Hey all! Just checking in to say hello! I started off my day right & headed to the gym for an appt w/a trainer--she is the 3rd one I've had in the last 6 months, they keep leaving or whatever, anyway, sure enough I get there & she "doesn't work there anymore". How aggravating. So, I hop on some cardio stuff & get a little cardio in while the club is lining up another trainer. I swear, I'm ready for my hours to be used so I can try somewhere else... It's still a good workout & a great club, just a pooky training system, y'know?

So, while on vacation, I was able to keep the scale more or less in the same place, no gain, no loss, which was pretty pleasing (yes, I took my scale with me--a little OCD maybe :) Nah...), but now that I'm back home & back in a controlled environment, things are moving down again, yeah!

Well wishes to all & I'll catch up on threads later!

alinnell 05-09-2007 01:55 PM

Liz~my DD has a similar problem. The gym she belongs to is supposed to have a Pilates class every night at 5:45--she's gone twice this week and no class! It is discouraging to pay for something and expect it to be there and then not to have it. I'd like to join this gym as it is 2 doors from my office, but with problems like that, I may have to look elsewhere.

Oh, Allison, I soooo understand... My DD caught me reading her MSN history a few months ago and now she doesn't keep her history anymore :( ... I felt bad for snooping but it gave me a window into her life that I miss now ... My DD will be 17 in September. She can be secretive, but always spills the beans eventually... She told me last night as a matter of fact that *I* was her best friend :faint: that she could tell anything to and it wouldn't go any further, I was shocked... We are close though and I can read her like a book... How old is your DD?

Your DH's doc sounds like my DH's  ... What happened at the time, when DH's cholesterol was high, is that DD became a vegetarian... So we all started to eat pretty much the same way, eliminating red meat for DD and us, but we still ate fish, salmon and chicken, we both like our protein. Lots of veggies and fruits ... DH also started looking at ALL labels, and if there was cholesterol written on there he would not eat it... There is cholesterol hidden in things such as crackers and frozen entrées that you'd never think of. He went from 6.2 to 4.7 (I'm not sure how those numbers translate, to US numbers , I know that they are different), I'm also not sure about the LDL or HDL numbers specifically either, we were looking at the total numbers. I don't think his Cholesterol going down had anything do to with eating walnuts and pistachio, since he doesn't like those nuts, and has never eaten them... He also started walking daily for 45+ mins and now we both bike...

Well, I'm at work this afternoon and it's boring with nothing to do, so I am here posting and lurking... Oh, well, get paid to be on 3FC  ... but the afternoon, still gets long :faint:

Wow, Ilene--sounds just like me! DD is 16. I'm still trying to figure out how I can access the page without her knowing it.....she spends most of her time in her room playing computer games and chatting with all her friends, but it is nice when she spends time with us and actually talks. Perhaps I'll just try to tough it out like a Mom should! I don't know for sure if she even suspects that I've read it--I've never let on that I have. I think it is just that the blog space has been doing upgrades lately and it may have just added this layer of protection (like myspace has done for quite some time). I do have other windows of opportunity to see what she's up to, but she isn't as forthcoming as she is with her blog.

What has worked for DD and I is that we, just her and I, go out EVERY week at least once, for lunch or supper, my treat, and she has gotten to like this a LOT and expects and misses it if we don't go... Once I even let her have a few sips of my vodka and tonic and OMG she was soooo talkative  it was hillarious, I found out quite a few things that night ;) ... I have to be super careful though when we are together not to judge, her or her friends, be supportive without being preachy KWIM? I do enjoy those times though  and I think she does too...

Haha, sounds like my meetings with mom every 1-2 weeks (she lives only one city away) - we'd eat, we'd talk, and may catch a flick. I'm still trying to convince her to do some light exercises with me.

Today I took a half-hour walk during my lunch break with my mp3 player ~ a nice break just sitting in my office.

May have to exercise some caution tonight with dinner, going to this place famous for their burgers and Belgian fries (served in a cone with aioli dip) ~ I banked 900 calories for the occasion, hope that's enough :O

We roller blade sometimes, but we can't talk as well when we're busy exercising... but when we're in a booth face to face it's much better... Have fun at your meal tonight :hun:

alinnell 05-09-2007 04:15 PM

Thanks, Ilene. I think one of the reasons I want to join the gym is so we can go workout together--that Mom and Daughter thing. But dinners sound good, too! I also love it when we go shopping together, but she hasn't wanted to do that lately. We already belong to a charitable organization that is dedicated to strengthening the mother-daughter bond, but she isn't particularly into it. But I do think it helps as we have to do things together throughout the year.

