Darn that daylight savings
OK I really need a :kickbutt:.
This is kind of a long explanation but I'll only do it once. I've been really tired all week due to daylight savings time. I normally wake up around 5 a.m. (a type of insomnia called "early morning waking" for which I've tried a gazillion things) so now I'm waking up at 4 a.m After walking all day, doing the chores, feeding the cats, making dinner, and then attending to stuff in my office I'm ready to crash at 9 p.m. DH (who has the opposite type of insomnia and can't fall asleep at night) is ready to party at that time. Since his study schedule is so heavy it's the only time of day we see each other. He wants to sit and watch TV at that time. I keep nodding off so I'm using that as an excuse to eat. If I'm eating I can stay awake. This is just plain wrong. We can't really go out for a walk or work out together 'cause I'm physically so beat. DH doesn't want to do anything like play board/computer games. He also doesn't want to talk about his studies because it makes him feel anxious. And he doesn't want to listen to my day because it's all about dogs. What the heck are we gonna do? I know I have to stop eating in front of the TV (it's an old, old pattern) or I'll regain all the weight I've worked so hard to take off. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Dagmar |
Since I've been off, I've fallen into a pattern of falling asleep around 9-10 and waking shortly before 6. I'm just goin' with it. I've worked shift for over 30 years and know that it takes it's toll. If only for a few short weeks, I'm going to let my body decide what rest I need.
I have two tips for perking yourself up. I had to take a little shopping trip yesterday so I stopped at WalMart and spent some time in the make-up aisle. I only bought lipstick and creme blush (an experiment) but I imagined lots of wonderful things. I also spent some time on utube watch some fella do hair. I have long hair and always wear a ponytail. So I tried some of his suggestions. It was fun and I definitely will wear two of his ideas. Oh he also gave autumn make-up tips. |
Iris, Big ((((( hugs ))))) to you. You haven't thrown in the towel, that's a positive right there!
Julie, I've been known to pick up a couple things at Goodwill to get me through those 8-10 pound losses. That was one non scale victory I had recently. I had found a really cute pair of Union Bay cargo pants at Goodwill last year for only $5, but they were too small. This season I'm wearing them! Dagmar, Well, if it's a "we thing" you're looking for there's usually one thing a guy is always willing to do ;) But seriously, you may just have to do some things just for you and let him veg on the couch if that's what he needs. I like to climb in bed at 9 and read a little. That normally leads to a good night's sleep. Good luck! Kittycat40, Good morning! SusanB, My little trip to W-M on Monday included the moisturizng section. I found some that has a tiny amount of self tanner added. You're suppose to notice a healthy glow after using it for about a week. I am noticing a slight change this morning. I don't look as "fall" pale as I did, but not orangey or anything either. So far I've only been using it on my face, but I'm thinking maybe on my legs too. If I do where a skirt or something maybe I can go w/o hose. |
Dagmar, your body clock hasn't caught up with the time change Give yourself a week or two and u should be more in sync with your husband. I am an early riser , too, I used to fight it but figured out that was my normal body clock at work and decded to "relax and enjoy it".
|
this is a quick post before i'm out the door to do some serious text writing...eek! thanks for the luck lovnmom!
i love your salad idea susanb!! if i ever had enough room in my fridge i would totally do something like that. i definitely believe that if it's easier to eat than i'll eat it. but dagmar, it sounds like if you kept your hands busy while you were up with DH you might stay awake and not eat. Maybe once a week when you are watching tv you could paint your nails or something like that, with wet nails you have to stay awake and not eat. Or you could knit. Or still sit beside him but do crossword puzzles or sudokus or something. Otherwise, you might as well embrace your body's clock for a few days so you can feel rested enough to be a night owl with DH sometimes. |
DS#2 just got out of bed (another shift worker) and announced that my salad bar thingee was one of my best ideas ever. He got home at midnight and messed himself up a salad. Said it was great (and easy).
|
Hmm, Dagmar. Maybe instead of food you could opt for some herbal tea or broth. Can you try to take an afternoon nap so you can stay awake a little longer in the evening? That's what I would LOVE to do myself, but don't actually have the time, so I end up going to bed at about 9 PM and I get up at 4:30 to do my exercises.
|
Hi Feathers!
