Happy Friday!
OK. HOW does she do it? The Feeder continues to find new ways to foil a diet!!! She has been the one who keeps our kitchen fridge stocked with Coke, Pepsi, etc. These are things which everyone but me uses and enjoys--no problem. I stick to black coffee or bottled water--which she also orders for us. [courtesy of our employer] This morning she sent us an email saying that the company wants to cut costs so both the COFFEE and the WATER will be discontinued!!!!! Not the soft drinks, not the hot chocolate, not the wine, not even the champaign [I kid you not here]--- just coffee and water. Her comment? : "You'll just have to learn to drink pop like the rest of us". AAAAaaaarrrrggggh! :bomb: Spanx |

Spanky ... it think with the current movement toward healthier workplaces, you should address this. There certainly should be water for you to drink. If the company is going to provide anything, it should be healthy.

The fridge is still stocked with the bottled water--only it's to be offered to guests only at this site. So I'm being naughty: my move has been to keep refilling the last bottle I had. Now she keeps checking the fridge to count the guest bottles to see if I'm swiping them. Indoor sport at it's finest!:D
This weekend we were out at our lake place and I ate on plan but didn't drink enough. Trying to make up for that today and get back to normal. Mental note: bring enough fluids on those weekends. Happy Monday! spanky |

spanky -- can't believe no water but champagne at the office? I want to come work there LOL! Glad to hear you are finding ways to circumvent the Feeder.
So Tuesday is my weigh in day -- hate it! Lost 0.5 lb so that is OK but just back to where I was two weeks ago. Losing only 2.5 lbs in four weeks seems really little progress to me, but I'm trying to be positive because I don't think it would be healthy for me to cut calories further or to work out more. This week I'm cutting out wine :( -- my last remaining vice -- to try to speed things up. Still, again trying to be positive, it looks like my waist and hips are each down 1 inch. On the other hand my bust is up 1 inch but this leads me to believe I'm holding water/bloated, so hoping a few pounds of water weight will go away soon. |
Hi everyone. I'm new. I started at 136/7, then quickly dropped 7/8 pounds (at one point the scale was clearly below 129). But now it's getting harder b/c the first 7 pounds, I could still eat "healthy" chocolate chip cookies (from recipe from superfoods RX--w/dark choc, walnuts & oatmeal, but a butter/sugar/flour base--so still very yummy). I actually think I was eating much more when I was losing (following whole foods diet). Then I started eating smaller portions and this week I GAINED 1.5 pounds--even though I was exercising like crazy and still eating very healthy. The only addition was Newman's Own Light Balsamic Vinaigrette to my salads (when I started, I was eating veggies steamed in chicken broth instead).
So I'm pretty bummed about the weight gain but still really hoping to lose 10 (or, now 11) pounds. I was eating watermelon and strawberries for dessert for a week or two, but I *really* crave my evening cookies. Otherwise I don't have much trouble sticking to the eating plan, even on weekends. It's just those darn dat-blasted cookies that kill me!! (Oh, yeah, and the dressing, but THAT I can live without). |
Hi,
On plan so far today. Also walked the Skywalk for 25 min at lunch. Trying to avoid the 12" x 12" x 2" chunky brownie that has appeared on the kitchen counter here at work. Gritting my teeth until quittin' time! Welcome Determined! spanks |
Determined, :welcome2:
I'm really struggling today but I know it's only head hunger so I'm trying to ignore it. Had a 12 hour work day am too tired (mentally more than physically) to do any exercise. This is when it's dangerous :( |
Thanks for the welcomes!
Spanky and Doughnut,
Thank you very much for the welcomes. I don't know what happened, but I got on the scale today and my weight was down 3 pounds!! Also, I discovered a great substitute for salad dressing. I used to eat 2 TBSP of light newman's own balsamic and I thought that might have caused my weight gain. So I switched to lots of lemon juice, salt, pepper, and just 1/2 TBSP of the dressing. It tastes really yummy and lots less fat calories. Doughnut--please get some sleep. Too hard to ignore food when too tired. |

