Hey girls  and  to our wonderful guy too ;) ....

Today has been a strange day, I feel disconnected somehow... I woke up with a raspy throat and feeling like my head is filling up and feeling light headed all day like I took some drugs or something, and I didn't take anything for this headcold I feel coming on, except vitamin C and Echinacea ... Anyways all this to say that I didn't feel like exercising

I'm feelnig really tired so I'm off to the couch and the TV...

AquaWarlock 04-10-2007 10:23 PM

Hi everyone, I was not so resistant to the call of leftover Easter chocolates... so had about 3 fun-sized pieces (guesstimating 75-100 calories total). But I played around with my day's food so still at budget, more or less.

And ugh! at work today -- I only had one pair of slacks left (laundry day was s'pose to be last night, but washer was broken)... from me 4-5 inches ago. After belting it... it kept bundling here, there and everywhere... not to mention that it looked like I had two potato bags on my legs, haha! Thank goodness no important meetings today.

So yea - that pair of khakis gets to go with the rest of my old clothes... next time I'd rather febreze a worn pair and re-wear!

And I'm SO happy it's strawberry season -- I diced some up to mix with my yogurt for a snack and also put some sliced ones in my PB&J for lunch, so delicious! Can't wait for the strawberry festival (about an hour's drive away) coming up mid-May... :D

Thanks for the info!

Ennay, thanks so much for the info! It couldn't have come at a better time. Armed with this knowledge, I'm never shopping for tennis shoes at Fred Meyer again! When I was more....sedentary...I never noticed too much of a difference in shoe quality, but I sure have now that I'm in the gym more often.:)

Easter is just another Sunday around my house so I don't have any chocolate bunnies to tempt me. Of course, if I did, they would be gone by now!

My Penny's Low Fat Muffins came today; I am super excited to have them :hyper:! I've already tried one of the zucchini muffins and it was so moist I'm having trouble believing they are really only 100 calories and low fat. On top of that, I made Fiber One Gingerbread Muffins over the weekend (which aren't quite as moist as Penny's but are only 60 calories) so it is muffin mania around here these days!

I do really have to get myself to a real running store one of these days :running:. I have a pair of shoes that are okay for gym workouts (and were NOT cheap) but they give me a humongous walrus blister when I run for more than half an hour. :headache:

I did sprints on the treadmill at the gym for the first time today. The calorie burn was about the same as for my regular treadmill run but I'm not sure if it seemed quite the same intensity. But it did make the fifteen minutes pass quickly. I wish it were easier to adjust the speed on the treadmill.

No worries, AquaWarlock, I didn't take your post the wrong way. I laughed when I read it because it's totally true.

Alinnell, I read an article recently (I can't remember where) about someone who said she lost 15 pounds in something like ten weeks, just by giving up alcohol. She said she drank around 2000 calories per week in wine, etc. I remember I kept doing the math and thinking it wasn't possible :dunno:. A drop of 2000 calories, should only be a loss of a little over half a pound per week and she was claiming that she lost way more that that. There were other women in the article that made similar claims. Either A) she drank way more than she said, B) she didn't lose as much weight as she said or C) alcohol effects our weight different than other calories. :hat:

Sweet_talker, a three-hour history exam sounds brutal :stress:. I bet you're glad you're done with it; it makes me glad I'm not in school anymore! :D

Well, I've probably :blah: (been wanting to use this smilie for a while) long enough now that no one will want to wade through all this. Today was a  day at work and tomorrow is not going to be any easier so I should probably get some sleep! :faint:

Sodiumlightbaby 04-11-2007 06:59 AM

Hey all, well I made it through without chocolate last night but in order to do it I had to have a peanutbutter sandwich, and that pushed me to 1500 cal. I'm not complaining, pretty good for just getting back.

Still looking for an exercise buddy, maybe I should post this as a thread. I'll give it another day though.

Today, I will have fruit and yogurt for breakfast and a salad for lunch. No sure on dinner yet.

IIlene I hope you feel better dear.

Dana

Mudpie 04-11-2007 08:02 AM

Thank you for the warm welcomes!
I am truly evil  - just put the last piece of Easter chocolate in my sweetie's lunch. Had it hidden in my filing cabinet (Belgian, couldn't bear to throw it out) but it had to go. Tim's diet starts next week after his big exam stress is over so I figured better him than me.

