Hello. I am brand new to the board too. This is my first post. I am also from the Windy City! I need some motivation badly. I am planning on making "death by potatoes" otherwise known as latkes for Chanukah. I might make a baked version too and see how it goes.

Smushytushy - you made me giggle out loud with your username...! That's so cute!! :D
:wel3fc: Glad to see you here! Smushy, there are a ton of different discussion groups here, so I hope by now you've mingled in among some of them and introduced yourself to some folks. I tend to hang out a lot on the "Chicks Up for a Challenge" group because I like the mini-challenges there, but there are excellent groups all over the place. I, too, will be trying the baked latke recipe. My husband is not Jewish, but I am quite sure that there will be outcry at the fact that there will be NO frying... except for the blintzes, which I can't really imagine doing any other way (I'm sure there is one, I just don't know it). I told one of my Jewish buddies that I was doing the baked latke thing and got a reaction nothing short of outrage. He said "That's like using skim milk to make alfredo sauce!" Which I shouldn't be eating, either! Enough - all this food talk is making me crave naughty things... Robin - your husband's lost 20 lbs? That's great!! And SO unfair, he's not even trying! Are we up to five of us in here now? Yay! |
Welcome SmushyTushy - I love your name! Hey, if we get a few more members of the tribe here, we might have enough for a minyan. I've only been here since October, but can definitively say that this is a great site, with lots of information and lots of friendly, supportive people so just look around the various boards to see what interests you, and post away to get to know everyone.
Glad to have another Chicagoan here as well - are you a Cubs fan or a Sox fan? It is now just over 24 hours until the first candle of Chanukah - hope everyone's baked and/or fried latkes come out well. |
I am a Cubs fan. A born and bred north sider.
Happy Chanukah to one and all! |
Smushytushy - glad to find another (long-suffering) Cubs fan.
How did the first 3 days of Chanukah go for everyone? I would up not making the baked latkes, but restricted my intake to only one fried latke, so I feel like the weekend was a success. If anyone went the route of baked, I'd love to hear how they turned out. |
First three days, so far, so good. We only went crazy with the eating on the first day, which is fine - one day won't kill me!
WindyCityChick, I really did want to make the baked latke recipe. I had all the ingredients set out and everything... but after baleful looks from DH, I ended up caving in and frying them. Very tasty... and certainly not conducive to weight loss... but it's only once a year, and so I indulged him AND myself. :D |
I just found this thread. I hang out on the McSkinny's Loozing Floozies board, but just wanted to help you get to a minyan. Think we'll make it? I have been around these boards for quite a few years. Glad to see some fellow Jews around. Hope everybody made it through Hanukkah without too many sweets and latkes lingering on the butt and thighs!

Shalom Shelley! Well, we're not quite at a minyan yet, but we may get there yet. And thank goodness, Chanukah is over for another year! So many holidays are food-oriented, but for me, latkes are one of the toughest things to resist, so it's a relief to have them in the rear view mirror.
Hope everyone had a happy and safe NY celebration, and is looking forward to great things in 2007! |
One more nice Jewish girl in the pack! My Hebrew name is Sharona. It means "can't stop eating kasha varnishkas without force." LOL
|
Hi, Becca! Welcome! Always good to see another nice Jewish girl. :D
I see you're pretty new to 3FC - how do you like it so far? |
I'm Jewish and originally from Chicago, although now I'm living in Glasgow, Scotland!
:) |
Hi ladies!
My name is Michal and I live in Jerusalem (but originally I'm from Holland). I just joined this site and I want to lose some weight  |
Still Active?
Hi, is anyone still active here? I was so excited to see some Jewish people here...I'd love it if we could get this thread moving again.
Shalom. Lynn |
Hey all, I'm yet another nice Jewish girl, who goes to Brandeis to boot! :) I'm not particularly religious as I grew up in rural Georgia where I was lucky to go a day without being asked where my horns were, much less being able to go to temple! But the one thing that my mom did retain was Jewish cooking... and my cannonball matzo balls go RIGHT to my thighs.
I've slowly been learning more about Judaism just by osmosis at Brandeis and from my very culturally Jewish roommate. Her bubbeh sent her back from every holiday and vacation with Jewish food for me and I can only imagine the hand wringing that knowing I'd never had a real bagel brought to her family. :P |
I'm a Christian who loves the Jewish people!
I would love to keep in contact with all of you, if nobody minds. Sha-alu Shalom Yerushalayim! Diana |
