haven't been around much, but my bf was here and fixed my computer so it's up and i have internet and a little bit of time again.

i have to agree with hiding your eating being a bad thing - even when you're not outwardly "hiding" it as much as eating certain things or certain amounts of things only when alone. i'm struggling with a binging problem and a big help for me is to be around people when i eat. my bf was here for the past few days and i did not binge at all - i'm doing field work during the day so i packed my lunch that i ate in the field (nothing else available!) and then i had dinner with him. now that he's back home it's much more of a struggle for me with eating. yesterday i slipped a little but didn't fully "binge" as i have in the past.

anyway, hope you are all doing well and i'll check in again soon!

I have had issues w/ eating alone as well in college.....instead of going to lunch with my friends, a lot of days I would get a bag lunch from the cafeteria and take it back to my room so I could "eat in peace." The problem with that was that I would choose the unhealthiest options - chips, cookies, sandwiches with tuna or chicken salad - and I would almost always get sick from it. I did it almost every day despite the fact that my body hated it, and it makes me really sad to see how I disrespected my body like that by putting crap into it basically.

Some days, when I knew my roommate wouldn't be there, I would stay in my room all day doing homework, eating very little to nothing. Then around dinner or later in the evening, I would buy a pint of B&J or Haagen-Dazs and eat nearly the entire thing in one sitting. I told myself it wasn't "that bad," because I hadn't consumed a lot of calories that day....except there are 80g or so of fat in one container! :( Luckily I have moved past that, and know that eating in secret is never a good idea. What keeps me from eating the bagels and donuts at work is the thought that I KNOW I will feel gross and guilty afterward, so I just don't do it.

Can I just say:

OMG I'M IN THE 140s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

149.7 this morning!!

Hwever, don't know when I'll see it again as I'm going out for a meal tonight with my new fella so it'll prob be up tomorrow. But with this psychological boost of being in the 140s, I shall try very hard not to be a pig.

walking2lose 06-20-2008 09:35 AM

Robsia -- WAY TO GO, GIRL!!!!! It's been exciting to watch your steady loss! I know you will keep up the excellent work!!!

Kimberly - It sounds like you are doing much better with your food choices now. I think most of us went through some pretty horrible eating (and DRINKING) choices in college... it's great you have awareness of it now!

walking2lose 06-20-2008 09:42 AM

Oh, yeah. I am down a lb today. I really want to see a solid 142 next Friday and then I hope to see 140 soon after. 130s here I come!

I gotta stay disciplined and focused!

Loveliam 06-20-2008 10:05 AM

I lost my first 15!!!!! :cb: :cloud9:

Iris- I am glad you are back online. I have missed your posts!

Kim - I can relate so much to a lot of what you are saying.

Robsia: :cheer: :bravo: WTG!!!! Awesome on being in the 140s.

walking2lose: :cheer: WTG on the pound loss! :cp:

Wow. We are a bunch of losing chicks today. :high: I am ecstatic about my first 15 lb loss. My reward will be a pedicure on Tuesday :)

DS and I are going to the zoo today. Should be fun. Also, I could not walk this morning because DH left very early again. But I will either dance or walk if it is cool enough when he gets home.

walking2lose 06-20-2008 11:57 AM

Yea, Leigh!!!

iriswhispers 06-20-2008 12:56 PM

robsia, claire, and leigh - WOOHOOOOO for the losses!! =)

kitegirl, i used to do that too. somehow i convinced myself that huge amounts of ice cream or cookies or things like that were okay as a meal if i hardly ate anything else during the day. like you, i realize that the calorie numbers may have been all right, but the fat was astronomical!

Kitegirl24 06-20-2008 01:25 PM

Just got back from lunch and had a HUGE (but delicious) salad and a few bites of some bakery cookies....I feel pretty full but will keep it light the rest of the day.