I am off on a dog sit for the rest of this week so no computer access. I will get my profile set up early next week and get this weight loss program back on track properly.

Have a great OP rest of the week everyone

Dagmar

srmb60 04-11-2007 08:48 AM

Somehow I missed Allison sliding under and new '0' number! Congratulations!

YuppieGirlie 04-11-2007 08:53 AM

I'm sure that lady did lose that weight by cutting out alcohol. Alcohol messes with your metabolism, so if your body was used to drinking it, and you cut it out of your diet, that sugar as well as the depressive effect on your system vanishes, and your metabolism functions more efficiently. So; it isn't just a loss of those calories from the alcohol, but that her body literally processed the calories she was eating more efficiently.

It's true for a lot of people - myself included. A few weeks without alcohol = a 3 pound weight loss. And for me, we're only really talking about 300 or so calories a week in wine. 900 calories does not a pound make, let alone 3! But so long as I don't start drinking, that weight loss will stick. I'm just totally unwilling to make that sacrifice. There does come a point where I consider the "cost of living" to exceed being a certain weight. A glass or two of wine per week is one of those places for me!

Yesterday: Very successful. :running: fast walked/jogged 20 minutes before my yoga class (which I wasn't even planning on doing) did yoga (my boyfriend came too!YAYAYAY!!) and then went out with friends and swing danced a bit.

BluetoBlue: I'm amazed by your treadmill/gym capabilities. It would never work for me, I'd be bored to tears. I need the fun stuff like dancing and social classes, otherwise I may as well tie the sofa to my behind :D

Today: I have another OP day (and my at home scale is reflecting it ~ back down after my easter weight hehe)

Happy Wednesday to everyone!:)

AquaWarlock 04-11-2007 09:59 AM

Barb/Yuppie heh, maybe that girl stopped eating all that (usually unhealthy) bar grub along with the alcohol :D Though I do live close to this wine bar with the most wonderful (and reasonably-sized) hummus & cheese plate.

Yuppie Congrats on doing all that exercisin' -- yoga, cardio & dancin' ~ wow!

Mudpie :welcome3: and how sneaky of you with that last bit of Easter candy ;)

Ilene hope you feel better today ~ there's a bug circulating around our wee building where I work, so I've been keeping my office door closed more often than usual.

And boo ~ I had a case of the munchies this morning, and wound up feasting on 400 calories of potato chips (the last of the batch, thankfully) and dibs (kinda like ice cream bon bons) ~ so budgeting that in for today's planning:

B: Cereal & Soymilk (300)
L: LeanCuisine with extra veggies (325)
S: Apple (75)
D: Going to folks place where my dad is making some homemade soup--guesstimating 500
Total (counting my unexpected noshing this morning): 1600

Exercise:
~ 30 minutes of playing DDR
~ 20 minutes kickboxing
~ 10 minutes abs
~ 15 minutes abs & upperbody with weights/stability ball

I think the congrats might be a tad premature. Sure I stayed below 140 for 4 days, but I'm back up there now. Quite discouraging.

Blue and Yuppie~I do believe that she could have lost that by just cutting out alcohol. I do agree that alcohol messes with your metabolism and messes with the way your body handles the food/alcohol combination. For example, when I have a cocktail or glass of wine in the evening or with dinner, I am quite comfortable for the rest of the evening. When I skip it, I freeze. DH thinks I'm crazy!! We live in the desert of Southern California and it gets very warm here. Yesterday, I think the daytime temps were in the low 90's. While watching TV last night, it was about 80 in the house, 85 outside, and there I was bundled in a blanket shivering!!! DH is sitting next to me in shorts and wondering why I'm such an icebox. Had I had a glass of wine, I wouldn't have needed the blanket.

ennay 04-11-2007 11:52 AM

morning! not much sleep last night and it shows on the scale, anyone else retain with insomnia? One button on the scale will capture and hold your weight till the next time you capture and I forgot yesterday (usually try to keep the low one in there)

2 days back OP! wooohooo!

I was heading out to run errands but I changed my mind and I think ds and I are going to nap together

Feel better Ilene

srmb60 04-11-2007 01:11 PM

I miss Ilene.

Allison, I have faith in you. A couple days doesn't matter much to me. Perhaps my congratulations is foresight :wizard:

Let's not talk about alcohol and weight. We're going for a quick get-away next week. :o

Hmmm a nap ... I think I'll take my new book (Superfoods Rx) and do something like that.

poppins3 04-11-2007 02:21 PM

SusanB: Please tell me how you like Superfoods Rx. This is on my of books to read!

