First Place Bible Study
I was wondering if anyone here was doing the First Place Bible Studies? I just started the "Everyday Victory for Everyday People". I am really enjoying it. I was also wondering if anyone was using the first place eating program. I have tried it once before and i've decided that I need to get back to it...I really feel great on it, I wish I would have stuck with it the first time, I lost 5 pounds my first two weeks, but I kindof quit after that.
|
I have never heard of that book or program, Maybe tell me more about it .
|
I am getting out my first place books today and going to give it a try. So how is the eatting plan going for you?
Bev |
I joined First Place at my church a year ago. I have since lost 45 pounds. :)
I use it for the support of the group and the accountability. We are going to be using the book Making Wise Choices. The food plan is very basic and similar to a well balanced diet. Good luck! |
It's a good program
I have 3 or 4 of the Bible Studies from First Place, plus the book First Place which tells all about the program and also their devotional book.
If you are doing the Everyday People study - I will get mine out and start it up again with you. Always nice to have someone to do it with. |
Week 1 Day 1 of Everyday Victory for Everyday People
Thought the following from the beginning of this study was good to share. So here it is:
God understands your struggles. He also understand your potential. As God directs your life, he command you to take steps of obedience. nitially, you may wonder if you can do what God commands. If self-disciplined is required, many become concerned. Is God being reasonable? Canyou do what He has asked you to do? Write out the command contained in Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer you bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your s piritual act of worship. Any comments |
My church doesn't have a weight loss program. I am trying to read the Bible more, I go to my church's Bible study class for young people my age. I have drastically reduced the amount of calories I eat. I am also trying not to eat at night. I went to nights without eating at night. I think if I can cut out my bad habit of eating at night for 2 weeks, then the habit will be gone.
|
Good morning!
I'm a new oldie here. ;) I haven't posted for a while. I have done about four of the first place studies and I really, really liked them. They really helped me come to grips w/some of my weight related issues. I didn't follow the eating plan, though-I was doing weight watchers. I'm no longer doing weight watchers either. I'm basically just cutting out sugar, eating more fruits and veggies and watching fats and carbs and praying, praying, praying and reading the Word. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life counting points and exchanging foods. I have several friends who have lost weight w/the first place eating plan but it isn't for me.
Right now, I'm reading the book the maker's diet. That's pretty much what my diet is right now-eating things that are only God made and not man made. It's an interesting book and it's a plan I can implement and follow w/little or no trouble. We've also started buying organic and/or all natural products. According to the maker's diet-if you can't pronounce the ingredients, then you shouldn't eat it. We live in a small town so we're implementing what we can and praying about the rest. We have a place to get raw milk and growth hormone and anitbiotic free chicken and beef. We've recently bought a freezer so we can stock up on these things. It's not a perfect system but as I said, we're implementing what we can where we can. I try to exercise everyday except Sunday-unless you count driving the church van as exercise!:) Well, that's my .02 on the first place. I pray this day finds you all doing well and succeeding through the power and grace of our Lord. Forgot to comment on this: If self-disciplined is required, many become concerned. Is God being reasonable? Canyou do what He has asked you to do? Write out the command contained in Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer you bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your s piritual act of worship. God has really been working on my lack of self-discipline of late. I have finally accepted that my weight battle will be lifelong-I'm always going to have to exercise and I'm always going to have to be careful w/my food intake. I have recently repented of my lack of discipline and asked God to make me more Christ like in that area. After all, who has more self-discipline than Christ? His self-discipline and obedience to his Heavenly Father lead him to death. I'm praying God will lead my slothfulness to death and replace it w/self-discipline. I know I have failed at giving my life as a living sacrifice many times. I get sidetracked and burdened and attacked and turn to food for comfort instead of turning to God. But, by the grace of God, I'm striving to be more self-disciplined and present myself as a holy and acceptable life to God. sorry so long winded-I'll blame it on the fact that I'm a PK and I know how to preach it! :) |
Hello,
I'm new here...just joined the other day. today is my first day to even post... but I'm not new to First Place. I have done it off and on for years... I've lead a group at my church for over 3 years. We are taking a break right now... I am currently doing the newest study- choosing thankfulness... I have found it's a great program- but I have to be committed to ALL 9 of the commitments! Reba |
I'm on week three of "everyday victory" I really love this study, I think it is one of my favorites.
|
Hey Guys, I just tried this recipe tonight. Really really good.
