Measurements...I think I am heavy!!

Ok, I am going to put this to rest, once and for all!! I figure this is the best place to do it because I can sound awfully whiny. LOL!

I feel like I am really heavy for my size. I feel like the stupid BMI chart is bogus for me! But 99% of the time, the BMI chart is just fine! Women don't pack on muscle. It's a myth. Right? Do I really think I am that 1% or whatever of people for whom it doesn't apply? Can I really say I am so much of an athlete that I'm just that special?

I am so happy with my look but that number on the scale is still so high! I'm still 6 pounds overweight! My body is fighting me tooth and nail with these last pounds. I really want to get to 135 for no other reason but that it will mean I can say I've lost 100 pounds. That's it! That's the only reason! And I WILL get to 145 for no other reason than that it's "normal" and by golly, I will be normal!!

That said...in the same store, I am wearing a size 10 dress but a size 4 skirt/pants! Apparently I have a large rib cage. I couldn't be happier with the size 4. I am consistently in a size 6.

My measurements are: 36-28-36

So that's pretty good, right? Pretty normal?

Hey there...I would say your measurements sound just fine to me...I am 5'2 and 127lbs...and my measurements are the same as yours..the scale however says that I'm still close to being overweight...I want to drop the last 9lbs for me to be at 118lbs just because that was my weight the day I found out I was pregnant LOL...so I completely understand...and CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss this far! :carrot:

Losing 84 pounds is excellent, period.

The last 15 will come off slower. They always do. But they *will* come off, as long as you're consistent in maintaining a calorie deficit, preferably through a combination of increased activity and decreased intake.

As for the BMI charts, they're just a tool. Unfortunately, they're a tool that is endorsed by the insurance companies, who care about averages and average risks a lot more than they care whether or not we're upset by the label "overweight" or "obese."

have you had your body fat tested? That's another useful measurement tool, especially for people who are getting close to "normal" weight.

Congrats on your amazing progress so far. You should be proud!

Kim

Kaw, great tip- I second having your body fat measured. :)

Side note- Kaw, your body is a temple! Your thighs are bloody brilliant!

Not accurately.

With the hand held device I am 30% and with the navy measurement scale it says 24%. I don't trust the hand held thing at all since I've read it measures mostly the upper body and I have a large chest. There's a lot of fat still in them. ;) I'm not so worried about that fat.

I went back and edited my numbers. I was larger in the hips than I remembered and smaller in the waist. Apparently I've lost an inch from my waist this month! :D I'm thrilled!

As of two days ago my measurements were:

neck- 12.5
chest- 37.25
waist- 31.25
hips- 37

I think yours sound normal to me.

those are my perfect measurements. i probably won't get down that small. i really don't trust the bmi at all. i have tons of muscle (well i did till i stopped exercising) leading me to feel that the weight on the scale or bmi is never really right. or that it doesn't matter. matters much more how we feel, how healthy we are, the experiences with our kids, learning a healthy lifestyle....not the numbers. i know you know that already too.
