SusanB: Just hang in there. It'll happen!

p.s. I'm wearing some junky "surfer style" shorts that snap at the waist...they have drove me nuts for years because every time I bend forward the top snap comes undone....I never wear them for this reason. I have been bending forward all day and they are staying snapped! I checked my waist the other day and it is 34" now (it was 36")...maybe the exercise is paying off a little more than I thought! I think I will skip the coffee today again and go with tea. I read something that says coffee inhibits fat loss because it raises your insulin levels and "locks" in the fat temporarily. Have any of you heard similar things and do you believe it? (Coffee: I love you and can't give you up right now! :coffee: :coffee: :coffee: )

AquaWarlock 06-07-2007 09:54 AM

MichelinWoman As long as you drink it in moderation, I don't think coffee has a negative impact on weight loss. In fact, many think the antioxidants & phytochemicals in coffee has a positive effect on regulating insulin & helping to prevent diabetes and some forms of cancers. (reference on Slate.com). Now, like any other thing, this isn't a reason to go on a coffee diet or what-not (though I might already be on it by default :D), but I do feel less guilty about 2-3 cups a day ;)

My right tricep has been mildly sore for the past day or so, I hope I didn't overwork/stretch it (I try to squeeze in a little upper body toning every day, esp. when watching TV) Maybe I'll take a break from that today.

Yesterday I had a wonderful dinner @ a seafood restaurant and managed to make relatively healthful choices so felt pretty good about that: 2 oyster shooters, 1 slice of sourdough from the bread basket with butter, seared-rare ahi tuna steak with a papaya-salsa relish with sauteed veggies and cheesy mashed potatoes (which I had only half off). Guesstimating 800-900 calories, which I had planned for by eating lighter lunches & snacks and with extra exercises.

Hopefully today will go as well! :) I already know what's cooking for dinner and can't wait!

Warlock-- So, what is cooking for dinner? Enquiry minds want to know ;) Yesterday's supper out sounds really good  ... my kind of meal... :bravo: on the compliment :D

Michelin -- Way to go go on the snaps :high:

THAT is the story of my life for the last 2 years, ugh, I'm so sick of it... It's like my body refuses to lose those last 10#....

I also agree, 2# per month, for is a very good rate of loss... I just wish I would be persistent with it... Not lose 2#/month, gain 2#/month, I AM so sick of doing that... I was doing well last week I was at 146 then after a weekend of "cwap" I weighed in only this morning, being too chicken to get on the scale Mon to Wednesday, and now I'm 148 :tantrum:... My own fault no one to blame but myself... I have to be more persistant  ....

Just back from a 9k walk/jog/run .... I'm a :snail: took me 1h11m .... but I did burn approximately 440 calories  later I am going for a bike ride...

I swear Ilene, my favorite number on my Garmin is the calories burned. I dont wear my HRM so it is just weight based, but the GPS takes elevation into account and I have been running hills a lot. I tell you Saturday when I did my long run and I got home I looked at that number and almost fainted...a whole days worth of food. 1896 calories burned.

And my brain still doesnt process metric at first pass, I saw :snail: 1:11 9 MILES and went :yikes: who does she think she is kidding!

srmb60 06-07-2007 10:51 AM

Morning!

Warlock ... I love the idea of sneaking a little resistance exercise in in the evenings. It'd at least make TV useful for health;) But ... don't do your triceps each day, man. Let those microscopic tears heal!
You could create a TV split for us!

ennay 06-07-2007 10:55 AM

mmmmmm Warlock.... sounds fabulous. Especially considering my meal of heinously awful and hideously bad for you broccoli, rice, cheese, chicken casserole glop. (It was the last meal for my freezer coop, I put it off as long as possible.)

alinnell 06-07-2007 11:16 AM

Good morning everyone!!!