Ranch-Style Chicken “Fingers” Exchanges: 3 meats, 2 breads, 2 vegetables, 1 fat (exchanges include side salad) Ingredients Vegetable cooking spray 2 cups cornflake crumbs 1 teaspoon dry leaf basil 3/4 cup reduced-fat buttermilk ranch salad dressing 1 pound skinless, boneless, chicken breast, cut into thin strips 2 cups (i used seven of the pre cut frozen chicken breast) Directions Preheat oven to 425. Lightly spay a 9x13 baking dish. In a shallow dish combine the cornflakes and basil. Place the salad dressing in a medium bowl with the chicken strips. Remove the strips, one at a time, and roll in the crumb mixture to coat. Arrange strips on the prepared pan and coat lightly with the cooking spray. Cook for 12-15 minutes or until the chicken is no longer pink. Serves 4. Serve with 2 cups salad and reduced-fat salad dressing. |
We have had the First Place Bible Study going at our church for several years. Quite a few women lost an enormous amount of weight. However, most of them after finishing the study went back to their original weight. It uses the glycemic index the same diet that is used for diabetics. The only problem is, it is only a quick fix if you don't maintain the diet and exercise plan. As with any diet and exercise plan, your body will adjust to it and you will start to plateau. It is necessary to change up your exercise program and continue to eat a variety of low fat, low sugar, healthy meals in order to maintain your goal weight for life. A lifelong change is the only program that will work long term.

My interest is piqued about the First Place Bible study. Who wrote/published it? Where can I find it? What is the basic premise? Is it similar to Weigh Down?

First Place
I just started doing a first place Bible Study. I would love to be apart of this group. What lesson are you on in Everyday Victory study? Can I join this group?
|
I finished with week one Everyday Victory. I was challenged by the memory verse. Deut. 30:11. Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach.
We were asked to read and commit to Rom:12:1 When you choose to submit to God and present your body as a living sacrifice, you obey God's command. Be assured that God will never command you to do something impossible. Deut. 30:11 I decided to listen to the CD and ride my stationary bicyle as I sing along and learn verses. I am able to pedal through 3 songs. I hope to be able to do the whole CD. I will weigh in on Wed. |
Thief
I am really enjoying my Bible Study and prayer time. Today was so touching and I felt the presence of God mightly. As I was looking up and reading the verse in John 10:10, I realized what I have been doing for years. I have given the devil a foothold in my life through eating that has become a stronghold. Yes, the thief desires to destroy my health, my self-esteem, and peace. I can let him be a robber, or I can call on the one that is in me, my God. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. 2 Timothy 4:18 says," Who will rescue me from every evil attack and bring me safely through this trial. Oh, why do I forget that I can not fight this battle alone. I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.
Psalm 27:1-2 The Lord is my light and my salvation (deliverer). The Lord is the stronghold of my life. I pray that as I let Him be the light of my eating, the deliverer of fleshly desires, that He truly will be the only stronghold of my life. |
Hi Reba! I sure do hope you still around . I was so excited about seeing you here. Those of you that don't know Reba and I know each other from the Outlook ministry on line, which is the old First Place on line. I had lost 90 pounds the first time I joined First Place and now I have trouble loosing 1 pound. Which is my own fault, as with any thing you got to work hard and let God do his part, well I did not do my part, that is the main reason I have been failing to loose weight. It is so good to see you Reba missed you and the girls so much! With my Christian Love Nita/TX Nita Ann

The Word of God and Prayer
Today is a new day. Indeed, the Lord is my strength and my song. I am truly enjoying the Bible Study. I find that as I sit at the feet of Jesus that I am beginning to enter into a new rest for my soul.