Mudpie 05-10-2007 05:51 AM

Peanut butter

 I knew there was a reason I no longer keep peanut butter in the house. Work has been just  the last few days. I didn't have time to eat my apple slices in the car yesterday - forgot I had them!

Found them last night when I was getting my stuff ready for Thursday. They were kinda yucky by then so I decided they would be better dipped in peanut butter (a former boss used to eat this for a snack). I think I wound up eating peanut butter with a bit of apple in it.

Back OP today. When I get back to my house ( :D tomorrow - YAY!!) I'll make sure there are no sabotage foods there. I want to see that magic 130-something number on my scale next Tuesday ;)

That sounds awesome....to work out as mom & daughter. I would love a walking partner. I had a friend who walked with me regularly a few years ago and it really kept me on track. My 14-year-old isn't interested in walking or any cardio. She has shown some interest recently in a buns and abs video of mine. She has been doing it religiously for about 4 weeks now (only because she saw a "wave" on her behind).

My mom has been depressed about her weight for my entire life (she is probably in the 240 range now) and has basically given up hope years ago. I've watched her drop to 170 range (but that was at least 20 years ago), only to regain it all back. She is pretty tall and large boned. She can totally pull off 170, but probably needs to be about 160 to be at a healthy weight for her age.

srmb60 05-10-2007 07:57 AM

Ah raising girls! I'll have to be careful cuz DD hangs around here somewhere ;)
Mine turned out really well and I'm not sure I had anything to do with it. I just wanted my kids to know that home was the best and safest place to be. As long as they know that they can come to you about anything ... I believe they'll be fine. Oh they won't always come to you ... they just need to know that they can.

Who's idea was this 21 Day Challenge? Too stubborn to back down, I've now ... set down in type ... the fact that I can't stay OP for more than about 2 1/2 days at a time
Oh well, it's got to pay off somehow, if you have more good days than bad, right?

mamajones 05-10-2007 09:01 AM

Good morning all! What it would be like to have daughters...hmmm...I'll never know~we stopped after our two sons & they are still very small so the world you speak of is still miles away for us :).

Well, we are off today to mail Mothers Day presents (I'm perpetually late, it's something everyone can always depend on :)). Then I promised the little dudes a picnic at the pool, so sounds like a leisure day here. :swim:

Tuesday DH was in Denver for work, so we didn't have a "dinnertime curfew" & the boys & I spent the day in Cades Cove--it's very beautiful this time of year. We picnicked, hiked & spotted wildlife--turkeys, deer, squirrels, a crawfish in a creek (how lost is he?!), and even 2 black bears! It was loads of fun & that is how life is with my kids right now, they go where I go & do what I do! That'll change, huh?...

What's the 21 day challenge, obviously I missed it, but I still want to know what it is!

Later y'all,

alinnell 05-10-2007 10:38 AM

Good morning everyone!! Lucky me, my sleuthing paid off and I can access DD's blog once more (not that she's posted anything in the past few days, though). Gotta love using Mozilla Firefox rather than Microsoft Internet Explorer. Mozilla has this thing where you can look at the stored passwords. Maybe IE has it, too, but I don't know where it is.

My weight is continuing downward!!! I know that a lot of it had to do with water retention last week due to TOM, but I've actually lost 4 pounds since Sunday! Breakfast was the usual berries and muffin, lunch is yogurt, banana, apple and an egg sandwich (yummy!!--with ff mayo) and dinner will be steak, steamed veggie and perhaps brown rice. Totally OP for me!!

I did start the 21 day challenge (twice in fact) but it just wasn't working for me. Same way with the Easter challenge I did. I guess it is something about me not liking to do what other say (or eat what they tell me to eat)--if I need a deadline, I have to set it myself (and I'll choose my own menu, thank you very much!!).

Everyone have a wonderful day!

3fcuser1058250 05-10-2007 11:35 AM

Morning all  ...

Good for you Allison for breaking the code  ... We use both IE and Firefox... I keep going back to EI just because I'm more used to it... DD has no blog though so I can't go snooping in there...

Liz -- Picnic and a pool sounds wonderful...

Food has been good for me too this week :woohoo: ... And exercise has been awesome with this nice weather too... Just back from an hour run and an hour bike ride back to back, my own duathlon :D ... Who needs races when you can do it yourself ...

Well I'm off to get ready and do errands... We are taking DD and her friends to yet another concert in Ottawa, so it's going to be another late night... I can't wait for her to be over this "concert" phase  ... Mama and papa are getting tired of the driving ..

Later all...