Dagmar, for a very long time I had to stop drinking tea with DH b/c it always involved sweets. I really like the painting nails idea. Carey good luck with your school work. I don't miss those stresses. But I do like to stretch my brain a bit. After you get all your degrees it is nice to stretch the brain w/o worrying about grades. lovnmom, some of the cub scouts around here (NJ) are stricly father/son. others are more inclusive. we opted out this time around. iris-- so many sales coming. old navy has a big one starting this friday! I am so headed there. 1/2 off all winter gear. Susan-- love the salad bar thing. I've thought of it but never actually did it. good for you! I'm having a better day. NJ has no school for today and tomorrow so I did power sculpt on exercise tv with my twin 4 year olds and my 6 year old. super cute and a nice workout! (I was the only one with hand weights ;)) Kitty |
Just popping in to say hello
Boy, this sure has been a busy board the last couple of days. It took me forever to get caught up :dizzy: I've been pretty busy the last couple of days. As some of you know, I work from home now and most of the time, I'm pretty slow. But the last couple of days have been crazy. I haven't even been able to take my walk. Well things should slow down tomorrow, so I'll get back on that . Susan B-That salad bar is a great idea. I used to do that too. Maybe I'll have to start doing that again. It is alot easier when it's all cut up. Hope everyone's having a good week! |
Carey, I really like the painting your nails idea too.
Kitty, 12 - 13 years ago when my children were small I would do Richard Simmons videos. They loved to dance and sing the 50's songs! abbyin, Hope you're caught up soon! No yoga after all today, but a friend did stop by and away we went for a 4 mile walk. Being back OP feels so good. Thanks for all the encouragement! |
Hi Abby, I am really in need of giving and getting support right now, so I'm thinking we'll get to know each other a bit. nice to meet you.
Today started strong but took a deep nose dive. Tomorrow I have a long run planned so I am looking forward to that. Then I NEED to get the Halloween candy OUT OF MY HOUSE. And I don't know how to do that b/c my children have been told they can eat one per day. (at the rate I'm tucking into them they will be gone by the end of the weekend.) I want to report tomorrow evening with an OP at the end of my post!! be well, Kitty Thoughts, chicks, on how to satisfy my need to eliminate the candy and my kids' plans to enjoy them over time?? |
yeah, this board is busy...this is how i remember it though. busy boards seem to attract more people and then they just get busier. i like it :)
kitty, you could get your kids to keep their candy in their room or room you don't usually go in because if it's out of sight it's usually easier to keep out of mind. plus, if you realize that you are going hunting for it maybe it's enough time to make yourself stop. |
Quote:
Even if they can't be allowed to keep it in their rooms, at least package it up with their name on it. If they're keeping a large amount that you expect to be around for months, consider letting them keeping it in some cheap lock box ;). You can keep the box to control how much they eat, they can keep the keep to keep you out of it. |
Quote:
Right now the pillow cases (each bag known to its owner) are in the basement fridge. all too reachable. |
Quote:
but I do use some cabinets in the basement as a pantry. actually, that's where I hide my trader joe's dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts from myself-- pretty successfully, I might add ;) OK, plan as posted above... to be stored in basement pantry behind very closed doors. This might work, chicks. |
[QUOTE=JulieJ08;2441922 Maybe let them "sell" it back to you if you want it, by doing their chores for them. That oughta give you pause when you're craving it ;).
QUOTE] That's brilliant! I love it! I'm going to apply this (in a very general way) to my eating in front of the TV. Now I just have to figure out the specifics! I love this place - so many people with great ideas! Dagmar (can you tell it's Friday?) :yay: |
It's lovely to see this thread nice and busy!
Morning everyone! DH and I are some of the adult leaders at a Youth Retreat this weekend then we're off to see the grandbaby on Sunday. Monday I go back to the surgeon and the rest of my plain-old-me life goes on. |
Hi Everyone,
Room for one more? I'm needing a daily check-in place. I don't think I've posted in Featherweights before. I never really thought of myself that way, but it sounds kind of nice, lol. I just started looking around and it seems like the right place to be. I'll give you the short version of my story. I'm a SAHM. I've always had weight issues, but I've maintained fairly well in recent years. In the past year though, I'm really struggling to just maintain. I think part of that is age and part is self-control and bad habits. So, I am trying to really surround myself with all the positive, healthy vibes that I can. When I'm on plan I track my calories and work out. Staying on plan has been harder than it should be though lately. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute and be a cheerleader for all of you when you need it. :cheer: BTW, we have tons of candy still, too! |
Welcome GoGirl!!! :welcome2:
|
Good afternoon ladies
Well, as predicted, work slowed down today and I got my brisk walk in already this morning. Breakfast and lunch have been OP and I think I'll take me a nap this afternoon. Exercise and eating right sure wears me out :faint: Hope everyone else is having great OP day! |
I'm glad you decided on the candy, kitty!!
have a good weekend, susanb! gogirl, there's always room for one more :)..one question though, what's SAHM? 3fc is totally all about acronyms and i get most of them, but not lately apparently. abbyin i love naps. they feel so indulgent. |
Stay at home mom :) (to 2 kids). 4 little letters that say so much! That's what I do and where my life is right now. So, I can totally relate to the candy dilema!
alinnell and sweettalker~thanks for the welcome. |
Hi Feathers!