I am slowly losing weight, but most of all the heavy burden of it all has been lifted. I realize that I have been filling my life with pleasures that only last for a moment. Yes, the hot fudge Sunday that I try to drown the cares of life and find that it does not bring satisfaction. As I sang the song this morning, Open the eyes of my heart, I want to see you; to see you high and lifted it up in my life. Oh, how I want to love Him more and love others like He does. You know He gave His all for me and my hearts desire is to give my all to Him. As I was reading the scripture verse yesterday in Matt. 16:24; Deny yourselves, take up the cross, and follow me. I truly need to die to the areas of flesh in my life that wants to rule. At any rate, my heart is being stirred with the goodness and love of my Lord. |
Hi Msgal, I am curious what First Place Bible Study are you on?
|
Victory for Everyday People
I am on week 4 of Everyday Victory for Everyday People. I am loving the study. I also wrote out all the Bible verses on recipe cards, punched a hole in left hand corner and tied a pretty ribbon. I take the memory card list in the car and purse. I always have it to refresh when I have a few minutes. Oh, there is victory when we invite Jesus to enter our eating habits. We can over-come when we use the Word and prayer.
|
That is great! I have done that Bible Study have it some where and it is a great study. Do you do the Wellness Work sheets in the back, their great to do? I love Living in Grace! Not only does it bring us closer to the Lord but it goes over all the fats etc.... explains the diet really good, in the back.

I love today's study in Living in Grace....In First Place
As you know, freedom does not come without opposition. there will be days when you feel insecure and defeated. fear, doubt, unbelief and temptation will continue to try to gain a foothold. When you feel these things, know that you are literally in the midst of a battle for your freedom. Allow the Holy Spirit to rise up within you and say NO to the enemy. Don't give up - and don't ignore these attacks. Stand your ground and take action, using the full Armor of God to defeat the enemy( see Ephesians 6: 10-18) On the road to weight loss and healthy living there will be ups and downs, but the difference when your walking with the Lord is the valleys aren't as deep ,as when you walked alone. Now, by the grace of God, when you stumble or feel weary and wounded, you don't have to give up. Instead you can simply run back into the arms of Jesus. One of the ways to do this is to open His Word and seek His comfort and direction. I loved the Armor of God: helmet - is salvation, protects your mind Shield- faith Sword - word of God Shoes -peace breastplate - righteous belt-of truth |
Hello! I am going to an orientation for First Place 4 Health on Dec. 10, and I'll be starting the program after the first of the year. I attended one of their events about 3 hours from me a couple weekends ago, and it was so inspiring! Looking forward to getting started and possibly posting with you.
|
That is great Tammy! Karen contacted me this morning to be a Leader on the Outlook Ministry which is First Place on line but the new First Place 4/health I will be with this time, so maybe we can learn together! You have been so blessed being able to go to one of their events, I have always wanted too. Someday if that is what God has instore for me will go to one. Wish you were closer to me would love to be in your group!
|
I also would love to attend one of their workshops. However, I am still enjoying my Everyday Victory Study. God is changing me as He is changing my eating habits. It is slow, but exciting. I have not been doing the CR reports in the back, but I am doing the suggested eating program. I bought a yearly book that has more space to write daily. I also record my eating journal on sparkspeople. com everyday. It is a free website that has much to offer in healthy eating. They also have a group that is accountable to 5 veg, and fruit a day plus 8 glasses of water. At any rate, it is a wonderful tool as well as First Place. I do love the First Place that is balanced spirit, soul, and body. i am doing my Bible memory which is a first for me.
|
I turn in my CR every night to my husband and that helps me from cheating on my diet and my friend sends me her menu that keeps her from cheating. It really helps to write down everything [even though little bites tasting the food to see if it taste right before you serve it] and give it to someone and ask that person to tell you even if you don't want to here it what you should of eaten. Example: my husband told me to get off the spaghetti I was eating to much of it, find something with less calories. I did not want to hear that but he was right and I love him so much for caring about me.
|
Are you on the older version diet Msgal or the 4/health diet?
|
Nita Ann, one of the women that I sat with that Saturday was involved with the Outlook Ministry.
The two main speakers for the event were Vicki Heath and Erin DuBroc. They were wonderful! I was pretty much sold on the program just from reading the book I picked up at a discount bookstore that caused me to do some research online. After talking to the women around me and listening to Vicki and Erin, it was a definite sell! I pray that I am able to do what all is needed to do well with the program. My husband passed away in July, so things are a bit out of balance right now. Our son is in college, and he plans to move home for 2nd semester. His dad's death affected him more than he was letting me know. He will be commuting 2 or 3 days a week to the same school, about an hour away. I'll stop rambling now. Looking forward to posting more when I understand the program! I have the kit, and I was advised to go ahead and start reading the member's guide and the one about healthy living. The leader that I talked to also told me to go ahead and start writing down the foods that I eat to get the habit started. |
Oh Tammy I am so excited! I know just about all the ladies in the Outlookministry except the new ones. Can you remember her name? I have been wanting to meet all my friends so much. Have you ever visited the outlookministry.net community, if not please do! You can read, but can't respond unless your a member and we have our Bible studies behind a password. I have made some wonderful friends on there from all over the world. One friend I made on there is giving me her material so I can be a Leader! Now that is more than a friend she is my Angel! I am so excited!