Ilene -- you sound amazingly fit, very inspiring! spanky -- you must have great will power, brownies are so tempting for me! I'm finally making some progress with water weight/bloating going away. This is going to be a long haul but I'm sticking with it. I'm down to a Normal BMI vs Overweight the last few days. Unfortunately my body fat % is still 35.5% which I've seen described as Obese. I'm really small boned and I've calculated my lean body mass at only 88-89 lbs. My target is to get my body fat down to 25% which would put me at 118. Have a great weekend everyone! |
JayJay,
I'm definitely not a weight loss expert, but I just cannot imagine that 140 pds is obese--no matter what your body composition. And how are you measuring your body fat? I've heard those scales that distinguish aren't always reliable--that the only reliable method is being weighed in water (which I've never done). I wouldn't worry about labels. Just eat healthy and exercise, the rest will follow. One time I gained a LOT of weight for me (my weight was about 150). This was about 15 years ago now. It was caused by anti-depressant meds (which thankfully I do not need at this point in my life). But, anyway, I stopped taking the meds, yet I still had the weight and couldn't lose. I didn't focus much on the number, labels, or anything. I just reverted back to my formerly healthy lifestyle (exercise, eating healthy). I just figured that was the lifestyle for me no matter what my weight. I didn't even really check the scale. I'm not even sure when I dropped the weight, but it seems like it was not too long before I weighed 120 again using that mindset. Labels are depressing. :( Good luck. |
 I'm new here and I'm trying to get back on track with eating healthy and after a recent 10 pound gain I'm trying to lose 20 pounds. Looking forward to chatting with ya'll!!

Good morning girls
On the subject of BMI... Sometimes BMI can be misleading if you are a very fit or athletic person... My BMI is very high also, 27, but I wear a size 8... I don't feel that's overweight ... So we have to be careful... According to the calculator I should weigh 140 lbs to be a healthy weight...well I would be very petite at that weight and quite muscular which wouldn't be a bad thing  but I have the darndest time getting there... I haven't been at that weigth in 19 years, since DD was born  ... but one could only hope... Here's a calculator Now I've got to get back to work...:comp: |
Per the calculator my current BMI is 23.4
Once I get to my goal weight it will be 20.4 Both fall into the Normal weight category. My current one is just a little bit close to overweight for me. At my current weight I wear a 8/10 and at my goal weight I wear a 6/8 which is exactly what I want. :) |
Melly83 -- welcome!
Determined Woman -- yes you are so right...I should forget about labels or categories but sometimes I find it motivating too! I'm using a Tanita scale to measure body fat but I'm sure it's not very reliable. I would love to do the water measurement someday to get a reality check. Ilene -- thanks for the calculator! I agree that these things can be misleading depending on individual build and muscle tone. Just makes it much more confusing for me to really figure out what is a healthy weight for me...I guess I will just play it by ear and see when i feel "right." |
Yep, I think I read somewhere that BMI is definitely not accurate for athletic people. I think it said that waist to hip ratio (or some other ratio I can't remember) was a much better indicator of fitness/health.
But whatever motivates you is great. For me, it was the number on the scale--that simple. Someone convinced me to stop weighing myself a couple of years ago (said it was too obsessive). Then I got injured from running and had a couple of very stressful life years to boot. When I finally decided to step on a scale, I was honestly mortified. I thought of myself as a thin healthy runner, but the number simply was not consistent with my thought. For anyone reading, I would definitely vow to never, ever stop weighing yourself--at least once a week. One really easy thing to do if you just can't break from unhealthy foods is to eat healthy all day, then skip dinner and eat a relatively healthy dessert (only) instead of dinner. Might be crazy but has helped me, I think. |
Determind Woman - I'm the same way. I always end up gaining weight when i don't weigh myself every day. The scales seem to be my conscience. And I know some people would be mortified at the thought of me weighing myself every morning but different things do work for different people.
I love the eating a healthy dessert for supper. Maybe I need to try that. Does ice cream count?? :) |
I have been weighing everyday too even though I officially record my progress only once a week. I hate the daily weight in -- like today i'm up 1 lb for no reason. Still, I think it keeps me in touch with what's happening. I find if I don't weigh regularily the weight can creep up. I guess what ever works is good. Like today I will exercise more than I planned because of the extra 1 lb -- even though I know it's probably just bloating it will motivate me to do more cardio.

Hello feathers  I seem to be doing quite well at the moment. I've dropped almost a pound a week on 1400-1500 cals per day and precious little exercise so that makes me happy. Had a weird moment a few minutes ago. I was nosing around the kitchen for "something" because I've had 1300 cals today and can afford something else. I then realised that I'm absolutely stuffed. Tha wouldn't normally stop me :o but I thought about it and realised that if I'm ever going to permanently shift these pesky extra 15-30 yo yoing pounds I'm going to have to make some lifestyle changes. Eaing when I'm not hungry is one of them :)
|
doughnut -- I did the same tonight before coming up for bed, looked in the cupboard, closed it and thought, I'm really not that hungry, go to bed!!
So here I am getting ready for bed, night all  |
I'm a night owl and that gets me in trouble SO MANY TIMES. Obviously when you up late you start getting hungry and late night hunger never leads to anything good. Going to bed is always the better option!
|
I'm so happy because I hit my first milestone of 5 lbs gone! It took me 5 weeks but I think that is a pretty good pace for sensible weight loss. I'm now really excited to tlose the next 5!
|
Question for you featherweights -- do you do planned "cheating"? I told myself that if I lost 5 lbs I could get a bacon cheese burger. But now that I've actually lost the weight I'm not sure I want to offset my progress with all those calories and fat. Not sure what to do?
|
jayjay77 - Nope don't do it. I used to use food as a treat when I lost a certain amount of weight. And then I was like, why am I doing this?? It makes no sense to allow myself to eat something unhealthy as a prize for losing weight. Go ahead and treat yourself. Buy a movie, a book, get a manicure but don't use food as a weight lose treat.
|
Melly83 -- thanks! That's good advice. I think I'll get a pedicure instead.