The candies have all been doled into the containers and I am placing the caps on the tuppers and bringing them all to the basement cabinet. RIGHT NOW. OK, they're in. :) It's my intention to stay away from the sweets. A little detox thing. Hi gogirl, abby, and Carey, Allison, Dagmar and Susan B. Lovnmom, I used to do that richard simmons 50's vid when I was a girl :) I hope everyone is having a good day. My trip to Old Navy got postponed d/t my leaving late then returning late after a run this am. (and a longish shower) Here's hoping the sale is also online ;) |
Kitty, I keep our candy in the freezer that's in the basement. That way I have to be really commited to eating it. I have to be willing first to go get it and then waite for it to thaw. Usually by then I can convince myself it's a bad choice. Now that I've turned the page i see you've made a candy decision and that you've done really well OP today. GFY!
SusanB, Leader at a youth retreat!!! That's no plain ole life. Great job for sharing yourself with our young people. You will never know how much good you've done or how much you've meant to some of them. Excellent choice on how to spend your weekend! GoGirl, Welcome!! I just joined this thread recently myself and you will find wonderful cheerleaders and terrific advice. abbyin, Great job today. Give yourself a pat on the back! My day got off to a late start. I fell back to sleep and awoke 12 minutes before the bus arrived. Of course the boys caught it. They threw on clothes did about a 45 sec teeth brush and an even less hair combing then ran out the door yelling, "I'll eat brkfst at school." Of course the two girls were a different story. I drove them in (4miles) so I used the time to visit my mother and waite for the library to open. Ugh, she was having trouble rectrieving her voice mails on her trac phone. Long story short it took a 50 min phone call with 4 different opperators to get the glitch fixed. But, I now have made it to the library and have some books and I haven't had time to not be OP! There's always that. |
Hi all! I was happy to see 139.8 on the scale this morning. I've been back and forth so much recently though that who knows if it will stick.
I'm proud of myself because work has been extra-stressful the past couple days, and I have NOT eaten junk. They provided lunch for us today from Panera, and I ate a big plate of salad and a couple slices of bread, and drank my water. I completely passed up the cookies, which are usually a huge downfall for me. Yesterday I passed up pumpkin pie, muffins, pastries, and bagels. Woohoo! |
Yeah, Jessica!!!
I was down to 148.5 earlier this week!!! It didn't stick :-( |
Jessica, Yeah you...great job passing up all the sweets.
Allison, You'll get back down again. It's probably just water. Down to 140 myself for the past 3 days. Thinking I'll take the time to change my ticker. I'm off to shop with my DD today. Kohls is having a great sale and she needs a new winter jacket. Yippee, that means I can have her old one. Having good coffee and biscotti when we shop is a tradition for us. Say a prayer I have the skimmed lattee!!! |
a buncha stuff
gogirl :welcome2:
abbyin Sounds like you had a great day OP yesterday :D! SusanB You're an inspiration to so many people :D! Hope you're having fun on the retreat too! kitty Way to step away from/put away that candy ! JessicaYou're doing such a great job staying OP in the face of so much temptation ! Allison Under 150 lbs. is way better than over, yes ? And I am now off to interview with 2 new (temporary) clients, providing some much needed cash for Christmas :D Have a great weekend all! Dagmar :sunny: |

Hi.
|
Hey Ennay! Nice to see you in featherweights, I remember your name from posts a few years ago on 3fc posts.
|
Hey ennay! Are you back at featherweights too?
Dagmar |
Hi Ennay (long time, no see), Susan, Dagmar, Irish, Allison, and everyone!
