Foods with zero or VERY few calories
So what do you put in your mouth when you want something but have no calories left?
Give me some ideas. Mine include: Sugar-free jello (8 cals per portion) Sugar free drinks (0) Black coffee/tea (about 4 cals per cup) Sugar-free chewing gum (5 cals per 2 pieces) Water (0) Pickled onions (6 cals per oz) |
Pepperocini. I think they're like 10 calories for three of them (but high in sodium). But I can't say I eat them when I've run out of calories--I eat them when I'm really hungry and the meal is still half an hour or so off! If I'm out of calories for the day, I stick to water.
|
I don't know what they are . . .
|
if it is early in the day, I'll have a diet soda if it is hot and black tea with splenda if it is cold.
At night, I like to have peppermint tea with splenda. If I have a craving for a strong flavor, sometimes I'll have a small pickle (baby dill). |
Pepperoncini are those small spicy green peppers (aka banana peppers or Tuscan peppers).
I would probably just go for a piece of fruit or some veggies, like an apple or a handful of baby carrots. If it was in the evening, I might just have water or tea and go to bed a little hungry. |
I have a container with cut up celery in to keep the munchies at bay. Nice and crunchy too!
|
Carrots,
lifesavers (like 10 cals apiece), diet sodas(I know there is controversy on these, but it does work for me). sugar free jello - but I will add a tablespoon of fat free whip cream. If I have about 100 cals - my favorite - sugar free pudding and some whip cream. OR - I will just occupy myself. Start moving, take a tub, or great suggestion that I got from someone else on 3fatchicks - go read a book in bed. It seems that as soon as I am tucked in and cozy - I'm not hungry - I'm tired. |
Saurkraut, kim-chee, seaweed salad.. All filling, low in calories and high in nutrients. :)
Pickles, generally are almost always zero calories. Raw cucumbers would be very refreshing this time of year in the 95F heat! If you can handle more calories, (like 40), a big hunk of cold watermelon does wonders for eliminating appetite as it's like 99% water. |
.definitely sugar-free jello. .or sugar-free popsicles run about 15 calories each & sugar-free fudgesicles are a real splurge at 40 calories each. .other than that i stick to herbal tea with splenda or crystal light. .most fruits & veggies are a safe bet too, but i stay away from carrots, or super sweet fruits like mangoes - they feel like they're just too much for me. .or sometimes if i'm really desperate ill get a little cup and fill it with light whipped cream & freeze it - i tell myself that its ice cream. .ciao bellas. |
Carrots with fat free dressing for dip.
Tomato and salt. Peas. |
Speaking of refreshing foods in the summer, I have been eating a TON of watermelon the past week - it is so good to bite into a cold piece of juicy fruit when the weather is hot outside! :sunny::beach:
|
i go with cucumber, kimchi, fruits, or, normally is mint TEA. :)
|
Some good ideas here - but I was thinking of things with like less than 10 cals, rather than up to 100.
|
I like, with a little salt or dressing:
With a bottle of water... |
any raw veggies...cut up carrots are my favourite...cucumbers and green or red bell peppers. Yum.
|
Oh, I love red, orange or yellow peppers YUM ....
|
Green beans, I have ones that are 15 calories for half a cup, and they fill me up great.
|
i like sugar free pudding (chocolate, the caramel kind is weird because caramel IS sugar), a handful of green olives (with good fat!), raw broccoli, Orbit gum, coffee with soy creamer, and/or pickles. mmm crunchy salty things.
|
I have no idea how many calories this would be because If I'm eating fruits or veggies I don't bother with calories but my big thing lately has been 1/2 granny smith apple sliced and I sprinkle cinnamon on them and a bottle of water , it pretty much works for me every time it last me at least another hour if not two if I'm STILL hungry after that and water I just go to bed early or else I will be to tempted to start binging eep....

Pickles and sugar free jello.
|
I have been eating tons of pickled onions lately - a whole massive jar is only about 40 calories and it takes me a few days to get through it.
Do you think you can have too much vinegar? |
Okay, you need to be careful because pickles are actually a lot of calories if you eat the big ones. Small, baby dill pickles are about 5 calories for 3 pickles though, so I would go with those.
Small strawberries are 2 calories per strawberry. Med. sized are 4 cal, and large strawberries are 6 cal each. Most fruit is really high in calories, but I find that strawberries are easier to portion out because they are always small, individual berries. Tic Tacs are 1 calorie each. Certs are about 5 or 10 calories each. Most chewing (not bubble) gum is 5 calories or less per piece. You can eat as much celery as you want, because as most people know, it burns more calories to eat it than it contains, so you are consuming negative calories. Diet Pop is 0 calories. 1 serving of fresh spinach is only 2 calories. You are safe with any green leafy vegetable. If you need some more taste, buy the I can't believe it's not butter spray, which is like, 1 calorie for 10 squirts or something. Hope I helped. |
Pickled onions are only 10 cals per 100g if you don't get the sweetened ones with added sugar. An entire jar drained weight is only about 400g, hence 40 cals.
See, I can read labels :) |
I don't think you can get too much vinegar... sodium, yes, but not vinegar.
|
What are certs?

Certs are breath mints. Yuck. Maybe it's just me, but if I need a snack, a certs or tic tac isn't going to do it.
Certs remind me of my grandfather who was an alcoholic. He ate them constantly. |
Hey Robsia,
I'm a vinegar freak too, and your question made me curious. Several websites mentioned that 2 tablespoons a day can have health benefits, but it's easier on your system if it's diluted. Too much vinegar can cause heartburn, digestive problems, and be corrosive to your teeth. I'm getting mixed signals on the effects it has on the liver. Too much vinegar can cause very acidic urine, which may kill off some necessary helpful bacteria you may need "down there" (My ob/gyn told me this because I asked him about this months ago, lol) It can also lower potassium levels in the body and lower bone density. It can also interact with several medications. I think your onions would be fine, as long as you are drinking lots of water. Are you just eating the onions, or are you drinking the liquid in the jar as well? Sorry if that's a dumb question; I just know some people like drinking pickle juice. I used webmd for this search and a few other sites that seemed fairly reputable. I didn't use any sites where regular people can chime in their answers (like this one, ha ha!) |
No - I'm not drinking the vinegar - just eating the onions - but obviously they are full of vinegar too.
|
A popsicle has been doing the trick for me...nice and cold and only 20 calories!
|
I make a cup of Bengal Spice tea by Celestial Seasonings for 0 calories. It has a lot of cinnamon and is like having dessert!:T
|
Banana peppers are 0 calories, as are cucumbers.
|
I forgot to mention the other day...I also like laughing cow cheese. Each wedge is 35 calories. The swiss is really great on crackers.
