Default Weight dropped, but not inches.

I wasnt exactly sure where to post, but since I only have about 10 or 9 pounds to go, I decided to post it here.

I started out at 142, and my waist about 30 inches. Over time, I have lost 8 pounds and my waist only dropped about a half an inch to 29.5 inches. Is this normal? I'm not entirely sure, any type of response will very very appreciated!

Thank you!

I have no idea - I suppose it all has to do with the size/weight you started at. I've lost 42 pounds, and more than five inches each from hips/waist/bust. I guess maybe because you started at a reasonable weight (as opposed to me!) the size is accounted for, relatively?

Thank you, HeatherAngel! All of my weight goes to my abdomen, so I've been killing myself to get atleast one inch off of it, I guess I'll have to work harder and wait longer for those pesky inches to come off!

If your weight goes to your abdomen, then it's probably--and unfortunately--normal to not lost much, or to lose it very slowly only. The 'major problem areas' are always the ones to go away last. But you may have lost more than you think in other areas, though?

Well, my legs and arms had gotten muscular (they were never really a problem, i had begun dieting and excercising to get rid of my tummy), I just hope when I get to my goal weight it won't be as big! It'll be long journey . Thank you for the response, Kery!

You know I read somewhere once that to lose an inch you need to lose around 7 pounds (obviously that changes for each person... very rarely are things consistant from person to person). I know that funnily enough the estimation of 7 pounds an inch is very right when it comes to my body.
Good luck with your weight loss!

Talking Big BUTT

That's where it's most difficult for me to lose weight - in the caboose! I have always had a waist under 30 inches, even when my weight went up to a record (for me) 151 lbs. My waist at that time was 29 inches and my hips 41!! I am the classic pear shape and, whenever I lose I lose everywhere else first - neck, chest, arms, etc - until at last something starts to go from the butt.

I think my butt is the equivalent of your waist. Be happy with the muscular arms and legs and just keep on - the tummy will shrink eventually.

Well...it's GOTTA be coming off somewhere! Maybe just a little bit all over. Not to sweat this, just keep going--good job on the 8 pounds down!

jinanne: My problem area is my tummy/back also. I always get muscular in legs/arms first. I feel for ya!

I actually lost a half inch in my belly but gained back a pound. I guess It's what I get for letting myself become so lazy and losing any muscle mass I once had. At least I'm getting it bacl And you'll be able to get those pesky inches off your belly too!!!

I think it's totally normal. Here's my record of my waist sizes when I lost weight (before I got preggo and gained it all back!):

01/26/03 wt 142.0 lb, waist 30"
05/04/03 wt 139.6 lb, waist 29"
10/19/04 wt 135.6 lb, waist 28"

I don't have a waist measurement from my thinnest weight (129 lb), but I'm sure it wouldn't have been much different! I know, it sucks! I wish I dropped more in the waist!

jinanne, it sometimes has to do with age . At perimenopause time weight tends to settle more at midsection, they tell.

What kind of exercise are you doing? Weight loss through diet alone probably wouldn't whittle the midsection as much as weight loss through exercise.

Congrats on the 8 pounds.

Thanks Kilketay for posting the record of waist measurements - that's interesting.

Thanks for all the responses!

I thought I was going to crazy, but thanks a lot for clarifying! I pretty much hate my waist, because everything else is small!

Thank you so much for the support!

"Down here" a pound lost is a funny thing. It almost feels like the skin I can pinch around my abdomen is loose for a while and then it catches up.
