Phase Questions

Hey everyone I have a few PHASE questions...First can you stay on phase 1 longer than 9 days, and if so how long at a time can you stay on it? Also are you supposed to go into Phase 4 if you still have a lot of weight to lose? (it kind of sounds like maintenance to me) Thanks!:D
