good luck!

Thankyou Claire, I might do that, although will avoid to cheesecake...Was consdiering just having gazpacho and nothing else, but that's probably not a brilliant plan as people would notice and it would seem weird, whileas passing on cheesecake is excusable, especially as there is also going to be fresh fruit on the table. xx

The chicken sounds really healthy, I'd definitely have some of that without feeling guilty. I'd probably skip the rice to make myself feel better, but I don't really like rice anyway. You'll be fine if there is fresh fruit on the table, it won't look weird at all!

Have a slightly smaller portion of soup, pick out plenty of chicken (skip the rice) and veggies, and take a little sliver of the cheesecake.

Avoid the cheese! It will land you in binge city, if you're anything like me. :P

Helene-- Have a bit of everything... have an extra good workout on the day before, the day of, and the day after the party... And don't look back, life gets in the way of diet plans sometimes but that's just life!! We need to live... I'm also no saying to do it all the time but this one time will not quash all your efforts.

Anytime I have situations like this I get a lotttttt of the good clean stuff. LIke fruit or salad (without dressing) and then little small portions of the bad stuff. It actually looks like youre eating more than everyone. Which you are, but getting less calories! This way you will be full and able to have a taste of the good foods! But I am guessing the dinner was last night? So maybe this is a little late...