Cats tongue 04-11-2007 02:38 PM

Hey all you fabulous featherweights.

Oohh, lots of talk of losses! Congrates to everyone who has lost.

Yesterday was a good day, especially after Monday which was a junky-junk food day through and through. Yesterday I wasn't even tempted by the sweet stuff, which made me happy. :D

Hee hee, all this talk of alcohol and weight is just like university. The freshmen fifteen isn't from junk food, it's from alcohol consumption ;) (can't say that was true in my case though). I've never been a partier, but let me tell you in rez (last year, and never again!) people party hard on the weekends (and some weeknights too, )... And after eight months of that, it's bound to show.

Plus I agree with AquaWarlock, people do snack a lot when they're drinking. They don't even think about it. Midnight pizza deliviries were so frequent pizza places definitly had good deals for students. Hee hee hee.

Doughnut 04-11-2007 02:45 PM

Hi everyone

Well done to all the losers - too many of your for individual addresses but a group :congrat: seems to be in order.

I'm back on plan and doing well. I have decided to take a break from the scale so my ticker may well remain stagnant for a fair few weeks - hopefully because of my decision rather than a terrible off plan patch. I need to address the exercise side of things before too long as that's my constant downfall.

srmb60 04-11-2007 03:08 PM

Poppins ... I love it. I've been excited about the crap some folks call food for a long time. The book is like more, better, bigger info on good foods and why they are good foods.

AquaWarlock 04-11-2007 04:02 PM

Barb hope you liked the muffins -- I think Lemon Poppyseed & Black Forest are my faves. Alas, I finished them last week -- but will probably get s'more in the not-too-distant future.

Cat Boy do I remember those pizza days -- 3 guys in one apartment + 2-for-1 pizza specials = no waistlines! (and a freakishly dirty kitchen/living/dining room :D) But yea, drinking definitely lower eating inhibitions/control... I can -vaguely- recall the times I've eaten after a few good drinks, with a "screw it" mentality and just ordering whatever. So I hope to be extra cautious about that this Saturday (going to a bar then restaurant for friend's b-day).

Susan Glad the book is a good read -- speaking of which, I've always been meaning to incorporate blueberries (which is on practically every Top 10 foods list) but can't figure out when they're in-season... always so expensive @ market (though that may have to do with me being in California, opposite end of continental US from Maine).

Doughnut Hope all goes well with you in addressing your activity/exercise issues.

Ennay my sleep lately has been a bit screwy as well (~6 hours on weekdays, even when I go to bed with a planned 9 hours, and ~12 on weekends) -- will report back as to whether that reflects on the scale number.

Ok, probably somewhat embarassing for a guy, but Netflix is sending me my Hit-the-Spot Pilates DVD today... I just think it's convenient that it's a bunch of 10-15 minute workouts so easily squeezable into any schedule. And I may actually buy the disc depending on how tricky/intense the moves are.

But so far so good today, not feeling hungry and on-target for my reduced calorie intake.

srmb60 04-11-2007 04:16 PM

Blueberries? I buy frozen when they are cheap and divvy them out into little baggies in the freezer. Frozen my not be perfect but at least I'm eating them.
One of the financial concessions I make about whole fresh natural foods ;)

alinnell 04-11-2007 04:29 PM

Warlock~Trader Joe's usually has much better prices on fresh blueberries (better than the grocery store on all produce IMO).

I, too, loved the SuperFoods Rx book. But I gave it away to a friend who I hoped would benefit from it's use. Haven't seen any results in that department yet (but I'm not going to push it).

All this talk of muffins......I may have to take a look. Perhaps not for me but for my DD--she loves those things for breakfast.

Awww, so sweet of you Susan  ....

I've been busy and lazy lately, the long weekend has thrown me right off and as is working daily...even if it is only 3.5 to 5 hours/day, it got me a lot out of my routine... I also haven't exercised since Sunday :o when I ran 8.25k... I think this weather is getting to me, I am EXTREMELY anxious for Spring and sunny, warmth plus getting my new bike out of lay-away and onto the road... Did I mention that this weather is getting to me :tantrum: ... Tomorrow I AM going to the gym after work for an UBWO and a run at 4PM with the gals...

