Fiber Diet?

I'm in the process of trying to find a dieting book with a "menu" that's rich in fiber. I'm trying to loose 10-15 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks, but I have no idea where to start. Every time I google 'fiber diet' I get a bunch of blogs or articles on the importance of fiber.
Is this the best way to loose the weight? :?:
Any help is welcomed!

There is no "best way" to lose 10-15 in 3 weeks.

Except maybe this: http://www.spanx.com/home/index.jsp

OK, then what is?
I've never actually tried to loose weight and I have no idea where to begin...

Do you know how many calories you eat in one day?

You could try reducing it to 1200-1400 per day, and focus on lean proteins, whole grains, and LOTS of fruits and vegetables.

Whole grains, fruits and veggies are where you're going to get most of your fiber from.

But BE CAREFUL. If you overdo it on the fiber you can get really really constipated.

10-15 lbs in 3 weeks is kind of a lot - its suggested you only lose 0.5-2lbs a week...

I thought fiber helps you to go to the bathroom?

To a certain degree...Fiber helps clean you out, but if you have too much it can have the opposite effect.

Thanks for the help, stellarosa.

What are good options for breakfast? Today I only ate (wheat) toasts, a banana, and a cup of orange juice. Is this unhealthy? When I think of breakfast I think bacon, eggs, cheese, pancakes, and strawberry milk, and I'm pretty sure I won't loose any weight with a breakfast like that. :P
For lunch I took a lean pocket to work, and for dinner I'm having chicken with asparragus.

Obviously, I'm hungry, but I don't know if I'm hungry because I'm new to this diet, or because I'm not eating enough.

By the way, my calorie intake today (assuming I don't eat anything other than what I listed) would be 1095.

seagirl - LOL at the Spanx link!

here's one list from a good source:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hig...-foods/NU00582

swap the orange juice for a whole orange. juice is high in calories and doesn't have fiber (maybe pulpy juice has a bit, but it's still high in calories for not a lot of nutrition.) make sure the toast is whole grain (not all "wheat" bread is). you could try oatmeal or high fiber cereal. and consider getting some protein in your breakfast. maybe peanut butter on your toast- it's high calorie, but nutrient dense.

for processed foods like lean pockets, the nutrition info is on the package. you would be less hungry if you had more actual food. vegetables are so low in calories that you can eat large amounts- they fill you up, they provide lots of nutrients and fiber.

there are lots of posts in these forums with recipe ideas, general diet plans, etc. i have learned a lot here.

when i was actively losing weight, i lost about 10 pounds a month without ever feeling hungry- really! and i ate delicious food and i felt great. i like to cook, which helped a lot, and i already loved veggies (for some people it's a process of learning to love them).

breakfast for me had to be filling. if not, i would eat my lunch at my desk by 10am! best bets for me were:

2 slices high fiber toast with peanut butter (watch the portion size). this was the only time i would have bread in the day, so i really enjoyed it. when i wanted a snack late at night (not because i was hungry, just feeling snacky) i would think, "oh, but tomorrow morning you get to have toast and peanut butter!" and that would somehow defer my snackiness.)

steel cut oatmeal, with some walnuts or a little peanut butter stirred in (for protein and flavor) and maybe some dried fruit or a little jam. though i don't measure or weigh, i was conscious of portion size- dried fruits and nuts have a lot of calories, but also fiber, flavor (a very important nutrient to me!) and nuts have healthy fats. steel cut oatmeal takes a while to cook, but i would just soak it overnight in water and then it cooks in about 10 minutes. it has much more texture and chew than rolled oats or that powdery sweetened instant kind. i find it very satisfying.

low fat greek yogurt, which is high in protein and thick and creamy delicious. i prefer it plain, but many people add something to sweeten it up, or some high fiber cereal. i might mix fruit in, or just eat a piece of fruit on the side.

these worked for me. some people eat the exact same thing every day, and some people need to mix it up or they get bored. find what works for you.

breakfast doesn't have to be "breakfast food," either. today i had a collard greens, sweet potato and black bean stew! with hot sauce. it seems that a lot of foods are considered weird to eat for breakfast, unless you put them in an omelet. (and a veggie omelet is a good source of protein, fiber and nutrition)

with all things, watch portion sizes!

good luck! sorry to go on and on, i'm sort of getting back to eating better again and writing this was a good reminder to me.

pucedaisy: No need to say sorry! That's exactly what I wanted.

This is very naive, but I actually thought I could loose 5 lbs in a week. I've done it before, but obviously it doesn't stay off. I really want to loose the weight, so hopefully I'll commit to the approximate two months to loose the pounds!

Epro :welcome: ... Losing 5 lb in a week is doable but not healthy and as you said you will put it back on pronto as soon as you eat a bit too much, plus eating so little will give you cravings and have you running to the pancakes and then you'll get discouraged thinking you can't do this, when yes you can do it that's for sure!

Here is a helpful site for portion control and food labeling

did anyone see rachel ray yesterday? she the woman who wrote the flat belly diet book on her show. she's written a new book called the cinch or something. then she also had a 7 day plan that makes you lose 8lbs in those 7 days. you could only eat spinach, eggs, yougurt, rasberries, almonds and that may have been it. i def couldn't do that for 7 days. she also didn't mention portions, but you had to eat maybe 5x a day and still just those foods. i prob couldn't work out and have energy. also i wonder if you could only lose if you were just starting your weight loss, i know i lost like 6lbs the first week bc of water weight.the cinch diet looked good, had a variety of whole foods and taught portion sizes.

pucedaisy 01-06-2011 11:32 AM

you may lose more the first week- when you cut crap out of your diet, especially sodium, and drink lots of water, you can lose a lot of "water weight," or bloating. i think my first week i lost 4 pounds. but don't get discouraged if it is slow. a pound or two week by week adds up fast! and you can manage that without feeling hungry or deprived. pay attention to what works/ doesn't work for you and keep tweaking. good luck- you can do this!!

This. You're not going to have a 17,500 (3500 * 5) calorie deficit in a week regardless of what you eat.
