Smoothies?

Sorry, I had no idea where to post this since I'm not really doing any particular diet.

It seems like over the past few months I've found a bunch of recipes for delicious sounding smoothies but I didn't have a blender. So, today I went and bought a blender...but can't remember where I ever saw the recipes. :dizzy: Anyone have any good smoothie recipes they want to share?

It's quite easy, you don't even need a recipe. Just take some frozen fruit, a bit of yogurt, some fruit juice and maybe some ice and blend it up.

But I'm sure if you google smoothies you'll come up with something delicious.

Ya, I thought about google...but not sure I trust any other site to give me a recipe for anything that's reasonably low-cal/fat. LOL Guess I'll do what you suggest and try playing with my new toy. LOL

I recommend you use plain yogurt--non fat, no sugar. If you use Greek style, you may need to add a little milk, too. Frozen fruit works best (I love bananas--peel them and put them in a ziplock before you freeze them). If you desire a little more protein, add some protein powder.

My favorite smoothie recipe is simple: 1/2 frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen cherries (I like Cascadia Farms dark sweet cherries), and some 1% milk (I don't know how much, but I add it until I get the consistency I like. It's probably about 1/2 - 3/4 cup). If the banana was ripe enough when you froze it, your smoothie should be sweet without adding any additional sweetner.

By the way, I used to make my smoothies in a blender, but it became a hassle. So, I bought a KitchenAid hand blender, and it works great for making smoothies and is much more convenient.

My smoothies are along the same line, but I don't add any dairy products.

1/2 Banana (frozen or fresh)
1/2 cup of frozen berries
4 oz. of Juice (I go for orange juice, but you could have anything you like)
1 tbsp. of protein powder
1 tbsp. of flax seed oil (makes the drink sooooo silky! This really makes the shake for me.)
A dash of cinnamon
A dash of nutmeg

I am a big fan of Strawberry Banana smoothies.

1 banana
1 c. frozen strawberries
1 container Cascade brand fat free yogurt, strawberry flavored
(may also use 1/2 c. fat free frozen yogurt)
1/2 c. ice (add more ice if you want it bigger without adding calories)
1/2 c. apple juice

Blend and eat!

It's not a smoothie per se, but I love making virgin daquiris in the blender. Strawberries (or a mixture of strawberries and raspberries) still frozen (make sure they're unsweetened) and diet Mountain Dew. Usually I put in about 1.5 cups of strawberries and pour in diet Mountain Dew or Sprite until it covers about 3/4 of the berries (higher if I want it thinner) and pulse until it's slushy. If the berries are tart, it might need a little sweetener, but usually the diet Mountain Dew is enough for me. If you add less soda, you can make it more like a sorbet (and I did that in a food processor before I had a blender and added more soda to the glass if I wanted it slushy so the food processor container wouldn't leak).

I have a fruit smoothie just about everyday.
I used 1/2 a banana, yogurt (plain or fruit) mixed frozen berries (or whatever fruit you have) and orange juice.
I have a Magic Bullet kind of machine....love it!

breakfast shake

Again a variation on what everyone else is doing

1/2 fresh banana
1/2 c. frozen blueberries
1 cup 1 % milk
couple of tbsp fat free yogurt
I scoop protein powder

I liquify first four ingredients and then add protein powder and blend - no lumps that way.

The virgin daquiris sound delicious - have to try one when I'm back at home with my blender.

Ohhh, Diet Mountain Dew in a smoothie what a great idea :D ...

My smoothies sometimes consist of everything but the kitchen sink and other times I just use a vanilla protein powder and a frozen fruit or fresh... sometimes I add walnuts, ground flax, vanilla or Splenda...

I also have a hand blender... I've gone through 3 of them in 20 years