:woohoo: for all you losers

ennay 04-11-2007 06:47 PM

Warlock - frozen blueberries-- it is one fruit that freezes really well. I still buy fresh when it is in season which in berry capital of the world (Oregon) is June

YuppieGirlie 04-11-2007 10:45 PM

YAY!!! It looks like everyone's doing awesomely well! WHOOHHOO!!

Ilene: You can do it!!! We'll be right here waiting for the updates ;)

Alinnell: Trader Joe's does totally rock. The prices are AMAZING. Their pretzel shavings make an awesome night time snack too (24 of them for 100 calories). Don't let the scale determine your progress. Move more, eat less, love yourself - the scale will co-operate eventually!

The Peeps With the Penny's Muffins: :tantrum: Everytime I read about them, I mean to purchase them and something gets in the way and I forget - nd then I read another post and the same thing happens. Just wrote them on the list to order for tomorrow.

You k now about the wine thing, it's also true that some people have very different metabolisms. My brother, quite literally, eats about 3500 calories per day.. (it's a whole pound!!) it's constant and non stop and mostly healthy foods too. The man is 5'11" and about 145 pounds. He actually eats tons to keep on weight - if he slacks he gets skinny. So if someone with a metabolism like that were to cut out even a small food, it might make them lose weight faster too. however - if someone like me ate that much daily for a week, the scale would register a seven pound gain ;)

Another OP day - WOW am I sore from all the exercise though. Made it through my deep water pilates class :swim: My boyfriend gave me the BEST backrub ever. It felt sooo good since I'm so sore.

Stayed OP food wise too :) - clocking in at 1250 - a bit under where I'm supposed to be (1400), but that's going to be just fine by the end of the week. Out of town this coming weekend, which will not be perfect in terms of calories.. plus I'll have to guestimate a lot. So it will equal out in the end.

Weighed .5 lb less on the y scale tonight! Whoohoo!! Of course, weighing at the end of the day, and right after dinner is an entirely different weight than the morning ones I keep track of - but .5 down is still .5 down.

On to another day! Goodnight my featherweight peeps!

AquaWarlock 04-12-2007 01:47 AM

Just finished watching the PBS film "FAT: What No One is Telling You" - I think it's a decent documentary about obesity and the notion of "fat", from people who talk about fat prejudice & encouraging self- and societal- acceptance of people in all their shapes to those who go through extreme measures to lose weight (one devotes three hours per day to exercise, another two went through bypass surgeries).

Personally, I think that they neglected the food industry aspect of it and the role they play -- it also makes bypass surgery seem a little "quick fixy", for better or for worse. (Sure there were a few minutes about them agonizing over their decision, but the basic premise is they got the bypass done, now they're less chubby! Also disappointed that there was no follow-up to see if they had made consistent activity & dietary changes following the surgery.)

But still, a good watch overall exploring a very complex and multi-faceted issue.

srmb60 04-12-2007 09:23 AM

Morning dears.

I had a pleasant surprise when I investigated my fitday this morning. Although my cals were a bit low yesterday, my percentages were very good.
41 protein,42 carbs and 17 fats. And I was not trying. Normally, I would have to struggle and scarf a shake or a can of tuna to make that up.

2frustrated 04-12-2007 09:58 AM

:high: Hooray for not trying too hard :D

srmb60 04-12-2007 10:48 AM

Oh if there's an easy way ... I'll find it. The best news I've heard all year is that naps are good fer ya!

alinnell 04-12-2007 11:08 AM

Warlock~I looked for that PBS special here and couldn't find it. I looked an entire week in advance on my digital cable. Maybe you get a different channel? I can't imagine that, though--we're awfully close in proximity. Anyway, thanks for the info on it.

YuppieGirl~it really sucks knowing someone who can just eat and eat and eat and not gain, huh? I used to have an employee like that--it was just depressing to see just how much he consumed!

AquaWarlock 04-12-2007 11:24 AM

Allison, in SoCal it should be KCET/KLCS(LA), KOCE (Orange County), KPBS (San Diego), KVCR (San Bernardino)

Everyone else, you can find out more about the program & where it's playing in your neck of the woods here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/takeonestep/fat/

They're re-airing it on April 14, 8 a.m., for the KCET station, at least.

canadian mom 04-12-2007 11:25 AM

My hubby is like that he snacks on junk all the time but he lays floors for a living si he burns a lot of cals during the day. When work is sloww you can see his belly grow. when i was 6 months pregnant with our son his tummy stuck out further than mine but as soon as work picked up again he lost it in less than a week :p

Did really well today i exercised a total of 165 mins. I took the babies for a walk after I did my normal routine while it is nice out. they are calling for a storm tonight.

