Default CHRIST Came To Serve ~ Mid-Week Boost

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Philippians 2:5 - 8

Christ is our example of:

Humility, Servanthood and Love

Christ is indeed our example of humility, servanthood and love – as the scripture tells us.

Society, however, is built on becoming number one – from sports and education to jobs. Christ, who was the true eternal God, could have been number one at everything.
Instead, He willingly chose to empty Himself, take humanness into His being, and as the God/Man to be last - a humble slave going to the cross of Calvary on our behalf undergoing the punishment of our sins, namely physical death and **** – for us and our salvation.

Christ chose to serve rather than be served

But He is so much more than our example – He strengthens and empowers us to live a life of servanthood as well. As we worship in church on Sundays, or read the Bible at home with our families, we stay in Word and Sacrament and live as sinful yet forgiven people through God’s grace.

His Holy Spirit fills us with His love, strength and humility - restoring our relationship with God.

Now as humble Christians we can find a deeper purpose and meaning in life, not simply striving to "be number 1" but striving to use the gifts God has given us to the best of our ability by helping and serving others.

It is Ok to strive to be the best at whatever it is you are doing, but whatever it is, and weather you are number 1 or 100, as a Christian, use your gifts and accomplishments responsibly in service to others. Pastor mentioned Bill Gates in his sermon this weekend - he created wealth almost beyond imagination -and is now using that gift helping others giving away billions of dollars.

Be creative!
Look around and seek out opportunities to help and support people in your community, church, school or workplace.

It is our responsibility to use the gifts God has given us in service right where we are!

As we prepare for Holy Week: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, take time to reflect on how Christ came to serve and forgive us, and how we can respond to that gift of service and forgiveness right here, right now using the gifts He has given us.

I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13
