Bikini after 40? Need advice on this issue!

Hello, just starting on this web site and love it so far!!!
Anyway, I have a question, I never used a bikini when I was younger mostly because of self-esteem issues. Now at 45, and after loosing almost 35 pounds :carrot:, I am considering whether or not it would be appropiate for me to wear one. My husband is all for it, so that it not an issue!!
It would be nice to hear what others have to say on this...

Thx,

Caribbean Girl

squishysquirrel 05-20-2010 05:57 PM

If you can rock the bikini, do it!

jkinboston89 05-20-2010 06:58 PM

I TOTALLY say go for it! I've seen many women in that age range look absolutely FABULOUS! If you've got it, flaunt it ;)

MissKelly 05-20-2010 07:10 PM

Definitely, go for it ....and congrats! If you take a quick drive over to the beach, you'll be pleased to see that many fit women up into their sixties are wearing them...and they look great. I'm over on the mid-lower Gulf coast of FL, but I can't imagine it's any different over across the way from here. Have fun! :)

Absolutely! Age does NOT matter - go for it!!

ange82much 05-20-2010 11:16 PM

Another agree here.

I'm 42 and prefer bikini's on me - i think they look heaps better than a 1-piece and much more convenient.

ElanaRose 05-21-2010 06:46 AM

Do it! :D My mom is about the same weight as you, and she can rock a bikini at 48!

bama girl 05-21-2010 09:50 AM

Do it! You are so gorgeous-- you don't look anywhere NEAR 40!

Shannon in ATL 05-21-2010 10:41 AM

Absolutely do it! You are beautiful, so rock it.

I wore my first one last summer and I'm 38. I got one from Victoria's Secret, and love it.

maenad 05-25-2010 07:58 AM

go for it!!!! I'm sure you look absolutely amazing!

I always feel really self conscious when i wear one, and if this is your first time, then bring a back up to cover up if you feel the need.

girl81 06-02-2010 06:49 AM

I say wear it only if you feel most comfortable in it. If you can't wear it around the house vacuuming or dancing, I'd reconsider.

I bought a two-piece for the first time in years. I had to order it specially because I need a lot of support on top and couldn't find anything local. Those flimsy "shelf bras"? Please. My new swimsuit hasn't arrived yet so I don't know how it will look, but it's just for wearing in the hot tub with my girlfriends from work so it should be fine. I wouldn't mind a one-piece but my torso is so long that they never fit correctly....I always feel like they're not long enough.

So we shall see how comfortable I feel! But I definitely intend to wear it if it fits.

lackadaisy 06-03-2010 12:40 AM

Dissent: I'm not a fan of bikinis... I just think they look generally unflattering and can be a bit tacky. If you feel comfortable in one, age shouldn't cause you to reconsider one way or another. But a classy, sexy maillot (anthropologie has some spectacular ones) might be a better way to go.

I'm not even of drinking age, yet, if that matters. I bought my first bikini two months ago and regret it immensely.

Appreciate everybody's feedback. I haven't made out my mind yet and anyway have a few more pounds to go....

souvenirdarling 06-03-2010 09:11 PM

Buy one you like and wear it twice. Once, to see if you like it, a second time just to make sure :) The worst that can happen? Haven't we felt shy enough all our lives???

Hello everybody, just wanted to share a new milestone in my weight loss journey. A couple of months ago I was debating whether or not I should allow myself to use a bikini. I've never worn one before so I felt hesitant to start now.
After loosing 40 pounds in a little less than a year and getting great support from so many of you as well as my husband, I decided to go for it!!! :carrot:
So I am sharing a few recent pictures(including one on my brand new bikini!!).
I have another 5 pounds to lose, but I felt confident enough to do it. :D

Thx 3FC members for you amazing support!
