I think this is where I belong?...

  • Hi everyone.

I posted on the 30 somethings but I think I belong here, I hope that's OK.

Well I havent been on here in a while. You see I was on here about 1.5 years ago and during that time I was pretty healthy and on my way to my goal weight. Then I got the 'flu'. I was sick and feeling so blah that I had to stop my spinning classes. I couldnt eat well, the only thing i could keep down was carbs!!! Nightmare, well little did I know...I was Pregnant!

So here I am, my son is a gorgeous 7 month old and I need to loose 15 lbs to get back to where I was. Up till now the weight came off all by itself but I think I need to get serious about these 15 lbs.
I have been calorie counting and taking loooong walks with some intensity but I just bought a jogging stroller so I hope to make some good use of it

I hope to get to goal by the time I have to return to work (October 1st) so I dont have to buy new work pants LOL!!

I am not sure where to set my calories to for 1-2 pound loss per week?

Well, hope everyones having a great weekend.
  • Hi there! I'm new here and also looking to re-lose about 25 lbs. Are you nursing your baby? I'm using the zig zag, UDDDD, or whatever you want to call it type of eating to help me break through these hard to lose, end of the road, pounds.
  • Congrats on the baby! Aww he's gorgeous .

You definitely belong here. 12 pounds isn't much to lose, and I know that sometimes on other boards you can feel a bit guilty that you goal is nearer than the others.

I aimed for 2 pounds a week, but in the first 4 weeks I lost 11 pounds. I think it's because maybe at the beginning you lose water retention or something sciencey that I don't really understand!

I aimed for 1200-1300 calories a day, as anything less your body thinks it is the starvation zone and this way I would lose 1.9 lbs a week. (all going well)

I went to a site, which also syncs to iPhone/Blackberry, that works this all out for you:
    www[dot]mynetdiary[dot]com

(sorry I haven't made enough posts yet to post links)

As you are a little taller you may be able to eat more to lose the same amount.

I hope this is all helps, and best of luck xxx
  • thanks for the support.
I am not nursing anymore so that's why I decided to start concentrating on loosing this weight. Before, I htink that nursing helped A LOT, but in the last month (since I stopped) I haven't lost at all. Since starting to count calories about 1-2 weeks ago I have lost 3 pounds and FINALLY broke through the 150lbs mark. I was hovering around there for a while. I havent see a 150 in over a week phew!

I have been eating about 1200 cals a dat too.
Oh and about my height, I've always said I was 5'7" but it could be in between 5'6" and 5'7"? Not totally sure.

Anyways, I went off plan last night due to our Lost Finale party but it wasnt that bad, could have been worse and I'm not up any on the scale

When do you ladies weigh in? Once a week?
  • I found a May weight loss challenge on the Chicks up for a challenge thread that I joined this morning. I'm still figuring out which thread I want to be a part of; there are so many! This is a great weight loss site as far as that's concerned. There are so many options available for everyone. I also offered to do a weekly weigh-in with another lady on another thread who said she thought that she might be the only one there weighing in at this point. I have no idea which thread it is that she was talking about and I'm not sure if she has replied to my e-mail yet. I'm also in the Making it to goal- 4th of July challenge. I'd be happy to see you on any of those weigh in threads.
  • Still Trying, I think you are smart to work on your weight before you go back to work. I'm a stay-at-home mom, and though sometimes (most of the time?) I feel like this and there's a lot of this , one of the benefits is that I can almost always fit in a workout as long as I make it a priority.

My jogging stroller was one of my best purchases ever! My husband was really hesitant to buy it because I can be a little phase-y with my workouts (we had an aerobic step that I used every day for about a week... and then never again). But my jogger has a lot of miles on it -- we've used it to train for 5Ks, 10Ks, a half marathon (me) and a full marathon (DH). We have a double-jogger, too, though I must admit I use it more for walking than running -- it's heavy with two kids in there!

I average 1700 calories a day. I run 4-6 miles 3x/week and work out at the gym (elliptical, stairmill, bike, kickboxing, etc) 2x/week. Besides that, I'm generally active (chasing kids, walking to/from school, carrying huge laundry baskets up & down two flights of stairs) so I've had good results at that level (I lost 3 lbs in 3 weeks before counting calories, and 6 lbs in 3 weeks once I started counting calories).

Minichick, I vary my calories to accommodate my lifestyle. I eat fewer calories on days I eat 3 meals at home (most days) so that I can go out to eat without sweating every bite. I still choose carefully when I eat out and focus on eating reasonable portions, but if I eat 1500 calories/day at home I have a few hundred extra to play with when I go out. But my variations aren't huge -- my lowest day was 1400 calories.

    Welcome, ladies! Best of luck!
  • thesame7-
thanks for the welcome. It's been soooo hot here the past few days so my jogger has only seen the pavement (other than walks) once :S
I am intending to start C25K soon.
Kudos to you for being able to be so active, and with 2 kids!!!
I am slowly finding the balance with my little guy. I was very very active before becoming a mommy and I must admit that I found it difficulty when I couldn't continue the way I had always been (go to the gym when I wanted, no worries about baby and feedings, shower after a workout LOL).

When do you get to the gym? Is it after work when hubby comes home?
  • OK, I keep seeing all you Canadians talking about how hot it is. How hot can it possibly get in Canada?

Good for you for doing C25K! I always recommend that program for people who are interested in running, building cardio, etc. It's great!

Actually, I have 3 kids! My daughters are 6 and 4, and my son is 17 months. My gym has really good child care, so I go in the mornings after one or both girls are in school (my 4-yr-old is in preschool three days a week -- but today is the last day!). My son hasn't always liked it. He went through a phase at about 13 months where he couldn't stand to be apart from me, even at home. So I didn't go to the gym for a while in February or March. By April he was doing better (the beautiful thing about children's phases -- they pass!) and now he has so much fun there I can get a workout and a shower and he is still smiling and playing when I pick him up.

If I run with the stroller, I usually go around 9, after both girls have left for school, but now that DD#2 will be home every day, and it's getting hotter (in the 90s yesterday) I will probably run with him in the eaaaarly morning -- 5:30 or 6. He's up anyway! My husband tries to help me find time to work out, but his work schedule is brutal.

My plan for the summer is to run early in the morning a few times a week and go to the gym (probably in the afternoons) a few times a week. I might try to swim after the kids have gone to bed -- we have a neighborhood pool that is open until 9. Whatever happens, I'll report back here!

Hopefully the weather gets better and you get to break in that stroller soon!

PS - your son is adorable! Nice pic!