I tried to do my yoga DVD yesterday instead of going to the gym, but it was too fast for me (I couldn't find any routines for beginners at the library). Back to the gym today! :)

I also decided to try the Couch to 5k running plan from coolrunning.com....I started it last summer, but quit for some reason that I don't remember now halfway through. It's a 9-week program, and I have ~10 weeks left of summer, so I'm hoping to get a headstart on running before I leave for Spain. I don't know if I'll get to join a gym there, so I was thinking I could walk/jog around the city/beach in order to stay fit and familiarize myself with the area.

Spoz 06-20-2008 02:36 PM

Well done robsia and leigh! I'm very proud of you both :D  Keep at it girls! I hope I can join in the success in a day or two *fingers crossed*

And Kimberley.. good luck! I find running great for weight loss but I find it so boring I can never motivate myself to do it =/

Loveliam 06-20-2008 04:53 PM

Thanks gals for the warm congratulations :grouphug:

Iris and Kimberly - when I was a lot younger I used to do the same thing where I would starve myself so I could indulge "guilt-free." Uh - I have never had a healthy relationship with food - even when thin.

Kimberly- I have heard of that running plan - a friend of mine used it with great success! I look forward to hearing about your progress with that.

Spoz- Can't wait to congratulate you on your loss soon :)

I have been dong well today. I am making shrimp fajitas for dinner - I pretty much love anything Tex-Mex!

Kitegirl24 06-20-2008 08:53 PM

I went to the gym and did 45 min. of cardio....felt tired today though, and didn't do weights because I wanted to get home and eat dinner. I have an exam tomorrow (similar to the SAT, about 5hrs of reading/math/writing) that's required for teacher certification, so I won't get to the gym until afterwards but it will happen. Wish me luck!! ;)

This upcoming week is "crunch time" since the wedding I am attending is next Sunday....and I want to be able to wear my dress comfortably. The only bad thing about it now is that the straps are too loose (I have really small shoulders) so they keep falling down.....I'm thinking it would probably be okay to just snip them in the back and wear it as a halter, especially since my chest holds it up!

I am going to sit down tomorrow afternoon/evening and devise my new workout plan, since I have been doing random stuff every day and getting a little tired of it. I want to follow a routine that will include the Couch to 5k running plan, strength training, and cardio, alternating in such a way that I don't get tired during the week or overdo it.

What are everyone's weekend plans? Remember to stay on track for the next couple of days!! :)

Loveliam 06-21-2008 09:27 AM

Good Morning!

Kimberly- Can you have the straps altered a bit? I bet you will fit into the dress without a problem :)

No big weekend plans so far. It is rainy today so no walking. Well, I may take today and Sunday off - I normally take two days off a week, Sunday being one of them because I am going to church, etc. on Sundays.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

iriswhispers 06-21-2008 01:56 PM

kimberly, enjoy the couch to 5k plan! i agree w/ spoz that running is GREAT for weightloss. i used to run 2-3 miles a day and could pretty much eat whatever i wanted and not gain weight... i should get back into that!!

leigh, i love tex-mex too. i'm very excited to be moving to the southwest in a few months because of all the great food that isn't as common on the east coast!

i hope the weekend is going well for everyone. this is my weekend to work so i'm on 3-11 pm today and tomorrow. i just have to get myself into bed as soon as i get home instead of into the fridge!

Kitegirl24 06-21-2008 05:02 PM

Iris - eating what I want and not gaining weight.....sounds like a great plan to me!!! That's what my dad was like too, when he was younger.

Leigh - I could have the straps altered, not sure what I want to do yet. I'm just focused on looking the best I can in it right now! :carrot: If I reach my goal, I might treat myself to a mani/pedi next Saturday so I look "polished" :)

I am happy to report that I passed my exam with no problems, and got to go to the gym right afterward. My mp3 player's battery died on me though, so I was stuck watching the TV...did upper body weights today, and I can see a little more muscle when I flex! :D

Well, I am off to figure out my workout regimen....wishing everybody an OP weekend!

:dust:
