Still confused on Boca vs veggie burgers??

  • I've read that they are ok if they are 100% veggie or tofu but I've also seen that its ok if the are Vegan but does not contain wheat protein or gluten. I got the original vegan Boca burger but it does contain wheat protein. Is this ok or not? I just don't want to mess anything up! If it is ok, is there a limit to how many you have per day? The ones that I saw that looked like rice and veggies contained a lot more sodium than the boca burger.
  • I'm a vegetarian so I've been substituting vegetarian "meat" products for the 4 ounces of lean protein... servings in the meals. Understanding that the goal of that serving is to get protein, I've been looking for the most protein-packed fake meat I can come up with and the Morningstar Farms "steak" strips have the most protein of any of the vegetarian products out there. That's what I use in place of the meat in any of the meals.

For veggie burgers, I prefer the Morningstar Farms Garden Veggie Patties. They are two full vegetable servings per patty! That's what I use when the meal plan calls for a veggie burger.

There are a lot of different varieties of veggie burgers out there so you might have to look around and see which ones you like best. I don't particularly care for the Boca products myself. I think the Morningstar Farms ones cook up much better. I also really like the Quorn products, although some of them are breaded. They're made from quinoa, which is a grain (although it has a lot of protein).

    Hope that helps!
