The Lord's Table

settingcaptivesfree.com

I know there are a couple of us out there doing this!! I signed up a long time ago, but really made the committment today. I'm starting option 1 eating program tomorrow, but have already done day 1's lesson. The lessons are amazing.

I thought it would be great to have a little group of those doing TLT! :carrot:

pacemomof4 07-03-2006 12:56 AM

Hello, I started the Lord's Table lessons, 1 wk ago. I really enjoy it. It is very informative and Christ centered. I am only doing the lessons though. I am not doing their eating plan. I am doing weight watchers and doing well with it. ww has taught me about portion control. On day 3, I think they teach about fasting, and I learned a lot about that. I have never fasted before, but after that study, I probably will. Anyway, good luck with it and God bless.

HoosierMom 07-17-2006 11:27 PM

i looked at the site and it looks great. Has anyone here done the eating plan? How did it go? Anyone completed phase 2 yet? i've fasted before. It was a 3 day fast. It was amazing. i really didn't feel hungry at all (that had to have been from God, since i'm always hungry).

i must say, this sure looks better than any diet out there.

In Christ,
christine

Lord's Table

Hello

I was wondering is anyone still doing this course? If so what do you think of it. If not why did you stop. I Was wondering if anyone was having any kind of odd feelings about it.

I would really appreciate opinions about it.

Thanks

Big House 07-25-2006 11:24 AM

I am looking into this course! any input into it would be great!

HoosierMom 07-25-2006 04:41 PM

It seems we're all looking into it and wanting to try it, but nobody who's doing it or has done it is around to tell us about it. :)

After much searching and praying, i think i've decided to give it a try. Even if i don't lose any weight, if it helps me to repent of my laziness and glutony, that's wonderful. i'll let you know how it goes. :)

In Christ,
christine

pacemomof4 07-25-2006 06:27 PM

Hey, I am still doing the course. I am on day 27 and the course seems to helping me. It is biblical and Christ centered. The course points out so many bible verses and it helps you look into problems with emotional eating and so forth. I am not doing the eating plan, I am on ww and I doing well with that. This course is helping me spiritually. I hope my opinion helps. God bless you.

CIRCLES 07-25-2006 07:09 PM

Hello All

I have been trying the course, only got as far as day three.

I am not trying to step on any toes, and believe me I don't have all the answers and far as the Bible or anything else. As a matter of fact I am a new Christian. I do know that you have to be careful as far as false teachers go. Again i'm not trying to say this course is teaching anything false either. It's just something I feel deep down in my spirit, that is why I asked the question about anyone feeling anything odd about the course. And please if anyone could shed some light I would be happy to listen. As I mentioned I am a Babe in Christ and I am more than willing to listen and learn. Any input would be appreciated. Please do keep in mind I am only looking to learn and not trying to be judgemental.

HoosierMom 07-25-2006 07:50 PM

Was there something in particular that didn't seem right to you?

In Christ,
christine

CIRCLES 07-26-2006 04:08 PM

Hi

I have thought about what it is that bothers alot, this is what it seems to be to me....... I know it is a Bible based course and with that being the case of course the Bible is what should be discussed but........ it seems a bit "fanatical" for lack of a better word. As I mentioned I am a new Christian and I have never done any type of Bible based course before. I imagine this could be rhe reason I fell this way it is all so new for me. Maybe it's too much too soon I don't know. If anyone could shed some light or point me in the right direction I will not take offense. I know I have two desires

1. To build my realtionship with the Lord
2. To loose weight

So being that this course combined both I thought it would be ideal.

Thank you

Hi! I am new here and just getting started. I looked into the bible study....thanks for the link....and it looks good. Think I'll give it a try.

Circles: Being a new Christian you are probly just not used to bible studies. Just give it a few more days and see how it goes, probly not a good idea to do the fasting plan at this point, but the scriptures and self examiniation could only help. My personal opinion is that you have to just jump right in, easing into things just makes it harder in the long run. Jump in and you'll find the water is not so bad once you adjust =)

I haven't read The Lord's Table, so I can't comment on it, but I have been looking for Christian materials on weight loss and health, and am trying to find a good grace-based program that is positive and nurturing (and would love info about the program if it fits).

I don't know what concerns Circles has, but in my searcy, I did reject the Weigh Down program because of the founder's heretical beliefs (denying the trinity, for example), and teachings that only those who can live a perfect life (including their food plan) will be saved.

I also rejected another program, (can't remember the title, but I found it in the library and it was at lest fifteen years old) because the book was extremely blame-focused. I need help changing life which included learning to put Christ first in my life always, and to recognize and change sinful behavior patterns (including my relationship with food and my body) but it really doesn't help me to be emotionally battered with statements of how evil I am for having failed in the past.

Big House 07-30-2006 12:46 PM

I am going to try it as soon as I getr back from camp.
Please pray fo rme this week as I am going to teen camp (as a counselor)and the food is served to you. I have been going for the last several years but this time I have a plan I am going to bring 2 bags of fruit and eat a piece of fruit before each meal then I will not eat so much of the fatty food and will not be starving!!
Anyway check in when I get back off to church now

Zoe 07-31-2006 10:00 AM

Hello everyone....

I checked out the site and joined in. I am starting today and hoping that I will stick it out. I have been so "non dieting" the last few months and I think this may be the one program that helps me.

HoosierMom 08-03-2006 09:37 AM

i signed up for The Lord's Table a few days ago and so far i'm loving it. i think probably the best thing i've learned is the difference between physical hunger and soul hunger. Now i only eat when i'm truly hungry and i go to God all those other times when i've got the "munchies".

i tried the option one eating plan (half days, liquid days, normal days, and fast days) but didn't stick with it. i spent way too much time thinking about food. So i switched to option two which is eating only after your tummy growls. It's working great. i've lost 4 pounds so far. :D But most importantly, i'm learning to lean on God to help me overcome my bad eating habits.

In Christ,
christine

Hi,

I'm so new to this forum that I'm not sure this response is going to get out here. Lol. I went to the website that you were talking about and it looked really interesting to me. I tried to enroll but I think my pop-up blocker messed up the enrollment because it never went to a different page after I filled out the page and pushed enter or whatever. Grrrr. I think it sounds wonderful and I'd love to be a part of a group that wants to do it. I have quite a bit of adipose to shed... :tread: but I think this support forum will really help. It's nice meeting you and as soon as I can figure out what I did wrong on that site and can fix it I'll join ya...
Sarah~

Hi everyone!

I'm brand new here and stumbled across this thread. I haven't heard anything about this plan but I'm going to check it out. I did try the Weigh Down plan several years ago but as the views of the author came to light my church banned it and I stopped ~ what I did like about it was that I was working on recognizing that my HUNGER for food was most often HUNGER for God and I would love to get back into another biblically based program. I hope to be sticking around this thread and getting to know you all ~ I guess I better weigh myself tomorrow and get going instead of lurking here.

Thanks!
Steph

I'm baaaaaaaaack!
I went on and started the Lord's table. It's amazing! I didn't realize how often I eat when I'm all emotional. I think there's hidden things down in that heart 'o' mine that I need to deal with. Anyway, I tried the fast thing and I'm really watching what and when and why and how I eat. I'll weigh in on next Mon. to see if there are any great results.
Take care!

I'm new to the forum as well and have never heard of this one...I have seen Weigh Down and wasn't thrilled with it myself. Thanks for the idea ladies...I'm going to check this one out.

JennyL 11-02-2006 10:17 AM

Circles,

I'm jumping in here a little late, but I found your question interesting. I have done TLT a few times, or I should say started it. I almost made it through to the end once, and I did lose weight and felt closer to the Lord than I had in a long time. But I also had those same feelings of not being completely comfortable with it...and I couldn't quite put my finger on why. I don't believe it's heretical in any way...I found it through another site which is a Christian apologetics website and very Biblically sound. However, after much consideration I tend to think that they stray into being fairly legalistic with it...even though they say "grace, grace, grace". I found myself feeling very condemned a lot of the time...if I ate one bite more than I need I'm sinning, etc. Now, I can't say this is the study's fault. More than likely it was my own and where I was in the journey, but I can say as one who's been there, and from a non-babe Christian ;) that I felt those same misgivings.

In His Hands,
Jenny

Well, I've joined up and just done day one... we shall see! Not sure quite what I think of it yet, but will post back as it unfolds!

gentleduv47 11-04-2006 01:06 PM

I just joined this forum, and now I have joined the Lord's Table also. After the first lesson, I am impressed. I probably will not do their calendar, I am on Weight Watchers and it seems to be working. I want to learn how to deal with the 'me' who wants me to fail in any program I am in.

Michelle77 02-04-2010 08:30 AM

Hey everyone, New to this forum and stumbled on it when searching for the Lords Table diet site. I purchased a book called "Women of Moderation" which is based on "The Lords Table" and encourage you to continue on with the Lords table after the 8 weeks are complete in the book. Since I failed at all other diets, I felt I needed the help of God, therefore after some praying I came across Women of Moderation. I'm all about quantity and there lays my problem. I haven't checked out the Lords table, but it sounds very much like the Women of Moderation. Good luck to all of you!

2tiggers 02-05-2010 08:47 AM

Good morning. The Lord's Table is an amazing bible study that is teaching me about God, gluttony, repentance, and more. I am following a separate food plan, but the daily lessons are exceptional and helps me to journal more effectively. I am learning about self-discipline, gluttony, accountability, and who I am in Christ. My mentor is wonderful and sends encouraging words and scripture often.

I highly recommend this program. I sure don't feel anything odd about it, at this time in my life. I've been contemplating this program for 5 years, and held back because I thought it was just too much. I think that now, I am ready for the seriousness of being a Christian worman and the seriousness of being addicted to food. I've completed 15 lessons so far. One of the things my mentor told me was that I really need to take my time because this is a journey. If I miss a day, I don't need to 'catch up' -- just pick up and move on.

I'm ready to make changes in my life. Finally. With God's grace and mercy and help. The Lord will sustain me. He will fill me, satisfy me, and complete me. I'll be praying for all of you.

Blessings,

ingrid55 02-05-2010 08:48 PM

I have never heard of the Lord's table either but if it is Bible based..i can do all through christ who strengthens me..i hope to lose 60 lbs and this can only be done by His grace and mercy

Bootsie 10-31-2010 12:12 PM

I am so interested in how you ladies are doing today. Are you still with the Lord's Table and where are you in your weight and just not your weight but how has God worked in your life. This thread was started in 2006.

SuzzeeeQ2011 01-09-2011 10:28 AM

Just started TLT a couple of days ago, and thought I'd search on the internet for a message board, and here it is!

It is so wonderful to be freed from this problem of overeating by leaning on the Lord!

Hopefully, this thread is somewhat active :)

SuzzeeeQ2011 01-09-2011 05:16 PM

Ok...NOT somewhat active :o

SuzzeeeQ2011 01-13-2011 08:33 AM

Still doing TLT. Am skipping the fasting. Wayy too many issues with food to do this at this time.

joyful retiree 01-22-2011 08:01 AM

SuzzeeeQ,

Sorry you didn't get any responses to your post. I don't post here much & I am not familiar with TLT, but after years of yo-yo dieting & trying to do it myself, I finally lost weight & have maintained the loss for a year because I finally did what was needful & just turned the whole thing over to the Lord. He always keeps His promises & praying to be taught how to be a good steward of my body is praying in His Will, and as He always does, He answered my prayer far beyond anything I could have imagined. My relationship with God has grown in ways I could never have believed. No matter what you face, He has already covered it with His Grace. We are so blest to be His children & I know He is moving lovingly & powerfully in your life, as He does in the lives of all His children.

superchick36 10-30-2011 08:18 PM

I know it has been a really long time since any new post, just wondering if anyone is still doing TLT? I am thinking about buying the book to do at home and would love support from others doing it too.

Hope to hear from some of you.
Amy

Justwant2Bhealthy 10-31-2011 12:53 PM

AMY ~ if I remember correctly, I think you can also go to their online site and get some more support there ... @

www.settingcaptivesfree.com

superchick36 10-31-2011 02:46 PM

Thanks for the reply. I will do that before buying the book.

Justwant2Bhealthy 10-31-2011 03:19 PM

Your welcome -- and you can see a basic outline of their plan on the site; and I think you can join a study group as well. Not sure if it is free -- but the first part may be ... :D

linoleum 11-15-2011 01:27 AM

I have actually started this plan again today. I am doing the Option 1 eating plan. It honestly is less about "losing weight" and more about the self-control (only with God's help of course) and the meditation and building a relationship with God. I'm glad somebody else is doing it. I hope you have not abandoned the forum already.