AquaWarlock 05-10-2007 12:04 PM

Haha Ilene & Allison, one reason I don't store my passwords ever! Well, not that my folks would look at my blog anyways when I was at home in High School quite a few years back, they barely e-mail and Net surf.

So yesterday @ the gourmet greasy spoon (appropriately named "Oinkster") I had Belgian fries with aioli, half a burger and half a pastrami sandwich and I stopped eating when I felt full. Probably more calories than I anticipated but glad I had the self-control to resist snarfing down everything in sight.

I also busted my ball yesterday, exercise ball that is ;) One moment I was sitting at home typing out e-mails (I also use it as my computer chair) and the next I heard a pop and wondered for a few seconods how I wound up on the floor, then I saw the pitiful flap of plastic right beneath me. Thankfully, my rear still has some "cushioning" :) so I didn't take a serious fall. I am disappointed though that I wasn't able to do my stability ball exercise last night, but glad that it didn't happen DURING the exercise (since I do that workout with 8 lb. dumbbells and could've injured myself). So swiss ball shopping I shall do today... and just a caution for y'all, my ball had about two years of wear and tear before it finally gave out.

Oh yea, last minute son that I am, guess I'll be doing some Mom's day shopping too. Since she works that day (food industry) -- I'm thinking of putting together a mother's day brunch for her dinner. And I also got her a pound of her favorite coffee (Peace Coffee, fair trade from Minnesota).

mamajones 05-10-2007 12:06 PM

uugghh..we didn't make it to the pool. My boys, for whatever reason, are going thru a thing where they just like to aggravate the stew out of each other, this really intensified about a week ago. I am so tired of listening to the arguing & crying & bossing...so I made some weak threat about 10 times this morning how if it didn't stop, we wouldn't go to the pool & of course, it didn't so now....no pool. I brought them home, offered lunch & put them down for a nap. Maybe they'll wake up in a different frame of mind...

As for me, I'm currently taking a MV off & on, not more regular because it really usually makes me nauseated. I've tried others in years past w/the same issue. Does anyone recommend a great MV? This is fresh on my mind b/c I took one with lunch & now am feeling quite green...

alinnell 05-10-2007 12:51 PM

Warlock glad you didn't injure your tushie! I saw a video about a guy using one of those as a computer chair....and his co-worker (annoyed with him) took his scissors and popped it while he was sitting on it. Your story reminds me of that.

Liz sorry to hear about your boys. You know what they say, "boys will be boys." And MV? I'm assuming that's a multiple vitamin? They make me queasy, too, so I take them at bedtime and it doesn't seem to bother me as much. If I take them in the morning, I often throw up they make me so sick.

Ilene have fun at the concert! Who is playing?

Whittlin 05-10-2007 01:02 PM

mamajones, are you saying multivitamins make your tummy feel queasy? (Don't worry - if I got the shorthand wrong, I'm difficult to embarrass! ;) ) If that's right, I'd suggest you try a whole-foods multivitamin that will have SOME (of course not all) more natural "ingredients" (actual food) and agree with your tummy better. I use Source Of Life, which is the most popular whole-foods multi. I like either the capsules or the liquid, which they say is pineapple flavor. (Hmmm - a very tart pineapple! Still, tastes citrus/nice.) One thing about whole foods vitamins, you don't get away with one tiny pill a day - you'd be taking several capsules or a tablespoon of liquid. But in my opinion, totally worth it to get quality. I don't take vitamins on an empty stomach but with something - either a meal or a drink such as milk.

AquaWarlock 05-10-2007 01:13 PM

Liz, when do you take your MV? I notice that the queasiness effect occurs when I take MV on an empty stomach, so now I do it right before or after a meal.

Allison, hah! my coworker mentioned that video too when I told her the story... and another friend told me about this other office-exercise ball video that was... umm... a little more risque. :O

srmb60 05-10-2007 01:40 PM

Hi Liz .... I'm trying to get into a little healthier rut by doing a 21 day challenge. I was just getting so slack about almost every aspect there is to weight loss ...
The threads are set up so that you can start any time. We're counting backward from day 21. I think that there's a link in each day that will take you to the 1st day (day 21) and one to pop you along to the next day.

srmb60 05-10-2007 01:54 PM

I am just in awe, you guys.
Have you met this 3FC poster? Gwynditmars? In a wheelchair, on oxygen ... she has lost almost 50 lbs and is now able to walk around a block.
I am blown away by her.

mamajones 05-10-2007 02:11 PM

Y'all got it right--it's Multivitamin & I always take it when I eat, so I'm not on an empty stomach. But I don't usually take it at bedtime....maybe I'll try that.

