How often...

do you weigh yourself?

everyday? weekly? what do you find is the most motivational??

JessieCat 11-09-2010 07:34 PM

I weigh everyday unless it is TOM. But in the past this has been a problem... ie if I am working hard but seeing a gain that can trigger a binge....but I find I am more accountable if I know I have to weigh in everyday.

I used to do weekly but I just can't wait that long anymore! As long as you are comfortable with the day to day fluctuations weighing in everyday is a good idea.

Every morning after peeing, naked for my "official" weight. I like to see how much I weigh after a workout, after dinner etc sometimes. Frequent weighing has made me well-attuned to how my body tends to fluctuate.

sourbaby 11-09-2010 07:45 PM

yeah, I usually do daily too but recently have switched to weekly for reasons you mentioned - triggering a binge. however i find i've gained and i think this is partly the reason....back to daily!

thanks guys

I weight myself daily. Sometimes it can be
frustrating and other times it can be great.

Weekly. Fluctuations bother me too much. Sometimes I've weighed twice weekly (an "official" and an "unofficial" weigh in), but I try to stick to once a week. When I get to goal, I plan to weigh a little more often, just to stay on track. I don't think the fluctuations will bother me as much then, as long as I stay within a certain range.

I weigh myself after every workout, whether that's once or twice a day or only once every other day. I usually only record my first weight of the day as the official one for that day.

I'll also weigh on my Wii Fit if I do a body test, but those weights never get recorded and don't count. I only count the weight I take on my bathroom scale for consistency's sake. My Wii Fit weight is almost always off in one direction or the other.

I weigh in the morning and at night and sometimes once or twice more during the day. I've learned a lot about my body by doing this—including not to panic when my weight is up but I have been eating on plan.

I weigh 2x a day and record the morning number daily. I also feel I have learned about my body and its fluctuations. I never get upset about it. The only thing I can control is my habits. I weigh daily because otherwise, it's way too easy for me to get complacent and eventually I'd be too likely to forget about my goals. There's no hiding from the number on the scale :)

FatPantsSkinnyJeans 11-10-2010 05:29 PM

1-2x day, but I only record the morning, naked-after peeing one!

LindseyLou 11-10-2010 05:35 PM

I WAS weighing myself daily, but I was driving myself crazy with the tiny fluctuations, so now it's weekly! :)

I used to weigh irregularly. Then I read the Beck Diet Solution and one of her recommendations is to weigh daily to get used to the fluctuations and to diminish the scale number's power. I started doing that and it does make a big difference. Seeing the daily bumps up and down is hilarious! (I will post my chart if I even make my goal) But if I squint I can see the gentle downward trend, at least since I got "serious".

I'm not sure what I will do if/when I consider myself done trying to lose weight. I wish I didn't have to think about my weight. But experience has taught me that I do.

You're absolutely right!! here's mine over the last 2 months. You can see I'm all over the place, but the downward trend is obvious. Even though I'm losing weight slower than molasses, I am losing and I'm ok with that because I know I can live like this for the rest of my life :D

Nice trend, Pinkflower!

I weigh every day. Once in a while I don't get to -- like if we have houseguests, and the baby wakes up at 5 and he's crying, I'll grab him ASAP and then head downstairs, and by the time I get upstairs again I've eaten, and I typically don't weigh after eating. I hate those days. I feel more settled when I've weighed. The fluctuations don't bother me, but they help set a tone for the day.

pammi2003 11-10-2010 08:53 PM

Once a week for me.

matt_H 11-10-2010 08:59 PM

Twice a day. The morning weight after hitting the loo is the "official" daily weight and the night time weight just gives me some indication of what the morning weight will be. I usually drop 3 or 4 pounds overnight.

Eliana 11-11-2010 08:23 AM

Daily, and this is the reason I have full confidence in maintenance. I can not bury my head in the sand if I weigh every day.

EmmaD 11-11-2010 11:23 AM

Hey PinkFlower, you inspired me to post mine!

OK, I'm laughing. Here's my recent chart, since I started weighing almost every day. The recent flat part (slightly up... ) is when I was away and didn't want to record weights from a different scale... It was the end of August when I "got serious" and it shows - I finally dropped below 140 and never went back except one day @ 140.2, haha. And it looks like I freaked over seeing that number and got "even more serious" since I had a good drop after that.

Weighing everyday provides me with the entertainment of charts such as these. I need all the entertainment I can get with this comically slow process. :joker:
