Tips needed please!
Hello
I joined WW yesterday and went shopping, stocked up on WW ready meals and planned for my night out at a Greek restaurant for a family birthday. I had reserved 8 points for dolmades to start, chicken shish and a little rice with salad for main. However the wheels fell off when everyone decided to go for a Meze (5 course meal). I opted in as I didn't want to be the only one having 2 courses and having to wait....a Meze usually takes about 2 hours! Then after the wheels fell off the brakes failed completely as I was poured wine (without asking) and decided that I could walk today to make up for it. I didn't stop at one glass, or 2 or 3 and I had so much food I was stuffed & uncomfortable. Today I have tracked what I can work out from last night and been out for a low point soup shop. I've had a low GI museli and I'm going to get straight back on it as I have no alternative if I want to lose weight again. I'm making lots of nice soups for the week - lentil & spinach, chicken & 0 point curry veg soup. Sorry for this ramble, I'll get to the point! What I want to know is how do you control yourselves on a night out? I am currently studying full time in part time hours and working full time so a night out to me is a night off and I think that is my problem. My assignments are all due in in Sept, so I can afford more time to plan and spend on me......That was one of the reasons I have opted for lots of convenience foods. Sorry this post is so long, but I may as well give you all the background! Oh, I have 14-21lbs to lose Thanks in advance Lou |
Plan ahead. Watch your portions. leave something on your plate. You don't have to eat or drink something just because it is offered.
|
When I go out I eat and drink, in moderation, leave stuff on my plate, eat only a bite or two of the deserts... I make up for it the next day and week by being very careful with portions, drinking lots of water and exercising my brains out  ....
|
Thanks Ilene
The following day I earnt 5.5 points in exercise. I know it isn't much, but it did wonders to my attitude. I have now had 2 successful and low point days so I feel much better and I also feel like I want to do well. I have a wedding to go to on Saturday, so I'll try and do as you advise. Lou |
When I go out to eat, it isnt often but when it comes around I agonise with what to eat, I order a meal that I want, an entree always fills me to a point of being bloated, but I wont leave any(as Im weird about food)
and as I know the meal will do that there is no point in ordering a starter or a desert, and I always stick to diet drinks or water. To make up for it, I do try to eat very low energy before hand and the day after, ie I know me and my bf where goin out to eat for our 6month ann, So that day I had no added sugar jelly (the ones from adsa are great) at 11kcals a serving and 4 servings per packet, I made up a bowl and had it for breakfast/snackin =44kcals also had grapes, I had a low kcal sandwich made with nimble wholemeal bread containing loadsa salad, alil sweet pickle, tomatoes and a lil waferthin ham=150kcals and an apple=72kcals and drank loads of water celery is also great for this. I dont drink alcohol whilst Im out, I dont see the point in drinking unless Im going dancing :) I personally dont like order salads when Im out as they cost the same as most other things on the menu, can be just as bad and never taste how I like, wen say I make em at home... |
Thanks Angeleye
I do like your approach. It sounds like you don't deny yourself when you go out, yet don't go mad either. I must try the 'not drinking, except if I'm dancing' rule! I d need a drink to dance! Good luck on the rest of your journey and congrats on your fab loss so far. It's very inspiring Lou x |
^^)
Cheers! may I ask where you live and how old you are? Im the same way usually I need that drink to really get into the dancing mood although If I'v had a late shift at work and my friends insist on meeting them at a club, Ill drive stright there and not drink, but the music never seems as good! Good Luck too!! ^_^ |
^^
I'm North London (Enfield). I'm 33! what about you fellow Londoner? Lou |
East Ldn, and 22 :)
|
well I'm told I look 22!! (look at me trying to desperately recapture my youth!!)
Seriously well done on your fab loss....only 2lbs to go eh? bet you look fab Lou |
thank you!
Not what I wanna look like totally but weightloss only does so much!! :P I do wanna get down a bit low 1/2stone or so, but hey, we'll see! your doing really well too! I started at 11stone, So I know its properly hard! one little blip aint totally bad, although it disheartens you, well it does me! Now an alcohol blip seems to do alot more damage! even if I only have a few(doubles :P)! |
i do the same as all the others, and I practice practice practice practice at it. I'm getting better with eating out, and you will, too.
|
Alcohol does the same for me. Even if I stuck to my allowance in points on alcohol, I put on. I'm sure it's a false water retention gain though, but it makes me feel rubbish and then affects my attitude to food.