Where is spring? Did someone forget to tell it it is time we are all waiting.

hikerchick 04-12-2007 11:41 AM

My husband has the hummingbird metabolism too. Though not as much as when he was a kid and more active.

However with me eating better at home he lost 25lbs overnight and is skinny again. And I still find snickers bars and potato chips in the car.

Well now that I got all excited and moved the ticker I am gong to have to wait another week before the scale stays there continually. It always does this so I am not worried.

ennay 04-12-2007 12:16 PM

blew off the gym today, ds was up from 1-5 am. and is now GRUMPY

YuppieGirlie 04-12-2007 02:04 PM

having another OP day - and my boyfriend is going to join me for aerobics tonight! YAY! Off to pack for the weekend :)

Sodiumlightbaby 04-12-2007 05:52 PM

Looks like many of us have husbands that can eat and not gain a thing, I do as well. It's frustrating and he is always asking me why we can't have any snack food in the house.

Yesterday started good and finished bad, I gave into the chocolate. Today, so far, so good but the day is not done. This time I have taken out my list of why I want to lose the weight, hopefully it will give me some incentive.

Are all my fellow Canadians having a snow storm on this fine April Spring day?? Hard to get motivated to lose weight for skimpy clothes when there iss 15 cm of snow on the ground!!!

Dana

YuppieGirlie 04-12-2007 06:39 PM

Hi Everyone,

Perfect OP day. Finished packing and doing laundry and now I'm off to water aerobics and then going dancing for a short time. Have a wonderful night all!:D

canadian mom 04-12-2007 06:46 PM

Yes it is hard to get motivated. we do not have it yet buwe are supposed to get 20 -30 cm.

3fcuser1058250 04-12-2007 07:07 PM

Hey Gang  ... Not too much snow here but cold, wet, rainy, dreary are a good description of what it's like out here...

Dh doesn't gain weight and is very slim but he still has to watch what he eats because his cholesterol is high, genetics in his case...

I've been super lazy these past few days, I haven't exercised since Sunday, must be the weather, well that's my excuse anyways  ....

3fcuser1058250 04-12-2007 07:18 PM

Warlock -- I watched that show last night too I really enjoyed it... I love watching any documentary related to weightloss/gai... I felt that the 18 year old would not keep it off even with the surgery... The comedian looked so good and I loved her outlook, it was more in tune with what I believe in...

greatchoice 04-12-2007 07:54 PM

Good afternoon everyone.

Just got up from some wonderful sleep :cloud9: I really needed it. I basically just got up walked on my treadmill, had dinner & I'll go back to sleep in about an hour! Making up for the sleep I didn't get yesterday.

Ennay-I don't get much sleep but it's not USUALLY because I have insomnia. It's my crazy work schedule and keeping up with going to my son's activities. Because I usually know the days I'm not going to get too much sleep I can plan my food out and spread it out through the long hours so that is probably different.

Warlock-thanks for the info on that TV show. Sounds good.

Allison-I am totally like you with the freezing (although I guess mine is not wine related). I'm always freezing and I've been checked for anemia, etc. and I'm healthy as a horse so go figure!

I've been doing much better with my eating this week. I pretty much always keep up with the exercising so if I just manage to reign my eating in I'm ok.

Hope everyone has a great day. Jane

srmb60 04-12-2007 08:49 PM

Well, Ilene ... you need to move closer to me and my neighbour Grace. I already walk/jogged today and did arms ... but Grace is just so sweet when she calls ... I went out again for an hour. I'm tired now.

YuppieGirlie 04-12-2007 11:10 PM

So I have some very bad news and some very good news.

The bad news: I ate a trough of french fries tonight, and a handful of hushpuppies. I didn't even really want them when I had them, even though I was hungry... and as I was eating them, kept telling myself to stop - which only happened when I hit the bottom. The other bad news, is that I'm having trouble identifying a trigger - this was not a bad day - I was feeling great, on plan (for multiple days in a row), I wasn't "celebrating" anything either.

The good news: I did not purge. I did not drink. I've exercised every single day this week for the first time in my life. And tomorrow is another day to be on plan. And I h ave all ya'll on my side.

 goodnight