We have an Earthfare here & Fresh Market along w/some other co-ops which I'm sure would provide more all-natural choices. I've shied away from them in the past because of the volume I must take. I figured if one little (okay, big) pill makes me sick, I would be dumb to take even more!

This is also the reason I've never been able to take pills like Thermodrene, Ripped Fuel (popular in my early 20s), etc. You have to take like, a million tablets a day, & they don't make me feel good. I haven't tried any diet/energy enhancing pills in years & years.

On that note, it's so funny how life changes :). In my 20s I used to diet to stay between 120-125#, 125 was, like, oh no, time to get serious here. Later, I just tried to stay at 130# & hated the way I looked at 130-135#. After my kids I worked hard to stay below 140# & again, was always thinking of myself as thinner. Now, since this move I've topped out at 155 & after working at it a while I'm back in the upper 130s & still not "there" yet, but when I look in the mirror & think of all the times I felt I was too big, I realize how I should always be working to improve my health & the way I look, but at the same time embracing the moment & that time of life, because it has it's good things too...does that ramble make sense? I have been so unhappy with 135 before & now am thrilled to be seeing 138 again!

Anyway, enough of my "moment"...

Ciao~

mamajones 05-10-2007 02:13 PM

So, SusanB, where do I go to find the 21 day challenge?

Allison -- They are going to see My Chemical Romance at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa... It's going to be a long evening ...

Well I have to go make some hot dogs to feed them before we leave... TTFN

Warlock, glad you didn't hurt yourself...

alinnell 05-10-2007 02:27 PM

Ilene,
I have heard that My Chemical Romance puts on a VERY, VERY good show. I belong to a forum for labrador retriever owners and a poster there went to a show last week and she was very impressed. She said she was even surprised that she, at age 37, wasn't the oldest one there!

Warlock, looks like I need to go search you tube!!! LOL

abbyin 05-10-2007 02:57 PM

Susan B. - Glad to see I'm not the only one who can't stay on plan for more than 2 1/2 days in a row

Liz - The MV I take is called Centrum. I take it after I eat lunch and never have a problem with it.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Doughnut 05-10-2007 03:34 PM

Hi everyone - just checking in. Can't really keep up with the pace of the thread now I've missed a few days!

Allison - I'm really sorry about the burglary, that totally stinks. Re your daughter's blog: does she know you come on this site? If so she may well be checking you out. If so I'm afraid you're totally busted and probably won't be seeing any useful updates on her blog anytime soon.

I'm doing fine - staying on plan although I confess to a wobble today. I've seen 145 for 4 days in a row now so am dead pleased with that. One more pound to go and I'll weigh what I did when I gave up smoking 3 years ago. I was a bit on the heavy side when I finally quit but I never guessed I'd eat myself to an ultimate high of 163 :( . It's good to be back to normal(ish). Thereafter I'm aiming for slim :)

srmb60 05-10-2007 03:41 PM

Hey Liz ... here's the first day ....
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111258

Somewhere in that thread there should be a link to the next day and so on. Feel free to ask, I'm more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Oh I also wanted to say ... I take calcium, a multivit and another oily thing with food. Not only does it save the nausea, I have this notion that all the micronutrients work better if you mix them together ;)

alinnell 05-10-2007 03:58 PM

Doughnut~I've kept an eye on her browsing history. As far as I know, she's never come here. My DS on the other hand does. But he talks to me, so I don't have to worry about him (at least not yet). I do know that if you google your user name, you'll get a lot of links to the posts here, so it could happen that one day she might stumble upon my posts here, but the likelihood is pretty slim. She spends most of her online time shooting terrorists in some game called counter strike.

Way to go with the staying OP and your weight!!! Feels good, doesn't it?

Mudpie 05-10-2007 04:42 PM

A smaller challenge?

Who's idea was this 21 Day Challenge? Too stubborn to back down, I've now ... set down in type ... the fact that I can't stay OP for more than about 2 1/2 days at a time

I find that 2 1/2 days is also about the length of time I stay OP. Hope I'm not out of line (being relatively new to the group) but I'd like to offer a bit smaller challenge once everyone is done with the 21 day. :carrot:

How about a 7-day challenge, involving changing just one eating/drinking habit, that starts on a Thursday and ends the following Wednesday? I think most people are a bit less stressed on the weekend and can stay OP better. The weekend would start just in the 2 1/2 day limit and so make it easier to stay with the challenge. :broc:

Also as we all know so well, habits are really hard to break! Everyone in this group has had success as we can see from the weight loss. Now I think most of us are stuck/maintaining, whatever. :(

If we all just start small with one habit and are successful in changing it then we can build on this and slowly break out of our current holding pattern. :cheer:

Does this sound too simple? :dunno:

Dagmar

alinnell 05-10-2007 05:02 PM

While I'm not up for your challenge, Dagmar, you go right ahead and don't feel out of place suggesting it!!! I started the 21 day challenge (twice) and didn't make it past 2 days either! But, I've got my own personal challenge going on here and I don't want to mess it up! I'm sure someone will join you on your challenge!!