Ladies, I need your support and I need ideas! Yesterday I purchased hotel and flight reservations for our trip to Grand Cayman for my friends wedding, leaving on November 4th (68 days away! not that I'm counting or anything!) and I SOOO want to be bikini ready by then! I really only need to lose 10-12 lbs. I go walking/jogging every morning for 2 - 4 miles (30min to an hour) :running:, depending on my schedule and how hot it gets outside! I do this EVERY DAY because I know if I skip a day, it will turn into two, three, then 6 months! I seriously need to find some alternate outdoor workout ideas before I get bored to death! 1) What are some of your favorite outdoor activities and why do you love them? 2) And does anyone have any favorite workout moves and why do you love them? Please help keep me on track to rock the bikini!
Thank! Amy |
if in your neighbourhood there is an outdoor pool... you might try swimming!
:swim: So you can also get a little bit of tan ;) I like it a lot because it's very relaxing and when I do it I REALLY see a difference on the scale (and it doesn't make me more hungry). At the beginning swimming seemed hard and annoying, but I just had to get used to it, little by little, and now I really enjoy it :carrot: |
Doughnut -- thanks for your experience. At some point I will have to take a "break" from dieting, just trying to do it in a way that's responsible. I think it will take me 5-6 months to get to my target and that seems like a really long time to be 100% good.
Julietta -- I love swimming too! Just wish I had regular access to a pool! I spent a week in Vegas in April and went swimming every day and it was fantastic! ShrinkingAmy -- ditto Julietta's suggestion for swimming, also biking. Do you do any sports? I'm terrible at sports but I took tennis lessons not too long ago and it was fun to just get out there and try to play. I'm more of an indoor workout person. I love the AC in the gym LOL! I also do workout's with dumbells and DVD's for yoga and pilates at home plus go to a yoga class weekly. |
Amy your stats show that you are 5'7" @ 135, which is a really nice weight to start IMHO... My suggestion would be to start weight training it would give you tone and definition, along with a tan you'd wow  everyone at that wedding... If you're a member at a gym all the better, if not there are a lot of at home workouts just using body weight to start you off, just Google it.
Things are good at this end of the world... Gotta go I'm at work... |
Thanks Julietta, Jayjay, and Ilene, I was thinking of incorporating some strenth training - i have small weights here at home that I can use - not a member of a gym yet. I'd love to swim... maybe I can borrow the pool at my in-laws community! Unfortunately our neighborhood doesn't have one. And I have a few dvd workouts (several, actually!) that I was thinking of dragging out. I guess you would say I'm "small boned" so 135 isn't as great as it sounds... it's not bad, but not great. I've definitely got the whole "muffin top" and "bingo arms" that I'd love to shed. I'm really not aiming for a 'number' per se but I just want to look fit and toned - although I figure 125 will = tone & fit if I keep working out.
As for today, I didn't do as hot as usual... I only walked 1.25 miles and it was crazy hot out and I was just "over it" so I walked back home. Tonight - since my dvd player is still packed in the basement until I dig it out tomorrow - I figured I'd do some crunches, pushups, and planks to make up for my slacker walk - i need to dig out those weights tomorrow too!. I didn't eat so great today either - ate some so-not-good-for-you potato chips and french onion dip! I was out of all my fruit so that's what I went straight for - so I went to the grocery store to restock on healthy stuff this afternoon - no excuse for the rest of the week! |
ShrinkingAmy -- great job on stocking up on fruit! The DVDs and weights should really help you tone up
So I have a question. I'm on week six of my diet/exercise/weight loss program and I'm experiencing a lot of nausea. Has this happened to you? I had the same issue week 2 which I just chalked up to my body being not used to exercise, but I feel I should have adjusted by now. It could just be the heat and humidity. Of course this makes it pretty easy to stay on diet because I just don't feel like eating LOL. |
