Colonic Hydrotherapy

  • or 'colonic irrigation'....

    Has anyone had one?

They were doing a special offer at 30% of the price, if pre-bought on a particular day. So I bought it because I'd always been intrigued.

This isn't for 'weight loss' - I'm so close to goal now and I've been working at it for SO long that I'd hate to cheat my way over the finishing line. Think I'll wait until after I reach goal.

I was under the impression that it gave you a bit of a 'reboot', y'know when you feel all sluggish down there and wish 'Why did I eat all this stuff? It's going to take me a months worth of All-bran and lentils to allow me to get over this!'

But apparently the procedure. can make you a little less 'efficient' and you might start 'relying' upon it. I'm sure this is just repeated procedures but I'm worried because I like how erm... regular I am.

Anyone had one? Did you experience any problems/benefits?

I'm quite happy to try it once, but I don't want to have big regrets.
  • The colon, like our other outlets, is self cleaning. So I let mine self clean.
  • Groupon? My friend bought one too!

Personally never had one, I'm not brave enough, I don't eat meat or processed stuff so I'm hoping I'm good in that whole.. area... lol
I've heard it benefits your skin a good deal so that's good if it's true.

    Good luck with it!

This is what I believe as well. I would not use one because I would be too afraid of throwing something that was working normally out of whack.

Also, many colon cleanse products are sold fraudulently and that really bothers me. I am not familiar with this author, but I agree with him and he provides some good links.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.
  • A good friend of mine is a colo-rectal surgeon. He can't believe it's legal.
  • Jessless, that's a GREAT link. I'm a physician, and I agree with every word of that article, which is a measured and thoughtful explanation of why "colon cleansing" is both popular, and misleading. Also surprisingly long-lived as a health scam- there were colon-cleansing enemas and liquids advertised well over a hundred years ago, for much the same "clean out the impurities and become a healthier you" reasons that they are marketed for now.

DoraUK- my opinion, save your money and spend it on posh fresh fruits and veggies this winter- a better way of "cleansing" and waaay more pleasant.
  • Thanks for all of this. Have unfortunately already bought it. Did that typical thing of 'ooo something is usually worth this and they are only asking for this.'

    *sigh*

yeah, cardboardcutoutcat groupon! I'm literally addicted to the deals. I bought a ridiculous steak dinner for 40% of the price. That's going to be my celebration for a week of staying at goal. Which hopefully won't be *too* long.

    Thanks again chicks xxx
  • Sorry Dora, feel your pain. Don't you just hate it when you buy something (especially something you can't return), just to find out it's not what you hoped for I always feel that instinct to buy, buy, buy when I check out the daily deals on Woot -

Personally, my only colon cleansers are a diet high in fiber and my morning cup of coffee
  • Just because you bought it doesn't mean you have to use it.
  • Oh I'm not going to! I'd rather sacrifice £40 then my health.
  • Maybe you should give it to someone that you don't really like as a present for Xmas?

I know that is probably a really evil idea.
  • Evil...but fun!

I've thought about these. I'm still not "regular" despite the piles and piles of beans, fibrous fruits and veggies and fiber cereal I eat.
  • Dave Navarro had it done, and filmed it on his show before he married Carmen Electra.

That's about all I know on the topic, lol.
  • Haha. My kids like to joke about colonics all of the time.
There's a place in my area that will even come to your house!!
I'm kinda curious, but I know I'll never do it.