Eating out is alwasy such a challenge, when I do have to go out I do not order a drink for my main meal I do not order anything that has sauce on it or is fried. I will opt for a grilled piece of protien and extra veggies

Personally I see this as a lifestyle change, rather than a diet. I need to work in a way I think I can maintain forever.
I don't go out very often so when I do go out I enjoy myself - I don't go for the worst thing on the menu but I eat what I want to eat and I don't worry about it. I don't drink an awful lot anyway so that helps. Yes, the weight is up the next day but I'm right back on the wagon and last night is forgotten. Sorry - that's not of much help, but I plan on doing this for the rest of my life and this is the way I see it working. So long as it's not all the time, an occasional indulgence doesn't hurt. |
It is a lot of help actually. It's nice to see how others approach eating out. I am out tonight and tomorrow now, but Im driving so won't be drinking. And only tonight is for a meal as well, so I may just slip off home as I have a lot of coursework still to finish.
You are right tho, about it being a manageable lifestyle change. I will get to target, it may just take a few weeks longer at this rate Lou |
^ you was up early :P what do you do?
What are you studying? |
I was up early as I like to walk 5k before I start my studies!!
I am in my final year of an Env Health Degree. All my coursework is due in on 2nd Sept, and then I can really focus on the 'diet'. I'm currently off work (work full time as a Health & Safety Officer!) on leave, to get these darn things finished. I am relying on ready meals and soups so far, and I have an early WI tomorrow as I'm at a wedding Saturday when my proper 1st WI is. I don't know if I said earlier or not but I've come from 11st 6....got down to 9st 2 almost at target and then banged on another 1st while I had stressful exams. I was with SW but the 'free food' thing didn't help my appetite. What about you? |
I was in my final year for Applied Biology BSc, but Im a bit stupid so I need to try and hand in a essay tomora aswell as do an exam for the same module on the 27th of this month, I did fail to hand in my final project, not something Im proud of, but I have my excuses, So I'll be going back for another year.
Hopefully I'll only be fulltime for semester A whilst having the one module in semester B(maybe get some training in or full time work aswell as the 2 parttime ones I hold now). I find it harder to 'diet' when Im at home revising and studying, I seem to pick more, not because I hingry, jut out of stress and boredom, I prefer to be at uni(gosh did i just say that!) simply as I cycle there and back and I dont buy food, I take in a certain amount and thats all I have. I wish I have the determination to walk 5K! darn it! I have since friday? been doing a lil exercise vid and trying to 'learn' how to jog, but yesterday I walked to Asda 1st thing to get last min cards for parents ann and this morning I woke up only to go downstairs and fall asleep on the sofa!, so badly no exercise happened today, I have so much to do tomora so I wont be doing a vid or anything, I'll cycle to uni to hand in this essay(hopefully Ill complete it) then cyce to work in the afternoon, then home and start preparing for Mum and Dads 25thAnn party for Sat, I'm the one preparing the food and shopping for the fresh stuff that night. You hadn't mentioned your weightloss earlier no, and I didnt really understand your S/C/G under your name, lol, I didnt wanna be rude and ask what the 4 sets of numbers were for, well dome on your wkd weightloss, sorry about the gain, I totally know where your coming from! For simple and easyness sake, I have the low fat soups/weightwatchers/LF double concentrate one and add veggies, another quick meal is a 2 egg ham omelette with a bag of microwave veggies. or sometimes I put loads of frozen veggies in a pot on the hob, sometimes I add a cubed potato boil, add curry paste/powder and cook till (well i like em mushy) drain and eat a bowl of those. Sorry if what I typed wasnt fully understandable, I havent checked it! Im back to the grind stone! break a leg! |
It is tough and if you're anything like me then I try and do everything as 'perfect' as possible and end up scared to do anything.
Good luck with the essay. I have deferred my dissertation, I just couldn't get everything in by Sept. Anyway, sorry to confuse you! I have now tweaked my profile and included lbs to make it easier for everyone to understand. I had 4 stages as my final goal seemed too far away. I've also added a picture of me at a magazine photo shoot when i HAD lost 34lbs. Unfortunately a fair few are back on - and I wasn't even at goal in that pic! Anyway, I really am very off-topic now from my original Q, but thanks for all the food tips and ideas. Lou |
Wow you look absolutely FREAKING AMAZING!
I can see now why people say you look younger than you are! |
*blush* thanks
I just want to discover those collar bones again! |