The scale has moved downward. 1 pound. Not a lot, but it is the fluctuation that I wanted to see. Now to keep it there and work on the next pound. So far today, I'll be POP until dinner--then I'm meeting friends at a Mexican place and that means a margarita. I've been really good this week and have stayed away from the wine (you know me and wine--1 glass leads to 2 which leads to 3). Instead, I've been fixing myself half-sized martinis. That allows me to have something to drink while I fix dinner and since I don't like martinis with dinner, I'm more than happy to have water from there on out.

Gotta run. Work calls.

Cats tongue 06-07-2007 11:48 AM

Hey all

My week has been super busy. With school and couple extra things going on. My brother has his commencements tomorrow (he's graduating from high school) and since he'll have his suit we're going to take family portraits today.

Had a bad eating night last night, after my evening class I just didn't feel full or satisfied. ended up overeating, but at least it was on healthy food items (apple, popcorn, some fried rice with veggies.). I still woke up with a stomach ach today though :(.

Susan, where is that thread you mentioned? I'd love to check it out.

canadian mom 06-07-2007 01:11 PM

allison~ I am glad you finanlyy found something that works for you so you do not have to give anything up. I gave up counting valpries and then the pounds started rolling off again. I hope it keeps up...lol

srmb60 06-07-2007 01:46 PM

Cats tongue ... the Anne Fletcher book threads? In the Maintainers Library there is a sticky for each chapter. I'm just reading Chapter #3 Do It Your Way.

DHL just delivered the cutest scrubs! I love it!

AquaWarlock 06-07-2007 02:44 PM

Just got back from a trip to the mall (work-related, really! but it doesn't hurt that I found out that bath & body works is having a massive sale, got $50 worth of stuff for little over $16 -- not sure if it's just that store or nationwide tho.)

Anyways, my planned dinner tonight is a sausage stuffed portabello mushroom cap with roasted tomato sauce, and a side of sauteed brussel sprouts & bell pepper strips with garlic and pancetta. And for dessert, a square of one of my favorite chocolates -- Vosges Goji Bar with goji berries & pink salt, with a tall glass of iced pomegranate green tea (unsweetened) - not bad for ~600 calories, huh? ;)

Anyhoo, gonna finish my lunch then back to work I go. I can't wait to break into my new sneakers for tennis tonight!

Mudpie 06-07-2007 05:04 PM

Is it me or did something happen to the site? I can't read the posts with the posters profile on the left. Now have to scroll over etc. Any way to fix this?
Dagmar

abbyin 06-07-2007 08:49 PM

I think it fixed its self, Dagmar.

Hello everyone!

I have been sick for over a week but I think I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was off Tuesday from work because it was all I could do to stand up and walk :faint: . I have been eating really terrible this week also (lots of comfort food) :o . My official weigh in is tomorrow, but I think I will skip that this week. Although I stepped on the scale a couple of days ago and hadn't gained, I'm sure it has caught up to me by now. I'm still coughing quite a bit, but at least I had a little energy today. I've actually watered my flowers tonight (they were looking pretty sad), made out a deposit, wrote out some bills, did a load of laundry, and ironed my clothes for tomorrow. It doesn't sound like much, but heh, it's more than I've done all week long :p

Boy I missed a lot of chat! It took me a long time to catch up on reading the post :dizzy:. Congratulations on those of you who have lost! I know it's not good but it made me feel better that some of us are only losing 2lbs. (or less) a month. That seems to be my pattern too. At least I don't feel as bad as I did about this. I guess we all need to kick it up a notch  .

Susan - Cute scrubs! There is a Scrubs store by where I work and I walk by it sometimes and I can't believe the cute scrubs they have out now.

Well, back on plan tomorrow and believe it or not I'm ready! Lets get busy ladies, it's still early June! :D

Whittlin 06-07-2007 10:04 PM

Susan is that your nice figure in those scrubs?

Good job on the pound Allison.

I really think there is NO REASON to count upward fluctuations. They're unimportant! Count every slight blip downward, yes  , but to me the upward fluctuations are just the status quo, helping hold our places until the next dip!

abbyin, sure hope you continue to feel better.

Congrats to CatsTongue's brother.

