When you underestimate your calorie intake....

  • Do you skip a meal to make up for it? I'm at my daily calories already today. Wondering if I should skip dinner or just go over by 150 or so just to have something to eat so I can sleep. Going over 1200 seems to be a chronic problem for me....
  • Don't skip a meal. Find something low calorie to eat. Do you plan your meals ahead of time ? I find this helps if I know what I am going to eat for each meal and snack.
  • I do find something to eat, like cantaloupe and cottage cheese, steamed veggies, something healthy! If you're only eating 1200 cals, I'm sure eating a 300 calorie dinner to go over to 1500 once a week or 2 will not hurt your weight loss, it might even help it

  • Thank you for your thoughts! I had some steamed spinach and fat free cheese. Now I'm going to sit on my hands so I can't feed anything else into my face til dawn!
  • I go over and then subtract that amount from the next day.
  • I do the same thing as wildflower. Another thing that works OK for me is to be willing to go over by several hundred calories for special events, then pay the calories back 100 or 200 at a time over the next week or two.
  • I don't skip my meal, but sometimes my "meal" will end up being roasted veggies. Often that's all I FEEL like eating. Sometimes I only eat the roasted veggies so I can have something with my family at the dinner table.

I get crazy hungry around 4:30 and can just blow all my calories waiting around for dinner. But once I've reached my cap, I'm usually satisfied and can go the rest of the evening without eating. So that's my way around this little problem.
  • I've been paying back my overage this week - I'm only at 127 over for the week with 3 days still to go to make that up. This morning I was down .2 even with the extra calories so, pinkflower, you might be on to something there....

I resisted touching any food at the party I went to last night and when I got to my bf's house, he was eating chicken parm and I said no to that too. Had a cup of mint tea instead. It was a Christmas miracle!
  • flippychick- I like how you say it was a Christmas miracle! Hilarious! And kudos to you for that.. that takes real willpower!
  • Oooh la la, I did it again! I said no to a Maryland crab cake! Everyone was trying to tell me they aren't fattening - but I looked them up later - an 8oz crab cake from that particular restaurant is 342 calories and 18 GRAMS of FAT. My entire dinner (1 beer, salad and homemade soup) was about 350 cal, 5 grams of fat. How can anyone think that something that tastes THAT good, doesn't have a lot of calories??? It has too. It's just common sense! Well... lobster without butter tastes pretty darn good too, but you have to at least work to get it out of the shell so there's a hint of natural tastiness. Unlike an 8 oz pile of breadcrumbs and butter, which you basically could eat even if you didn't have teeth... Am I ranting here? Did someone switch my decaf with high-test???