What a great chatty thread! If Irene shows up, it'll be like old times! It really is great to get on here to post and see such a hearty thread... it inspires me and makes me want to do better! I just got back from a hockey game in the foothills of Virginia to see one of my former players play in her last college game- the drive was absolutely gorgeous. The sky was brilliant blue with a few puffy white clouds, and the trees were the prettiest I have seen in years. The scenery made me feel invigorated and inspired me to take a nice, fast, long walk when I got home. My eating has not been great all week, and I had Taco Bell today, so I am going to have salad tonight (wish I had Susan's salad bar in my fridge!). Reading here is truly inspiring me to focus my goals and do better than I have been - which I very much need to do. Great to see everyone. Let's make it a healthy weekend, girls! |
Hi everyone,
Just a quick note to say hi. had a medium op day. an unexpected piece of ice cream cake at DS's friends bday party-- another attempt to show I am ok in the eating department (which unfortunately carries the great risk of NOT being ok in the eating dept.). followed by a grilled veg salad and one glass of red wine (oops, also had shared fried calamari app w/DH) planning nice run tomorrow am and my DS's 7th bday party. I purposely did not buy ice cream cake-- I looove that stuff. Hey there walking2lose, ennay, and irish. and carey and abby and susan and dagmar and allison and bargoo. whoo. great peeps here. luvnmom, thx for the tip about freezer candy. it won't work for me b/c if I am in THAT zone- frozen candy is good too. the plastic containers behind cupboards is working well thus far. ok chicks, off for pre-bedtime tea with DH. :) |
Dagmar, Good luck with the new clients. Extra cash flow is always welcome!
bargoo, DD and I had a great time shopping. She recently has dropped some weight herself. Making shopping in the junior section at Kohls a breeze rather than a disappointment. We have no real number for how much she's lost, because she's not a weigher. I'm guessing about 15 pounds. This is her first year in high school. Her first year of lunch hour freedom. She doesn't have to be in the cafeteria. She's decided it's easier to take an apple or a yogurt to school for lunch rather than waite in line to eat. This way she has more time for listening to music and hanging with her friends. That combined with PE has netted her a nice easy loss. I'm betting her BMI is right in the middle the healthy range. Anyway, she decided no lunch out that the day's about shopping and hanging with her mom. We drove through McD's I had plain coffe and she had the mocha. Thanks for the extra prayer. It worked! Claire, It sounds like you had a really fun day. What did you coach? My eating wasn't good yesterday either. I don't think my cals were probably too bad, but not one veggie crossed my lips and I only drank 1.5 qrts of water. I must do better to feel better! You are all inspiring me as well. Than you! kittycat, Putting the candy in the freezer doesn't always work for me either. 5 minutes in my pj pocket and most anything is thawed to just perfect. I'm glad you found something that's working for you. Off to Sunday School with my youngest. He's making pizzas with the nicest little old lady at our church today. She has the children help her make them and they sell them to the congregation. She's donating all the money to the free Christmas dinner our church provides. Of course we have an individual one ordered for each of us. At least I ordered mine with a lot of veggies!!! Have a great Sunday chickies! |
I hope everyone has had a good weekend. Mine was busy, but good. I'm looking forward to tomorrow though and getting back to my routine. I'm a routine kind of girl. I do so much better staying on plan during the week. And man, I really need to have a good week.
kittycat40- Those ice cream cakes are scary good. I haven't had one in years, but I rememeber it well. lovnmom-I just went to Kohls the other day with my 15% off coupon. I never get the 20% off coupons. My daughter is still a little young to really enjoy a shopping trip, but I look forward to having those times with her. What great memories you and your daughter will have of your outings! Well, tomorrow I'm starting the day with a power walk with a friend, then planning my week-food plans, exercise plans, grocery list, everything! I really need to have a good weigh in this Friday so I have to re-focus this week. Early bed for me tonight. Maybe a nice, warm chai latte first though-decafe, of course. Have a good evening all~ |
Gogirl, It sounds like you have a well laid plan for today and the week to come.
I too need to get back on track today. I did ok on Sat, but yesterday was a disaster. I think the only things I did right were drinking my water and I ate an apple. The rest was carbs. Not good for me ones. Yummy homemade pizza crust and french bread carbs. I'd better get walking! |
Well I had a good weekend, even dropped a pound, but today was not a good day. I ate lunch and dinner out today, and while it could have been worse, it was not good
Back on track for me tomorrow! |
abbyin, Eating out is always difficult. I can know all the rules, but that doesn't make them easy to follow!
I did much better myself yesterday. I ate plenty of veggies, fruits and dairy. I did treat myself to a tiny serving of chocolate, but after DS's basketball games a little nerve number was in order. Hug a vet! |