I know that your going to enjoy First Place. If you have a problem with the program , I will help you out with an answer or contact one of my friends and see if they know the answer if I don't. Tammy my heart cries for your loss . I know that it would be hard for me if I did not have Jesus in my life, if I lost my husband. I am so worried about him , he weighs over 325 and he eats everything in sight. I love him so much and I keep telling him he has to live till he is 103 because I plan to live till I am 100 and then we can go together on our journey, but don't think he is listening. Children are so special, and your son sounds like a very special young man. I never get to see my daughter and grandchildren, I wish we lived closer. I am praying they come here for Christmas and I get to go to Marfa Texas to watch the kids show their animals in January. |
Nita Ann, sorry I am so slow in responding. I can't remember the name of the person who I sat beside. I know she was from a small town in northern Ohio, and that's all I remember. Does it cost to belong to the Outlook Ministry? I'll have to check out the site. I hope your hubby comes around and listens to you. Being without mine has been very difficult, and I know with Christmas just around the corner it will get tougher. How far is your daughter from you?
|
Yes it cost 20.00 dollars before the deadline now if you join it would cost 25.00 but they will have another one opened each month if you wanted to join next month and do it now it would cost 20.00. Do you have the 4/health or the Old First place kit? Both groups are great and have great Leaders. Contact:
513-255-2724 Karen Rhodus, Founder of Outlook Ministry Est.2001 Tell her Nita/TX I sent ya! She knows this crazy Texan very well. But if you like you can check it out first at www.outlookministry.net if you don't have the 4/health they also have the First place group called the ABC Girls great group! They study the older First Place Books and have some great Leaders! |
I have the First Place for Health. If I go to meetings do I still do the Outlook Ministry? I guess I'm confused. I'm confused a lot anymore. Does it cost $20 each month?
|
Oh no, you don't need to do the outlook ministry too. That is great if you found a First place group! There is not one around here. I don't know if they even charge if you go to the meetings will just have to contact them and see. I know the one that was here did not charge anything.
|
There is a group near me that is starting after the first of the year. I am going to an orientation meeting next Wednesday night. I'll have to stay in touch with you about how things are going.
|
I was looking at Outlook for their program. I am a little confused that they use the same 3 books every quarter. And what exactly do you need to buy? the 3 books AND the new members kit? or do you just need the 3 books? I have discussed it with my husband and I think I may do this in Jan.
|
For 4Health First Place they want to sell you the whole kit, which I could not afford and just about the best friend I ever had gave me hers. Some find the new First Place diet not right for them especially if their diabetic, the old First place is a diebetic like diet, and they call themselves the ABC Group. The reason that there is not many Bible Studies in the 4 health group is because it has just started up, there will be soon be several, just give em time. My material is at the post office now and I will be picking it up in the morning.

Old version of First Place Bible Study
Hello,
stumbled onto your site and joined. Wondering if anyone may have any "unused" - not written on bible study packets for the original bible studies that First Place had many years ago. Currently leading one of their new studies - First Place 4 Health "Beginning with Christ" which was formerly called "Giving Chrisst First Place". As a returning member of First Place I am very happy with their program but not with their new format with the studies, so looking to do older versions if I can find them.. Please respond if anyone knows where I can find these. Thanks - Blessings always, :book2: Teri |
Hello Teri,
That is great you have become a leader teaching First Place . It takes a special person to teach and let God work through them to others. Or you teaching on line or private? Or you going by the old diet version or the new version. I found the older one so much easier. How many is in your group? How long you been teaching? I just loved the book you are studying Giving Christ First Place. That is the Bible study that really brought me closer to him. in fact I did it 3 times!I will pray for you and your group, just be God's work in progress! |