Still tweaking my own best "maintenance workout schedule" I did what will probably be my second-hardest workout of the week today and really did work up a sweat. It was a standing workout for a half-hour with lunges, intense balance and runners stretch, etc. ( the hardest was Monday's half-hour of floor work). I really think I will learn to like this short-workout-most-days schedule. They'll average 25 minutes instead of my previous 50-minutes 3 times a week plus off-day stretches.

KylieH 06-07-2007 11:03 PM

This is a bit long, so I'll apologize before hand. Hopefully, no one can relate to my day....

I didn't realize how busy/stressed I have been the past couple weeks until everything came to a head tonight. I went to the gym for my personal training appointment when the girl behind the counter waved me over. She told me that my account was over due!

What the--- :o

No way! Impossible! How ridiculous!

Maybe????

Oh, CR*P! (I came home and checked, yep, I crossed it off my tab sheet of bills to pay, but some how spaced actually paying it.)

Thank heavens I had my debit card on me, so I paid it and now am in the good graces. This is not the place to be bad since most of my social activities are there these days. :D

Once home, I tried to make some dinner, but the best I had was one freezer burned Morningstar patty, some baked beans from the back corner of the pantry, and frozen broccoli.

All of this leads me to the conclusion that I have to take time and get my act together this weekend..no fail.

srmb60 06-07-2007 11:59 PM

Good evening everyone!

Whittlin ... yup, that's me. I'm not sure why we cut off my head when it's right over there :D

Dawnslight 06-08-2007 12:25 PM

Hey everyone,

I've missed so much this week. All of those wonderful people losing weight (congrats to you) and me . . . well, I've been maintaining. But you know what? That's okay. I'd rather stay where I am at 164.5 than be going up. I may not have met my mini goal (160 lbs by 6/9/07) but again, that's okay. I've made progress in other areas. I started doing Leslie Sansone's walk away the pounds and managed to get through the 1 mile with no problems. I wasn't even out of breath. So I'm going to be starting to 2 mile walk in hopes that maybe that'll help. And I think I'm going to be starting a rewards program for myself. I've just finished paying off my car and am trying to save up for my next one. Hopefully, I'll have $5000 by next year for it. So I'm thinking of everytime I don't have a flavored coffee (my weakness) I'll stick the money I would have spent on that to put into savings. It'll be interesting to see how much I actually spend on those things. Plus tomorrow I'll be doing a lot of walking. I'll be doing my Relay for Life for the Cancer Society tomorrow. Wish me luck.

srmb60 06-09-2007 06:23 AM

Good morning! That was the worlds shortest day off and I slept thru part of it.

alinnell 06-09-2007 10:59 AM

Good morning!

This weekend will be all about planning and getting back on track to lose those last 10 pounds!

cuppajoe 06-09-2007 07:07 PM

Hey There!

Well...I introduced myself some weeks ago then disappeared. Life. But here I am and with a currently modified goal to lose ten pounds by my birthday 6 1/2 weeks away. Kinda dicey proposition, but it's worth a shot.

My plan--I started the Body for Life for Women program today, upper body and 30 min bike. Felt pretty good.

My big problem is those carbs--the flour/sugar ones--not the apple/carrot ones. So I'm trying to limit those to four STANDARD servings a day. I have figured out that a BOWL of ice cream isn't exactly a standard serving. Who knew??? There's a little note on the side of the carton that says 1/2 cup is a "serving". Dang!

So today I'm at work and on track. The challenge will be to stick to it during the late nite after work munchies.

PS: One of my planned rewards is gonna be a pair of cute scrubs...

Cuppa

srmb60 06-10-2007 05:32 AM

Good Morning!

Ah yes, planning. I guess we know what Allison and Kylie are doing today :) I should make a crock of something low fat this afternoon.
Hi Cuppa, I really like the food lists on the BFL site. Now that I've figured out sizing for those scrubs, I've ordered another couple sets on ebay. Those ones washed really nicely too.

Is it time to start a new thread?