I agree that making small changes is the easiest and best way to progress through this diet or lifestyle change (whatever you want to call it). I've made a lot of changes over the past year and most of them have stuck, but every once in a while a bad habit sneaks in.....so as long as I nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand, I should be okay.

So how long til you see the 130's? I managed to get there this morning, but I've gotten so superstitious about moving my ticker that I just have to wait to make sure it's really, really true before I move it!!! LOL--arent' I funny?

Mudpie 05-10-2007 05:17 PM

I'm at 140 so I'm very motivated to stay OP til my next weigh in which is next Tuesday.
Dagmar

This is what I keep telling myself...that this is the EASY part :). I remember when they were infants & I thought it was so hard & well, I look back already & chuckle when I realize just how NOT hard it was :). They don't move or talk for pete's sake! I guess I'll pine nostalgically for preschool days sooner that I wish ...

You can do it!!!!!

walking2lose 05-10-2007 08:51 PM

Hi everyone,

Not a great week for me... I've just been so blasted busy and exhausted every single day. I had a 12 hour work day today, and I just can't muster any exercise. Also, it's teacher appreciation week, so there has been dangerously delicious and super fattening food everywhere I've turned at work this week... not good for a week when I'm overwhelmed and tired to begin with.

Let's just say, I'm already looking forward to a fresh start this weekend... or tomorrow.

Moms - I think it's pretty cool that you check out your kids on line stuff. As a teacher, I have seen some unbelievable stuff, namely several extremely racy and drug and alcohol filled myspace pages. I have a boy in night school class whose background for his myspace page is all marijuana leaves. I have a female student this year who has several very slutty pics on her page. I always wonder why the parents allow that, but I think many just don't look or care.

Well, gotta get some food... later!

You miss reading this thing for a couple of days and it runs away from you. :dizzy: So bear with me as I go into a semi-long post.

I was so sorry to hear about your break-in, Allinell. I wouldn't be surprised if it were tweakers (or any other type of addicts). In my line of work (corrections-law enforcement) I've seen people do some crazy things for a high. The popular thing to do where I work (in a Work Release - minimum security center) is to take a whole bunch of cold medication. Another popular one is taking Tylenol PM's. Apparently, if you take enough they give you a buzz.

I also wanted to thank everyone who sent good wishes towards my Dad. He had surgery a couple of weeks ago and it left him in the hospital a couple of days longer than planned. He's doing better now and can almost walk normally. But he's still tender and can't do too much, so that's left me doing more around the house, which I don't mind.

On the weightloss front things have not been going as well. Last time I posted I was down to 163.5, three pounds lighter. Well, as expected I'm back up to 165.5-166 lbs. This is where I've been for over a month. I know I need to take a closer look at what I eat and maybe excersize more, but I've been eating better and moving more than I was this past winter. And I'm at the same weight. I'm not going to give up, but it's starting to become frustrating. :( Anybody have any ideas or suggestions that I can use?

Good morning dears.
I have nothing of note to say, just have some time to fill and thought I stop by.
Wouldn't it be nice if we all could just slide under that 10's number in the next few days?
Dagmar ... once in a while there's a thread in support to plan and have just one good day. It is hard. Look at all the interuptive things that have happened to the folks in this thread this week.

 Hello susie-poo

Well lots to report, kinda! Had a big mix-up with my grocery delivery last night, in the end we got our stuff AND some-one else's which was nice since they have more expensive taste than we do! I have sushi for lunch... :D It was all sorted and above board though, not like we stole it! We also got some Halloumi cheese and salami and organic red leicester cheese and nice yoghurts that DH loves, so he's a happy chappy too!

At kickboxing last night I got well and truly beaten up :boxing: I've a big lump on the side of my noggin, and my eyes are blacking up from a good uppercut to my nose. :tired: Fan-tastic! The estate agents are going to refer to us as "the domestic violence couple" since we're house-hunting tomorrow!

Eating and exercise wise everything is on plan. I had a little slip up on Monday night which led to Tuesday being an almost-write off but I'm back in control again and fully forgiven :)

Today I feel a little bigger than usual and I was tempted to weigh, but I figured it would just annoy me even more! So I am just really concentrating on when I'm hungry or not. So far I've only had breakfast and it's half 1. I'm not even remotely hungry for Sushi!
